Let's admit it - we all read fanfiction. We've come across authors that can blow your minds with unique dialogue and amazing writing. We've come across writers that create plots so dramatic that you can't stop reading. On the other hand, we've come across fanfiction that has unappealing characterization, infinite grammar mistakes, and cheesy plots. We've also come across Mary-Sues* that makes us want to rip our hair out or bang our head against our keyboards. If you've found yourself nodding along, this thread is just for you.

And if you've never come along fanfiction or if you don't read fanfic because you think it's all bad, well, here's the best thread that can cure your remedy and prejudices!

Here, we gather together all the great fanfiction we've come across in our lifetime and we provide links, summaries, and even ratings for everyone's benefits. How does this whole thing work, you ask?

First, you post a link using a form [at the bottom of this post] and reply to this thread. Keep in mind that it must be Harry Potter-based fiction. That means no Twilight, no Lord of the Rings, etc. Avoid suggesting fanfic that is noted for its Mary-Sue-ness or bad prose. Try to provide links to stories that you, the reader, think is well-done and very captivating. Then, once you post, there will be a team of readers - selected by yours truly - who will read the story you suggested and give it a rating. They may or may not provide comments; that is their choice. These readers will be a few people from the House Jobs and a few normal members who want to volunteer as this job. These volunteers will receive karma for helping us out. =] All stories put on the list must have a rating above three out of five. Fanfics that have a rating lower than that will not be included in this list.

After these readers - who will remain anonymous to the other members in this board - finish giving ratings, I will average them and add it to the list with the comments. The stories which are pending reading will be put under the pending list. All fanfics will be organized under time periods, ranging from Pre-1945 [Pre-Marauder], Marauder-Era, Harry Potter-Era, Post-Potter, and Alternate Universe.

Keep in mind that warnings - NC17, profanity, etc. - will be included so readers can be aware of what type of fanfiction they will be reading. =]

But it also seemed to carry on a bit when it came right down to it...and the lists in chapter five seemed rather time consuming. But all in all, I greatly enjoyed this story and am looking forward to reading the rest.'
'I absolutely adored the style- letter format of letters betwixt Lily Evans, Beatrice Booth, James & the marauders, etc. To me each character sounded as if JKR wrote it herself! I adore Bea! She totally fits right in. Excellent. A must read for a really good laugh. Even though its not finished yet, it is well thought out and other than a few misspelled words here and there, rather well written.'

Comments: 'I honestly love everything about this. From start to finish, I was absorbed in the story that the author was conveying to the readers. I actually cried once or twice...and I smiled and laughed a lot as well. This story is one that I really think that a lot of people would enjoy quite a bit and I would recommend it to just about anyone who likes Harry Potter.'
'It's more of an outline or rough draft. It needs to be fleshed out ALOT more but it has the potential to get a higher rating at a later date. Also, there are massive gaps that make you feel like you've come in halfway in the middle of a movie in progress... I also found it hard to read, my mind wandering as I read. So far the only part I liked was 12 thru 15 as it was more fleshed out.'

The author knew how to make Teddy seem like he was head over heels in love with Victoire, which I expect wasn't too easy to do. I would recommend it to probably anyone.'

'I really, really enjoyed reading this. It made me think about the characters in the series more than before. The bittersweet and ironic concept the writer tried to portray was easily received. Sometimes the longer chapters felt too drawn out, but that didn't usually happen. I would definitely recommend it for someone who wanted to read a fan fiction.'
