The freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus johnstoni), also known as the Australian freshwater crocodile, Johnston's crocodile or colloquially as freshie, is a species of reptile endemic to Australia. Found in the northern regions of Australia, it is much smaller than the other Australian species, the saltwater crocodile, which is responsible for attacks on people.
hahaha, good times on facebook xDDD My friend wanted to know what a 'freshie' was, so I told her LOL

Sighing, Layla’s blue eyes absorbed the dismal appearance of the weather out of doors. It was a rather dreary day, which was fitting for the current month. The school had finally entered December but to Layla’s dismay the grounds were yet to meet with the light dusting of snow. Beauxbatons was truly one of the most beautiful places in the world. The grounds were perfectly landscaped and the castle was well constructed, sitting on a nice patch of spacious land. There was a glistening lake and a grand forest which stretched for miles. The school itself was basically the epitome of elegance. Regardless of the season, the school took on a rustic beauty which was tempting to the eyes. In the fall cracked leaves of golden and deep red hues scattered the ground. The deep brown bark of the trees gaze the school a warm feel despite the chilly air that settled around the students and classrooms. Summer brought brilliant flashed of light, turning every bright green and blue. Spring caused soft pastel hues as the elegant gardens of the school awoke from their long slumber. Winter was Layla’s favorite season at the school though. It was her favorite season anywhere. It was wretched if there was no snow, since the castle just looked extremely grey and dull. But once that first fall came, the castle took on an icy beauty fit for a queen. The brilliant white snow made everything look crisp and fresh. It was breathtaking. At her family’s home in Hertfordshire, Layla was met with the same evocative emotions. She simply adored the way the snow fell over the grounds, causing the entire home to have an air of stillness and freshness to it. The grounds went virtually undisturbed since the family much preferred the indoors over the outdoors. With the exception of Layla of course. She adored being out of doors, especially under the light of the moon. She just couldn’t tolerate great amounts of sunlight. It was too… ugh, she just couldn’t stand it.
If that wasn’t stereotypical Vampire, then Layla didn’t know what was. Technically, she had long hated the sunlight. Even when she was little she much preferred going out to play on a cloudy day than a sunny one. The only time she could tolerate the sunshine was when she was extremely tired and she went to lie outside in the grass. The rays of the sunshine bathed her in warmth and nestled her into a deep relaxing sleep. She was frequently known for taking naps out of doors on summer afternoons when she was a child. Give her a book and a blanket and you wouldn’t see her until sundown. Her parents hadn’t exactly minded it and her mother often joined her outside. This would cause Jensen to come looking for the pair, curious to see where they had disappeared to. Then came Christopher, their father. He would join his wife and children as well and the four would lie out in the sun, sleeping and talking. The only one that would never join them was Michele. She would much rather sit inside and talk on the phone to her muggle friends and whatnot. She’d whine about not being able to stay with them in London. The Jameson’s had two homes, which were necessary for Christopher’s profession. As an ambassador to the muggles, he had to make an appearance in the muggle world now and then. They possessed a townhouse like home in London, which was used for hosting muggle parties and socializing with the neighboring families when the Jameson children were younger. Michele had a great deal of friends and Jensen had one or two that he didn’t mind hanging around with. They were all muggle children and the Jameson’s were good at concealing the other part of their lives, the magical part. Layla hated having to pretend that she was something other than a witch. She didn’t see the big deal about being different. But it was important to her family, and her civilization, that the muggles not know about magic. Very few of the muggles whom the Jameson’s entertained knew about the family being magical. The rest of the guests and acquaintances were simply there because of formal political relations. They knew Layla’s father was involved, they just didn’t quite know how.
After Michele and Jensen reached the age of Beauxbatons, Layla convinced her parents to move back to the Hertfordshire home, which was usually only used for seasonal vacations. It was the little girl’s haven. She simply adored the place. They had to spend occasional bouts of time in the London home, but they didn’t have to stay as frequently as before. It wasn’t until after Layla’s mother’s death in London that the family permanently moved to the Hertfordshire establishment. They had less of a need for social engagements since her father decided to spend most of his time in the nitty gritty work of his career and less in the socializing department. The family became extremely secluded. Layla was only just beginning to convince her father to host parties and gatherings, or at least small parties of friends, at the house. Regardless, most of Layla’s actual family still ignored her. Yes, her. Not them. Her father’s side of the family felt that she was tainted blood. She was the only Vampire in the history of the Jameson clan. Yes, her mother’s side was technically part Veela with some Seer mixed in there but those were much more respected blood types than Vampire. Vampire was pretty much the dirtiest of all dirty in the Jameson’s eyes. The only thing worse would have been if Layla came home a filthy mutt, aka Vampire. They were a twisted, egotistical bunch those Jameson’s. And after they had tried to kill her over one Christmas break with a stake to the heart in the middle of the night, Layla pretty much cut all ties. Her mother’s side hated her for a much different reason. She was basically the cause of her mother’s death. If she had never called her out of bed in the middle of the night to come get her, then Lauren would have still been alive. Layla had never been forgiven and her mother’s side absolutely refused to acknowledge her. Every now and then she ran into a cousin, but they rarely stuck around for more than a hello and goodbye. A few of her cousins even went to the school.
Shoving herself away from her dormitory window, Layla grabbed her notebook and Divination textbook off her desk and clutched them close to her chest. She was dressed for comfort today, sporting an old sweatshirt and a pair of jeans with sneakers. Her dark brown hair fell in gentle waves, framing her face. Her bright blue eyes shone naturally and her cheeks were paled from her usual Vampire pallor. She tucked a loose strand behind her ear as she left the dorm room, heading down the tower stairs and down the familiar halls towards the school’s library. Once inside she found her usual table, dumping her books onto the surface and setting off to find some more materials. It didn’t take long for her to discover a novel which interested her, and pretty soon she found herself wandering back to her table with the novel propped open in her hands. She neglected her surroundings, something she was frequently scolded for from her Vampire mentors. A Vampire should never let their guard down, though it wasn’t like Layla was going to get attacked on a regular basis at Beauxbatons. It was the fact that she wanted to eventually join Malachi’s coven, that was the worrisome fact. If she wanted to be a part of his coven, there was no way she could space out like that. She had to always be aware of her senses, always be on the high alert. That was going to take some practice. Suddenly, mid sentence, the brunette felt herself hit into something much more delicate than herself. She looked up, astonished that she had actually collided with something, or rather someone. A petite blonde girl sat settled on the ground, looking just as surprised as Layla imagined she did. She looked vaguely familiar, though Layla wasn’t quite sure what she knew the girl from. The two made eye contact and a sudden recognition filled the younger girls eyes, illuminating her expression.
“Layla?” She asked, her expression incredulous. Layla frowned slightly, confusion tinting her bright blue eyes. “Layla!” The girl exclaimed, scrambling off the floor and throwing herself at Layla. Layla wavered slightly, taking a step back and awkwardly embracing the girl as well. She paused for a moment, thinking how this girl seemed to know her. She was relatively sure that maybe she had seen her in passing or something but as for actually talking to her, Layla didn’t quite remember her. She could have been from a few years ago. Layla hadn’t aged in a few years so it was presumable that the girl remembered her from a while ago. Maybe that explained why Layla didn’t know the girl. She wasn’t a Vampire, she didn’t smell or look like one. Which meant she must have been able to age, and therefore change appearance. The two girls drew apart from one another and Layla looked at the girl once more, taking in her every detail. “Where have you been hiding?” The girl asked, a delicate grin spreading across her features. Suddenly, it hit her. Layla recognized the girl. Her mouth dropped open in surprise and a grin spread across the brunettes lips. “Celsie!” Layla explained, throwing her arms around the girl this time and drawing her back for a much more personal embrace. She clutched at her younger cousin, drawing back once more to look at her with eyes alight with excitement. “Oh my goodness, look at you! I hardly recognized you. You’re even more beautiful than before!” Layla exclaimed, shaking her head lightly in envy at the girl’s snow queen-like appearance.

Write an essay in which you explore the interplay of the traditional and innovative in Crime Writing. In your response, refer to TWO prescribed texts and texts of your own choosing.
