The Palace of Beauxbatons was originally built by Hugh, Duke of Burgundy. A vehement Catholic, and hater of anything occult, he set out to destroy the witches and wizards he believed lurked in the nearby town of Detaillant. For a decade he terrorized the town, burning at the stake countless muggles accused of witchcraft and leaving their skeletons to rot in the catacombs of his lavish palace. There was great unrest amongst the wizarding community, some even wanting to reveal themselves in order to save the muggles. Eager to find out what they were, he questioned the local townspeople, but all refused to speak of the Duke's reign of terror. With friends Adora Rouerie and Jocelin Cossu in tow, he set out to create a magical school from the once grand palace, never aware of the memories that lay beneath the castle...
