you could be the hero in me---} ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ I don’t actually know. I don’t want to be near you.
She was confused at this point, her blue eyes staring at the side of his face for some sort of explanation. His mouth and the words that escaped past his lips said one thing, but his stance as he stood there before her said something else entirely. Leah struggled within herself for something to say, but honestly, what was there to be said at this point? He had just about insulted her in a way she had never even though possible. She was utterly suicidal and offered herself to him to feed because, well what the hell, isn’t that what normal human beings did at parties? Leah almost felt like she should just call it a night, head to her dorm, and wake up tomorrow morning with no recollection of what had taken place this evening. The party had been a blast and it really helped her to move on from her ex boyfriend, but now there was this whole Avery situation clouding that happiness and she just didn’t want to be in that dark place anymore.
Why are you here?
He was staring at her full on; she could almost feel the intensity of his gaze penetrate through her skin. His question seemed to refer to two things; one, why was she here cleaning up a Room which would just be cleaned up by the House Elves assigned to its care and two, why was a girl like her here at a party like this when she obviously didn’t appear to be the partying type. The blonde stopped what she was doing, laying the few bottles she held in her hands on the floor and folding herself into the chair she had been sitting in just moments before. Avery didn’t deserve an answer to his question, not after what he had done to the innocent blonde. Still, she was moved with compassion for the vampire, his questioning features just pleading for some sort of answer.
”I could ask you the same thing,”
she replied, running her fingers through her ponytail. ”But I’m not sure exactly which answer you’re looking for. Are you asking me why I was at this party or why I’m here idiotically cleaning up a magical room?” She searched his face for an answer, but as of right now, she found none. Leah decided to would answer both questions and just home he didn’t jump at her throat and insult her like he seemed to so enjoy doing. ”I was here at the party because Charlton thought it would be good for me to get out of my dorm and quit sulking over a broken heart. I’m here cleaning because one, it’s better than sitting in a dormitory all alone and two because I half hoped you would stay,” she admitted, a slight blush rushing to her cheeks. She cleared her throat, thinking it would help her to regain her composure and remove the pink from her cheeks. She didn’t want Avery to know he had gotten to her, in a different way than her mascara stained cheeks showed. Leah looked at him then, deciding to ask him the same question he had just asked her. ”So tell me…why are you here?” If she had really pissed him off like she had seemed to do, he would have fled and not bothered to try and be near her. Maybe he was trying to figure out a way to kill her and make it look like an accident. Nah, he didn’t seem like the type to care enough to make it look like it hadn’t been on purpose. “I don’t actually know. I don’t want to be near you. Why are you here?”
He could almost feel the wash of confusion rolling away from her, her eyes boring into him after he’d spoken. He turned deliberately away from her, though not unkindly, casually busying himself with dropping the plastic cups on the table near him into the bin liner he carried. It gave him a moment to think away from her scrutiny, and the unforeseen hypnosis of her questioning gaze. At last, they seemed to have a common bond, if only the confusion they felt. He felt certain she didn’t know why she still remained in such close proximity to someone like him, someone who could be so effortlessly cruel and blacken the last of the goodness she’d tacked onto her memories. A whisper of hope blew through him, wondering if perhaps this wasn’t coincidence. Perhaps this was the awakening his mentor had said he was due…the one that he wouldn’t be able to avoid. He tossed another cup into the bag, pressing his lips together thoughtfully. In accepting her company though, and the glimmer of hope it undoubtedly brought with it, would he be assigning her to a grim future and allowing her to sacrifice herself. Yes, she said she knew vampires…but this wasn’t about containing bloodlust necessarily. This was about containing a darkness he was pretty sure was embedded into his very bones, and was in the make-up of his very person.
”I could ask you the same thing, but I’m not sure exactly which answer you’re looking for. Are you asking me why I was at this party or why I’m here idiotically cleaning up a magical room?”
Avery paused his habitual cup collecting to look back over at her, her slender form curled up into the arm chair. Any other mortal he knew would be putting as much distance between themselves and him as they possibly could be now. Or perhaps reporting him to the School for near gross mis-conduct. Leah didn’t even look at him with a touch of disgust on her face. He just didn’t get it. He dropped the bag, and followed her lead, slouching his lean form into a chair opposite her.
”I was here at the party because Charlton thought it would be good for me to get out of my dorm and quit sulking over a broken heart. I’m here cleaning because one, it’s better than sitting in a dormitory all alone and two because I half hoped you would stay,”
She blushed, and Avery found himself smiling lightly in response - but not the predatory, self assured smile he would perhaps offered before. His face softened slightly, another thing they had in common…he’d half hoped she wanted him to stay too. The blush suited her, causing her skin to glow, accentuating the blue of her eyes. Sure, she had mascara sweeping across her cheeks - but she looked beautiful dishevelled. Avery quietly noted her comment on the broken heart, wondering who the fool was to have let her go. She should be in someones arms right now, the blush in her cheeks rising as they told her just how lovely she was. Not sitting here with a monster. His jaw tightened as he reminded himself that if he had a shred of humanity about himself he’d leave right now…but there was just something so compelling about Leah. He wanted to both break her and fix her at the same time.
”So tell me…why are you here?”
Avery cleared his throat, catching the slightly accusatory tone in her voice and feeling as though she’d read his guilty thoughts. He lifted his shoulders elegantly, a wry smile curving his lips. “It would appear we have something else in common…your werewolf thought it would be good for me to get out a little and quit sulking. I happen to be very good at being self absorbed and brooding, if you hadn’t noticed.” He winked at her, expression relaxing for a second. The world really had turned on its head…was that a jovial tone his voice had taken on? Dare he say it, was that even slightly flirtatious? A scowl slid across his face momentarily. The poor girl probably didn’t know what to make of him. And the other him, and that other one too. He’d never really made the effort with a female, particularly a mortal one. Avery had never had to…he was like a walking honey pot. It was strange, because he rather liked making small talk.
”So, the one who broke your heart. What made him do such a foolish thing?” He was really extending himself here. Although the words felt awkward and thick on his tongue, like something that hadn’t been used for a long, long time, it could only get easier surely?

you could be the hero in me---} ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ So many emotions flickered across his perfectly, chiseled face. First, he casually tried to act like she had never been speaking to him in the first place. Then, his features softened and she even got a small smile out of the vampire who seemed to have no concept of happy emotions. It appeared to be her embarrassment that he found amusing. She should have looked pissed off that he would smile at her blushing, but she couldn’t bring herself to do that. Leah loved the way a smile looked curled onto his pale lips. The scowl that seemed to always find it’s way to his face had returned for only a split second before he spoke.
It would appear we have something else in common…your werewolf thought it would be good for me to get out a little and quit sulking. I happen to be very good at being self-absorbed and brooding. If you hadn’t noticed.
And with that, he did the unthinkable: he winked at her. The blonde was taken a bit a tad as the butterflies rose up to her stomach. Was he actually flirting with her? Or was he just being cruel as he so enjoyed being when it came to Leah and her feelings? She struggled and tried not to look away because she didn’t want him to see that she kind of wanted to flirt back. Not that it would probably change anything; he was still one of the most dangerous vampires she had ever met and Leah was almost 100% positive that he would not hesitate to kill her. At the same time, Leah missed this. She missed guys flirting with her and actually acting interested. She had been in steady relationships for so long, it was a nice, welcome change. She was almost positive, however, that no one who cared about her would be particularly happy for her choice in men. A vampire, a human, now another vampire. Charlton would be so pissed…
So the one who broke your heart. What made him do such a foolish thing?
Now Avery was getting a bit personal. Leah looked down at her hands, shrugging her tiny shoulders in response. ”I broke his heart. He hates me. Now here I am.” Leah’s answer sounded so simple, but she didn’t want to get into all the depressing details…not unless he pressed her to give him more of an answer. Leah would never purposely reach that far into her memory to answer a stranger’s questions, even if he was absolutely beautiful and she was almost positive he could convince her of anything. ”You wouldn’t understand to be honest.”

His wink had shocked her slightly, he saw it bloom in the depths of her blue eyes - the subtle parting of her lips. He was the reason she wasn’t enjoying the soft buzz and warm exhaustion that often followed after such a party. He’d snatched that away from her. And yet, even with that knowledge, Avery seemed only to draw her curiosity even more. He usually enjoyed the more bitter emotions, thrived on the hatred and anger of others. Leah didn’t have any of this toward him and it left him uncertain of how to deal with her. Was this why he felt compelled to follow her around?
“I broke his heart. He hates me. Now here I am.”
She dropped her eyes, slender shoulders following suit. Rather than revelling in the subtle despair that radiated from her, Avery found himself irritated that he’d brought the subject up and therefore allowed her to descend back into that dark, wallowing mood. He narrowed his eyes at her bowed head, very much doubting that the situation was as clear cut as she allowed it be. He checked himself abruptly. How very human of him…allowing himself to be sucked into the bleak drama of her life. Why should he care? Infact, the shorter the life story, the better. He was usually quite good at shortening life stories. Inwardly he warred with the sudden unfamiliar influx of emotion, used to facing a bitter, yet calm chill that allowed him room to think. The rapid flush of feeling confused his thoughts. He was torn for a long moment by a sudden desire to leave. It would be better for the both of them - she wouldn’t realise it of course, and despite the cruelty in with which he’d treated her earlier, she would probably still feel some semblance of pain at his departure. That was to be expected. She was fragile right now. Which was a further addition to why he should leave her. Why did he still sit here then…as if he’d suddenly lost all control of his senses. “You wouldn’t understand to be honest.”
Avery’s attention refocused on Leah sharply, her comment carrying a barb he hadn’t anticipated. He didn’t doubt she hadn’t intended the barb, but it still stung a little. This girl was all of seventeen…and he’d been living for over a hundred years by the time she was born. Perhaps he may not be able to relate, because he chose not to embrace the emotions of life as she did, but he most certainly would understand. He bit down on the curt response that leapt to his lips, noting with slight surprise that he was choosing to spare her from his sharp tongue.
“I don’t imagine you could hurt a fly.” He remarked, inwardly wincing as he heard the chill of his voice add an edge of sarcasm that he hadn’t intended. He truly was out of practice, so much so that every word he spoke sounded mockingly cold. Avery tried again, “Leah…” He was startled by the warmth that flooded his voice, just by using her name. “Make me understand, please.” Uncertainty suffused him again as he realised, this time, he really did mean it.

you could be the hero in me---} ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ Avery was a bundle of conflicting emotions, and Leah was half scared that he would flip like a switch and go berserk on her. She wanted to keep her distance while engaging him the best she could. He was changing before her eyes, it seemed, and the tiny blonde wondered if it was because she was getting to him. It hadn’t been her intention to kind of change who he was, but she seemed to have that effect on people sometimes. Avery was something else though. She wanted to change him; wanted to make him feel. She was almost certain that deep within there was a person, a caring person, that he had buried deep beneath his decades, perhaps centuries, of sin. It was dying to get out; she saw it the moment he decided to return into the Room of Requirement after her.
His head had snapped like a whip to face her when she told him he wouldn’t understand what it was she was going through. She hadn’t meant it to sound harsh in the least, but it seemed the temperamental vampire had taken it rather strongly. Of course Avery had to be centuries old. No doubt he, perhaps, had his own fair share of love and heartbreak. Maybe it was that which made him the bitter, brooding vampire he was today. Leah chastised her thoughts; it was wrong to judge people like that. Although, Avery probably deserved some of Leah’s inward insults; Lord knows he probably had been expressing his own fair share regarding her.
I don’t imagine you could hurt a fly
She raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow, looking at him and shaking her head. He never could cool it down with the sarcasm, could he? She wasn’t always this innocent, fragile thing. Leah used to have her own fair share of enemies; girls who hated her because she was brutally honest and always got the guys she wanted. It wasn’t like Leah was the type of girl to fling herself and whoever came her way. It was more so guys were taken with her personality and charisma that it was hard for them NOT to be attracted to her in some ways. Some friendships were purely flirtatious; others blossomed into more than just whispers exchanged in a corner of the common room. That had all changed when Daniel had walked into her life. He had changed her; it was probably the only reason why Rue had decided to take a chance on her. Now look at where she was…
Leah…Make me understand, please
Her name sounded like sweet honey dripping off his pale lips, and suddenly Leah wanted to tell him everything he could possibly want to know. It sent shivers down her spine, and her mind echoed the sound of his voice once, twice, three times as she struggled to form a coherent sentence. ”He had cheated on me, twice, and both times I said I was too good for him. That he didn’t deserve someone like me. But every time, I forgave him and took him back. Finally, one day, I woke up and wondered if maybe I was the reason he had cheated. That he was getting back for all the things I had done to him, whatever they were,”
she told him, looking down at her hands the entire time. She was too scared to look up and see if he was making faces at her. She wanted to get it all out before he changed his mind and decided he didn’t care enough to know. ”Anyway, my mother died suddenly and it was the perfect opportunity for me to get out of this place for a while. So I packed my bags and left without telling anyone, even him. And what began as a weeklong trip turned into a year and before I knew it, I released I had never once written a letter to him even though his owl delivered notes daily. When I returned, he turned away from me and we haven’t spoken. He hates me because of what I did.” She was almost out of breath by the time she had finished and she slowly looked up at him, shrugging her small shoulders again. ”I know it’s stupid. But that’s what happened.”[/div] ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ ❂ and one man in his time plays many parts words:715 note: FINALLY! lol outfit:xoxo tag:avery credit:jacksome111@caution 2.0!

If he’d hoped the sarcasm that laced his remark had gone unnoticed, he would have been disappointed. Rather than feeling this way though, he found himself intrigued as she arched her brow in silent contention of his comment. ”You disagree with my perception of you?” He enquired curiously. Relationships had a lot in common with drugs, a comparison mortals would have done well to remember. Unfortunately for Avery, he was stuck in this charade of reliving his teenage years. This forced him to watch on a daily basis as those around him jumped willy nilly into life decisions that altered their perceptions of reality in disturbing fashion. Love really ought to be monitored more carefully. His thought process had gone slightly off track, but his inner point was that Leah , being in the throes of a relationship break up, wasn’t allowing him to grasp who she really was. The acknowledgement sank in after a few moments, allowing the Vampire to re-evaluate his fascination with her. Of course he was inspired by her…she was grief stricken. There. His valid explanation. Avery settled deeper into the chair, feeling almost instantaneously better. This wasn’t some odd vampire/mortal love story - nor did he have some strange emotional connection to her. He was just slightly obsessed by the pain she was in. Come daylight, he’d be fine and would shake her off like any other young, blonde thing he’d found of an evening. Armed with this revelation, that meant he could enjoy her company - and stop second guessing himself and cross referencing the meaning behind it all.
”He had cheated on me, twice, and both times I said I was too good for him. That he didn’t deserve someone like me. But every time, I forgave him and took him back. Finally, one day, I woke up and wondered if maybe I was the reason he had cheated. That he was getting back for all the things I had done to him, whatever they were,”
A surge of rage pounded in his chest as she spoke of her boyfriends inability to remain faithful and loyal to her. What kind of man allowed someone like her to slip through his fingers…and furthermore, allowed her to blame herself for his cowardly, pathetic actions. The man had reduced this girl to the stage where she couldn’t even lift her head to explain it to another. It was disgusting. Inwardly, Avery felt himself sigh, a sinking feeling tugging on his limbs. For goodness sake, what had he been thinking, of course it wasn’t going to be as easy as he’d thought. She wasn’t just one of the blonde things he picked up, he was lying to himself now. He wouldn’t still be sat here if it was as easy as that.
He hates me because of what I did. I know it’s stupid. But that’s what happened.”
Avery paused for a long moment, trying to choosing his words carefully, tapping out his anger through long fingers on the arm of the chair. ”Leah, let me be frank with you.” He started, his thoughts swirled around him mockingly, forcing him to re-recognise that he didn’t want to hurt her feelings. ”I’m going to have to be blunt…because I don’t know how to be anything else. The man is an idiot. None of this is your fault. Had he known and appreciated you as a person, he would have realised there was clearly a pressing reason behind your sudden exit. In the first place, his lack of loyalty is sickening. You deserve better. If I hear of you ever returning to him…I’m afraid I’ll have to rescind my gesture of goodwill on your life tonight.” It wasn’t your average comfort speech, but it was the best he could do at short notice…and the most genuine he could make it sound at this point, without making himself feel distinctly awkward. Well more so than it already had.
//this one is slightly random, I lost my train of thought but wanted to get something posted for you >.<
