A little bird, he told me so He said come on, get on the go Open your eyes the sky is full of butterflies The blossoms on the trees stir up the honey bees Spring makes my fever right
Fresh from the showers, Mathew donned a crisp pale blue button down and a pair of black slacks. His top was buttoned down just so; enough for the ladies to get a peek at what they were missing but, not enough to freak out the other guys who were at the picnic. Atop his head he placed a pair of aviator sunglasses to hold back his over grown chestnut locks. As he stole a quick glance in the mirror, he noticed how mature he was beginning to appear. He felt more like his age finally. He was almost eighteen and he was ready to be set free in the world. The only thing holding him back from being the wild child that he was ready to be was the fact that he needed to graduate from Beauxbatons finally. After months and months of ‘leaves of absences’ and sabbatical, he realized he needed to bunker down if he expected to graduate any time soon.
So that is exactly the opposite of what he had been doing. Today was a perfect example of that. The smart side of Mathew knew that he should be studying, locking in his dorm for hours. The fun, and winning side, of Mathew knew that a day like this should not be wasted on such nonsense. Thus his plan for a wonderful day at the peak had been planned. The young Cossu had already sent the invitations and had made arrangements for his plan. He could already tell that this was going to be a great day.
He slung a backpack over one shoulder as he sauntered down the steps from the Cossu Northern Tower. His only company was the sound of his footsteps hopping along the cobblestone corridors. Mathew had made the decision to be the first one to the peak to get everything set about. He double checked to make sure that he still had his wand in the side pocket of his pack. He was definitely going to need it to pull off this stunt.
It was about time that someone brought a little bit of sunshine and happiness back to the dull academy. The winter time blues seemed to infect all the students at the school. Today was not a day that the weather could affect them. The light breeze barely blew and warm air was a reminder that spring was eminent. It was time to shake off the dreary days and prepare for the weather that would soon ring in summer.
The walk to the peak was lengthy at best but once he arrived he knew he had picked the right location. The sound of the crashing and crackling waves in the distance, the scent over grown wild flowers, and the shade from the trees was perfect. Without much haste, he began at his work. From his magically enchanted pack he withdrew a classic red and white checkered blanket to place on the ground. He set up the blanket just under a small grove of apple trees. The buds on the trees were just starting to bloom white and pink. It was the ideal location for their serene picnic.
Of course with in he also packed a few balls for impromptu games, a music player, and few other miscellaneous items. You never truly knew what you would need. He stared at the setup. Decorations were truly in order. From the side pocket he withdrew his wand. With a few swishes and a flick here or there, from the tip of his wand sparked floating streamers in pastels and an infinity of confetti that never seemed to fall lower than just above the top of his head. This was exactly what he needed. This was exactly what everyone needed. He stared at his watch. There was not much time left until noon when everyone was intended to meet up. Mathew plopped himself down the enormous blanket he setup on the ground and laid back, his body resting on his elbows. His face turned up to the sun like the flowers that grew all around the peak. Spring was finally here.

Holding the quill between her forefinger and thumb, Meera ran its edge along soft curve of her lower lip, occasionally letting it rest, tickling her smooth skin. Her foot steps were slow and measured as she contemplated, a spiral notebook balanced carefully in her open palm. Her coppery locks were tied back in a neat ponytail, high atop her head, to keep any loose strands from falling before her eyes. It was a petty distraction, but a distraction all the same, so instead of letting her hair cascade over her shoulders as was her norm she had opted for something more agreeable. Meera didn’t like having to push her hair back from her face, when her gaze lowered to meet the scrawling cursive which was etched across the page. Not that it was helping; her mind seemed to be greeting every distraction with bright and eager welcome. She had made no more progress than she had back at the dorm, or anywhere else for that matter. Even now she was on her way to yet another distraction.
Sighing she bit down on the end of her quill, holding it between her teeth as she closed the notebook in her hand. This trek, even in the lovely springtime weather had done nothing for her muse. It had turned out just the same as all the other walks, completely useless. Loosing her grip, Meera pulled the quill from her teeth, instead sliding it into the spirals of her notebook watching as the feather spanned out between each spiral. It was rough on the texture of the feather, but that was of little matter to her. It only mattered that it worked to get words down on a page. She wasn’t concerned with of decorative demeanor, as long as it served its purpose as a writing utensil. Her footsteps grew longer in measure as she was able to focus her full attention on the road before her, listening as the gravel crunched beneath her weight. Meera bit her lip slightly, letting the color drain softly, as she pressed her notebook tight across her chest wrapping her arms closely against its surface. The lyrics were something she had been trying to finish for some time now, but for some reason, her muse for the song had long abandoned her.
It was distressing, really. She was hoping that the day out at the peak would serve as inspiration. Admittedly she’d been surprised at having receiving the invitation from Mattie, considering they’d known each other for such a short time. She supposed though that they’d had a fair time in each other’s company, gallivanting through the woods as she teased him, making him pry for the little bits of information she’d withheld. It was also perfect because she’d been wanting to visit the peak for a while now, but hadn’t really found a reason to do so. Meera was looking forward to the picnic among friends, though she wasn’t sure who all she would know outside of Mattie. Shrugging her shoulders she trained her blue eyes on the path before her, searching out Mattie as she knew she was approaching the destination. She’d left earlier than she’d needed to, but she’d been hoping to get some writing done on the way. It was a bit disheartening that she hadn’t but maybe the day would give her the muse she’d been searching for.
A smile lit her lips as she spotted Mattie in the distance, spreading a red and white checkered blanket across the ground. The earth was still bare, but grass was finally beginning to sprout from the earth. She couldn’t wait till the peak was overgrown with flowers, filling the air with their lovely scents. The crash of the wave against the cliff could be heard in the distance and she felt immediately relaxed. Hugging her notebook close to herself, she quickened her step, laughing as she realized her feet were bare, just as they had been the first time she met Mattie. Her gladiators were hanging loosely from her hand that clutched her notebook. Mattie. She called out as she neared, reaching one hand back to pull her coppery curls from her hair band. She shook her head and let her hair crash around her shoulders. This was such a brilliant idea! She’d barely even made it to the blanket before she’d dropped her notebook and shoes, seating herself on his lap, reaching down to offer him a quick kiss on the cheek. I’ve brought a fair share of butterbeer and some other odds and ends.
She lingered for only a moment before she pulled away, smoothing her blue skirt over her legs, flashing him a bright smile as she settled herself on the blanket next to him. Fancy a drink? I’m sure you need one after all your hard work. Winking at him she pulled a bottle of butterbeer from her bag, holding it out to him. All she was missing was her guitar.

[atrb=border, 0, true][atrb=style, line-height:80%;][atrb=style, width:350px; padding:10px; background:#ffffff;] BEEN EVERYWHERE AND BACK TRYING TO REPLACE EVERYTHING I Kabriel sat, once again, on her window seat, hugging her legs to her chest and staring down at the grounds below. She sat comfortably, curious about the flying sensation that birds experienced, and Quidditch players. She wasn't much of a Quidditch nut herself, she was more of a girl who enjoyed watching and cheering and would prefer her feet stay firmly on the ground. Nice and grounded. Unlike her personality. Kabes was all over the place in emotions that day, she was mostly good, but she felt a little sorrowful since she hadn't seen Ivanov in a while. Little did she know, there was an owl swooping towards her to give her a little boost of energy and lift her spirits. She sighed and turned away from the window, towards the room of the three Cossu girls, and she sighed once again. Good thing Ana and Jenna weren't there, they would be on her case like bees on honey. They cared so much, it made Kabes' heart ache. She ran a hand through her hair, which was left loose, hanging in waves down over her shoulders. She hopped on over to her bed, landing on the mattress and letting it bounce up and down a little. She rolled onto her stomach and picked up one of the polaroids she had stashed on her bedside table. There was one of her and Ivanov one afternoon when they had gone into Paris together. She smiled and remembered how happy the two of them had been. She honestly couldn't remember the last time she had seen him anymore. Just as she wondered what he could be doing to keep himself so busy, she heard a tap! tap! tap! at the window. She turned her head and spotted the white owl trying to get inside. She leapt off her comforter and ran across the room. Placing one knee on the window seat, she leaned over the unlatched the window, letting the owl fly inside. He rested happily on the window seat beside her, staring up at the girl with widened black eyes. She stared back quizzically and the staring match began. Or would have, had the owl not nibbled her fingers, feeling peckish and a little aggravated that she wouldn't untie the note around its claws. She grabbed her pink satchel and looked for her extra owl treats. When the owl was content, she untied the envelope from around its claws and it took off immediately, soaring back to the Owlery. Maybe it's an invitation to a magical fairy land! she thought, all thoughts that kept her from being her usual, happy self, gone. She ripped open the top and pulled out the colourful invitation to a picnic at Celestial Peak. Excited, she realized that if she didn't leave that instant, she may be late and all the food will be gone! She had no idea what to bring, so as she gathered all of her belongings, she stuffed her feet into some neon yellow wedge ballet flats and dashed off. Running down the corridors, her pink skirt trailing wistfully behind her, she seemed to be a vision of spring. Her hair would sparkle when the sun beams bathed it in light, but that only lasted until she reached the dungeons. Running down the stone steps, she took a left and then another left and then a right... a maze of directions. She was surprised she wasn't lost yet. But then again, this was an emergency! Her cousin needed her! Or well... food from her. Which was something. She opened the door to the kitchens, smiling at the sight of the many house elves who were working hard. She waved at Izzy, whom she recognized from a few ventures out of the kitchens. She made her way over towards a few other students who had snuck in there for some snacks. She began a conversation with another Cossu girl whom she recognized to be in the year below her before a house elf approached her and asked what she wanted. Taking a deep breath, she began her list, "Ummmmm I think some baguette... and cheese? Brie! And Camebert. My mum always told me to have both just in case, you know?" she giggled before continuing, "OH! AND SPARKLING APPLE CIDER! I love apple cider..." she licked her lips in delight before the house elf raced off. Within a matter of seconds, three house elves returned, carrying a basket for the two Cossu girls. Kabes parted ways with her acquaintance once they reached the entrance hall - one heading up the stairs and the other out the door. The sun was beaming, adding a gold hue to everything it touched. It was like everything was gold, she remarked. The stone benches in the courtyard looked like they shone with wealth, and the forest looked as though it hid many enchantments that could make a person extremely wealthy. It was all so strange. Kabes had never known wealth in money, as her family wasn't very rich themselves. She was lucky she even got to go to school, but her mother had been saving ever since the day she was born, so she could have her own robes and not have to wear hand-me-downs from her brothers. She would be forever grateful to her, and then she began to wonder when she would expect a visit from her darling Mamman anytime soon. She began to lose herself in the thought of her family, wondering if Mattie had invited Noémi or not. It would be nice, a family reunion of sorts. She smiled at the thought as she walked through the trees. She didn't want to rush, since the walk took over twenty minutes and she honestly didn't want to run the whole way. It took her about thirty to get there, since she was slower on foot than others, and she spotted two figures alone in the meadow. She was taken aback a little, for she knew of her cousin's womanizing ways, knowing full well that some of her friends had fallen prey to him in her absence sometimes, but this was definitely an odd one. At first, she mistook the figure that seemed to be cuddling with Mattie for Lily, and then she would have definitely been appalled and unhappy with the situation. Lily was definitely not the type to go parading around with someone like him. She loved her cousin dearly, but sometimes his habits clashed a little with her own, but both agreed to not speak of the matter and just accept one another for whom they were. Mattie always had a little trouble realizing his little cousin was growing up... but then again, so were her brothers. She walked through the flowers and, at a closer look, she realized who the girl was - "Meera!" she shouted, walking a little faster to get to the couple sooner, "How are you?" she asked the girl gleefully, putting down her picnic basket and hugging her fellow Cossu. She looked stunning as always, and Kabes always envied how easily it seemed she put together a good outfit. She looked over at her older cousin and smiled exasperatedly, "Where's my hug, Mattieface?" she said, opening her arms and smiling down at him. He was always going to be like a bear compared to her petite frame. But for some reason, she always loved it when he squished her - it made her feel really loved. I'M FEELING BETTER EVER SINCE YOU KNOW ME I WAS A LONELY |

Though it was getting on in the day, the curtains were still around Rachele's bed. Most would think she was sleeping when in actuality she had just wanted a little privacy to finish up some writing and some music she had been working on. Her muse had hit her all at once, and she had been desperate to keep hold of it until all her thoughts were out. While the work before her was far from finished, it was a little further along than it had been before. Hopefully she'd be able to actually try out the music soon and be able to send her writing out into the world. However, for now she needed to get ready for what promised to be an interesting and hopefully relaxing day.
A while ago she had received an invitation from Mathew to a picnic. He had said that they could bring people if they wished. Since she was unsure of who else was coming, she had decided it would probably be nice to have someone to talk to should she find herself having a relapse of her shyness. Most of her friends were vampires and had met Mathew before under less than desirable circumstances, and she did not wish to cause problems at his picnic. She'd considered asking Silas and Gene, but she had not wanted to interrupt their new found time together. Goodness knew they deserved it. Finally, she had decided to bring Jarod. He wasn't somebody that Mathew had met before, and she felt that he was just the right person to bring to an occasion like this.
Fortunately, Jarod had accepted and the two agreed to meet in the forest leading up to Celestial Peak. After a nice shower, she slipped into the outfit that she had decided to wear a few days ago. A quick look in the mirror told her that she looked as good as she was going to. With that she grabbed her bag that held her essentials like her wand and her small box of emergency blood pops. It was going to be a picnic, and she knew that she would be unable to eat. It wasn't something she minded, but she wanted to be ready in case an urge of any kind came across her. It had been a while since she'd been a newborn but one could never be too careful. Before leaving, she grabbed one more thing, her umbrella.
Once she left her room, the next stop for the Sournois was the kitchens. She needed to bring a dish, and she knew exactly what she wanted to bring. Carefully, she entered the kitchens and struck up a conversation with some of the house elves working there. When she'd been human, she spent many times in the kitchens learning how to bake things. One of her favorites had been tarts of any kind, and that was what she asked for. Soon a platter of many different kinds of tarts was in front of her. After a little more conversation, a thank you, and a promise to return again she left and began her journey to the picnic area.
The sun outside was wonderful, but she decided to take out her umbrella anyways. Sometimes the sun became a little too much for her. She didn't burn as was the myth that surrounded vampires, but it did mess with her eyes on occasion. As she balanced the tray with one hand, she opene the umbrella with the other. It was a black umbrella with various designs painted on it. It had been a gift from Jarod after she had turned. A smile came to her face at the thought of seeing him today. It had been a while which was another reason she'd asked him.
In no time, she was at their designated meeting spot. In the distance, she could see the group. Two she recognized immediately, but the other girl she had not met. As she was trying to get a better look, she felt the presence of her friend. "Jarod, it's been a while," she murmured. "I think we should go ahead and join them," she said after turning to offer him a smile.

Post by Jarod Molyneux on Mar 15, 2013 4:15:11 GMT -5
It was a splendid day in the outside world, and it was made even better by the promise of seeing an old friend in a few hours. Jarod Molyneux had just finished with his early morning run, and he was now thinking about what all he needed to do in order to prepare for the event. The first order was definitely a shower. It would not be good to meet some of Miss Mistrot's friends while smelling the way he did. There was a reason that sweat did not sell as a cologne. After he got dressed he would need to run to the kitchens, and after that it would be time to meet Rachele at the appointed location. Yes, it was going to be busy, but that was the way he liked it. While he'd been away, things had been too quiet and he'd been left too often with nothing to do.
As he showered, his mind went to the day that he had received the invitation to the picnic from Rachele. It had not been that long ago, and the events were still clear in his mind. He had been sitting at his desk trying to catch up on work when he'd heard a taping at his window. An owl that he knew to be Rachele's was there with a note. In it she had asked if he would mind accompanying her. A few more owls back and forth, and they had agreed upon things. It was the first interaction the two had been able to have since he'd been forced away. It was a relief to know that she, at least, had not given up on him.
Back in his room, he pulled on a navy blue t-shirt and a bear of black jeans with the Beauxbatons crest on the pockets. He stuck his wand in his pocket and set off to the kitchens. Rachele had said to bring a dish, but he was rather unsure of what to bring. For a moment, he simply chatted with the elves and complimented their skills while he thought about what might be nice to bring. Honestly, he wished that he could bring something for Rachele as he felt sure that she'd feel a little uncomfortable not eating. While he had no such restrictions as she, he had come to the decision that if his companion did not eat, he would not either. He did not wish for her to feel the odd person out.
Finally, he settled on a nice dish of light sandwiches. Unsure of what people might prefer, he simply asked for an assortment. Then, he quickly made his way towards Celestial Peak and his meeting point with Rachele. The sun was brilliant, and he enjoyed the feeling of spring setting in. However, he had little time to think of it as his eyes soon settled upon a very welcome sight. Rachele, stood among the trees looking at a group in the distance. He smiled at the sight of her. She looked very pretty, and he noted that she carried the umbrella he'd made for her some time ago. Before he even spoke, she had acknowledged him. Of course, he should've known that she had heard him coming a mile away. His demonic power of light movement did not escape her ears.
"It has indeed, Miss Rachele," he responded with a slight bow. "It is wonderful to see you, and I'm quite looking forward to meeting these people, particularly Mathew. I think I am one of the only ones yet to have the pleasure." As she took a step out, he followed and in a swift motion took her tray and her umbrella. "Let me help you with that. I am your escort for this after all." He smiled at her, and the two walked as he made sure that the umbrella shaded her. Though it was not as bad for him, he understood the effect the sun could have on the sight. Walking forward, he managed to get a quick look at the people. The guy he figured to be Mathew. One of the girls looked familiar, but the other he was not sure of at all. All in all they looked like a merry gathering. He wondered what the two of them must look like as they came from the shadows under a rather loud umbrella.

Hearing his name called by the sweet melodic voice, his eyes snapped open. Meera! Meera was here. So now he at least knew that one person would be attending his little soiree. He grinned ear to ear while he watched her unwrap her curls from the ponytail. Girls were so mystical. The moment she sat in his lap, he wrapped his bulky arms around her petite frame, squeezing her slightly. ”Not so fast!” he exclaimed as she tried to weasel her way out of his strong arm. ”You have to pay the troll.” When she pecked his cheek, he reluctantly released his grip from around her. If he had it his way, she would be glued right there for the rest of the day.
”Butterbeer!” Mathew bellowed. This was already becoming exactly what the doctor ordered. ”Now you are a woman who knows a way to a guy’s stomach.” He had a thing for butter beer and all things sugary and bad for you. Butterbeer happened to be all those things which made it all the better. ”I am parched.” he replied at her offer ”I would love a glass.” However, before libations could be shared his head jolted towards the yelling of Meera’s name. His smile couldn’t be shaken from his face. His cousin was here!
Kabriel was his most favourite family member. She was always chipper and alive. Her personality tended to rub off on Mathew. Kabes had this air about her that made others feel as she did, she had this passion that was impossible to ignore. He was relieved that Meera would know someone other than Mathew. It was a shock that they knew each other. Meera didn’t seem to flow with the same crew as Kabes did. Yet again, Kabes was one of the most liked and popular girls at the school. Everyone knew her.
At the sound of Kabes addressing her, he peered up through his eyebrows at her. Mattieface? Really? Mattie…face… Good god, could she be more… embarrassing? He flipped down his reflective aviators to block Kabes from seeing his expression. In one fluid motion he rocketed himself off the blanket to tower over his cousin. He did as she requested and wrapped his strangling arms around her. While their arms were tangled, he spoke quietly to her, ”Mattieface? Really? Nothing better?” Kabes had been known to call him all sorts of names. Mattiecakes, Mattiepie, and similar variants. Maybe she was running out of ideas. Maybe soon she would call him by his birth name. The horror!
While amidst their hug, he spotted two approaching figures over Kabes’ shoulder. His nose twitched and in a moment he knew that Rachele was approaching. The boy that escorted her, however, he did not know. ”Kabycakes, be good.” He reminded her in a hushed tone as the duo’s distance closed in. He had had his fair share of off handed comments about the Amstrot relationship from Kabes and today was not the occasion for that. Mathew finally released his cousin from his mauling arms to greet the new comers. ”Rachele,” he called, his voice low and murky. He took a few steps out until they had met. Mathew’s eye crawled up and down her thin frame – Still as stunningly striking as always. His arms encased her the moment she was near enough for him to reach out. Their hug only lasted a moment, there were more pressing matters at hand.
Stepping back from his dear friend, he eyed the boy up and down, assessing him. First year. Bit scrappy. Gentlemanly-ish, possible. He knew exactly how to peg him but, he would give him at least a chance to redeem himself ”Mathew Amherst.” His hand extended for him to greet.

Sitting in his lap Meera couldn’t help but smile at the overbearing grin which ruled Mattie’s features, his face alight with joy. It really was the perfect setting for this picnic. The first flowers of spring were just beginning to bloom, much like everyone’s mood. Already she could feel the soft spring air and the warm scent of new growth intoxicating her senses. Just as she made to move from his lap, Mattie strung his arm around her, locking her in place. She met his gaze with wide blue eyes and a giggle on her lips. Can I pay the toll with a kiss? She asked, placing her hands on his shoulder. Meera didn’t wait for a response before reaching to give him a quick peck on the cheek. As she pulled away she felt his grasp loosen on her waist and she slid off his lap, settling on the blanket beside him, making sure her skirt was all in place. I’m glad I figured it out so quickly. I was worried for a second that I might be stuck there for the rest of the day. Meera teased, pulling both her bag and her notebook into her lap. Just about now she was really wishing she had thought to bring her guitar. Maybe she would make the trip again; surely of all places muse would strike her here. Already it had pulled her from her somber mood.
I know my way around a good many things. She said with a wink. Before pulling a butterbeer from her bag and tossing it onto the blanket beside him. Glad it fit the bill. I have a bunch of pumpkin pasties too. She smiled, piling her goods at the center of the blanket. She hadn’t really been sure on how many people Mattie had invited, or who for that matter so she’d brought a stockpile. Before either of the two had managed to dig onto the pile of goods before them, Meera heard her name being shouted over the distant lull of crashing waves. Her smile brightened as she recognized the voice, her blue eyes turning towards their companion who was rushing towards the blanket. Kabriel looked like the poster child of spring, dolled up in a pink skirt and floral top – not to mention her vivid yellow shoes. She looked bright as usual, something that Meera adored about her fellow Cossu.
Kabes, you look striking as usual. Meera said, offering the girl as a wink as she settled into her hug. I’m fabulous, nothing about today could possibly keep me down. I mean, look at this place. She said with a wave of her hand. It was really a pity that she’d not been here more often; it was quickly gaining rank as one of her favorite places at Beauxbatons. I’m so glad you’re here. I was kind of worried I’d be the oddball, considering I don’t know any of Mattiface’s friends. She laughed, having used Kabriel’s nickname for her dear cousin, which had obviously struck a chord somewhere. She was glad to see Kabriel, considering she didn't have much a track record for girl friends. At least she knew herself to be in some familiar company and Kabes was one of the girls she really did adore, she shared the same spontaneity for life. Standing again with the others she nudged Matthew in the side after he’d pulled away from Kabriel. I kind of like it. Mattiface. With a burst of laughter she skipped away from Matthew, her eyes turning on the pair who were newly arriving, umbrella in hand.
Neither the girl nor the boy were familiar to her, but she offered a small wave of her hand as they approached her eyes dancing. She stood aside as the first greetings were exchanged. It appeared that Matthew knew the girl, Rachele, but not her companion. Meera smiled as he hugged the girl and then backed away offering his hand in exchange for the boys name. She didn’t introduce herself quite yet and decided to leave matters to the host.

[atrb=border, 0, true][atrb=style, line-height:80%;][atrb=style, width:350px; padding:10px; background:#ffffff;] BEEN EVERYWHERE AND BACK TRYING TO REPLACE EVERYTHING I Leaping into her hug with Mathew, she threw her arms around her cousin like he was the strongest man on earth. To be honest, that had always been her perception of Mattie. A little stronger than some of the Lilly boys, certainly more stocky than them as well. The Lilly boys, with their Veela genetics, were more or less thinner and slightly more radiant while attempting to give some prominence to their masculinity. Kabes had always been somewhat grateful that she was a girl with veela genetics since her brothers complained a lot about their good looks (shocking, really) and how many girls have referred to them as "too good looking" to date. Quite the problem, Kabes would muse to herself. They were irritating at times, but wasn't that always the way with family? She smiled as she listened carefully to Mattie's words, standing on tip toes to do such. "Mattiecakes are the best, most delicious cakes." she made made a face to mimic that of a 'rawr'. "See? Meera likes it! It's a hit!" she laughed, glancing over at her friend. Meera and Kabes shared a house full of joy and wonderfulness. She loved Cossu and was glad to be apart of it since everyone there was always so bubbly. It was rare to see someone sad, and if they were it never lasted for very long because everyone was there to sympathize and help with healing. Something wonderful about Cossu was the care everyone put into one another. She was sure it was the same with other houses, but Kabes had a bias to her own.
”Kabycakes, be good.”
It was like he knew what was going through her mind when she spotted the raven haired beauty who seemed to float in the meadow. She didn't know Rachele personally, but she knew of her and she knew something about her and Mattie's relationship. Mostly that it was complicated and that she 'ought not to meddle' as Mathew had put it so kindly. Kabes scoffed and shouted after him, "I'm always good! The bestest, even!" before giggling and running off with Meera. The two girls skipped around and Kabes couldn't help but love the red headed girl's enthusiasm for the picnic. Both of them seemed to be really warming up to the weather and it was like the sun got a little brighter now that both of them were together. Although they hadn't known each other for two long, they had for a while and it was apparent that they had the same mindset. Kabes rushed over to Meera and pounced on her, giving her a proper hug while she was passing a wave to the newcomers. With a screaming fit of giggles, Kabes toppled over Meera into the cushion of the flowers and lay there laughing. Her hair splayed around her head like a dark golden aura as she squinted her eyes, laughing hysterically. "I'm so sorry! I hope you're alright!" she managed to spurt out through giggles. She rolled onto her stomach and smiled at the boy who accompanied Rachele. It looked like Mattie was using some of his intimidation on him. Kabes smirked. She was still convinced that Rachele and Mattie looked amazing together, and she would never deny this if anyone asked.
As she watched the exchange between the trio, Kabes had the brilliant idea to go over and crash the party. She burst away and ran towards her cousin, tapping him on his left shoulder and quickly running around to his right side, smiling innocently. "HI!" she added, rather loudly to Rachele's friend, "I'm Kabriel. His cousin. But no one calls me that, so you can call me whatever you pleeease!" she quickly mentioned, nodding in the direction of Mathew. Be good... she scoffed in her mind, Mattie knew her much better than that, didn't he? She certainly wasn't the type to listen to everything he said. The part that she seemed to like best was "be". She liked this whole "being" thing. Existing was one thing, but being was another. She waved Meera over with the brightest of smiles, "I brought cheeeese!" she exclaimed, almost completely forgetting her addition to the picnic, "AND BREAD! I hope you all like bread. Bread's my favourite." she nodded, absentmindedly letting her gaze wander to the cliff. She could see such blue over the edge, she had half a mind to run over there right now were she not in conversation with the lovely guests.

Rachele accepted Jarod's assistance with a smile. "Thank you very much, kind sir," she said as she handed over her tray. She appreciated the help though she thought he was going a bit far carrying her umbrella as well. Still, he was definitely conscious of moving it where she went. He had always been nice that way; he was always aware and wanted to make people as comfortable as possible. Perhaps that was another reason he had accepted her invitation to the picnic. "Well, I haven't been trying to hide him from you," she told him addressing his earlier comment about being one of the only ones to have not met Mathew. "I guess the opportunity just never presented itself before now."
As they neared, Rachele saw the girl she did not know offer up a wave. Her own hand lifted up and offered one back along with a soft smile. The girl definitely seemed friendly, and part of Rachele's nerves were eased at that. She enjoyed meeting new people, but she was always a little more nervous around girls. Family probably had something to do with that, but she decided she would try to keep those feelings at bay. This was a picnic after all, and it was supposed to be fun. Watching the way that Kabriel and the girl interacted definitely seemed to suggest that fun would be in no short supply.
It didn't take long for Mathew to notice them approaching. She heard her name called out, and before she knew it she'd been encased in a hug. "Lovely to see you too," she whispered in his ear. Then, she watched as his attention turned to Jarod. He definitely seemed a little wary, but she couldn't blame him for that. Still, Jarod was not like her other friends, so she hoped that would at least be a point in his favor.
Soon, the trio was joined by Kabriel. Rachele smiled at her exuberance. "Kabriel, it is nice to see you. I'm Rachele," she said though she knew Kabriel had been addressing Jarod more than herself. "I've been hoping to meet you for a while." Carefully, she took the trays from Jarod. "We brought sandwiches and tarts. I hope you all will like them." Rachele smiled at Kabriel as she spoke about the bread. That had been one of her favorite foods.

A smile formed on Jarod's lips when Rachele made the comment about not hiding Mathew. He knew that he could easily tease her about it, but he opted not to. Jarod was well aware of how flustered his companion could get over Mathew. "That's good to know. I thought we were playing a very long game of hide and seek," he said with a laugh. Ok, so he had teased her a little, but he could've said more on the subject. "Well, I'm glad it's my turn, and based on what I've heard, I'm sure that I am going to like him. So if you're worrying, you can stop." He knew that it was useless to tell her not to worry, but it did bear saying since there really wasn't a need. This was her friend after all, and he had no intention of messing anything up.
He saw the wave from one of the girls, and he moved along with Rachele in waving back. Of course, that was a little difficult as he was carrying everything, but he managed. He stole a quick glance at his friend, and he noted that she seemed a little less tense than before. He knew that she had been nervous about whether or not she'd get along with people. It was another worry he didn't think she needed to have. As far as he knew, everybody that met her liked her. Truth was that as confident as the tried to act, she didn't always feel that way.
His thoughts were interrupted when the guy he believed to be Mathew called out and came up. When they hugged, though it was brief, Jarod could tell the two had a connection. Then, he felt Mathew's eyes on him. He'd expected to be looked over and assessed. After all, Mathew had known Rachele longer, and he had not met Jarod. It was only to be expected. When he introduced himself, Jarod offered a slight bow as he extended his own hand after shifting the food over. "Jarod Molyneux. Pleasure to meet you at last. I've heard only good things about you."
Before he could say anything else, the other girl came bounding up and introduced herself as Kabriel. "It's nice to meet you, Miss Kabriel. I'm afraid I will need a little time to think of a different name to call you by; I hope that's alright. I'm Jarod, but feel free to call me whatever you like." He smiled at her warmly as Rachele spoke to her. Apparently this was the first time for her to meet Mathew's cousin as well. Kabriel's exuberance carried over into her mention of her dish. "It's one of my favorites as well," he told her.

SUCH A WONDERFUL THING
[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 355px;]Sitting around and waiting for her hair to dry naturally always took far too long for her liking, which was probably why Mórrígan was so adept with drying charms, pointing her wand at her hair and having it fall neatly, perfectly dry against her bare shoulders. Of course, she would charm her hair dry, but styling it properly was something she always preferred to do by hand, braiding a section from one side and securing it behind her ear on the other side of her had, like a make shift headband. She didn't always put that much effort into her hair, letting it fall where it may generally as it never really liked to stay in one place for very long. However, today was different – Mathew had organised some sort of little gathering down on Celestial Peak, so it was a perfect opportunity to put in a little more effort than usual. It sounded like it was going to be a smallish get together, but that didn't make it any less of a pseudo special occasion, did it? She was looking forward to it – as much as she was slightly apprehensive, considering that she didn't know who else was going, she was really looking forward to it. She had gotten up early, gone for her morning run and headed to the kitchens to make a few of batches of Cookie Monster looking, cookie dough tasting cupcakes and a whole bunch of different sandwiches. Her mother had even sent her a special hamper in which it could all fit, as well as a decent supply of Butterbeer. Once she was done with her morning preparations, she had taken it all back to her dorm room, setting it down carefully on her desk before heading off for her shower. The last thing she needed right now was to turn up to this little party thing of Mathew's after having run around pretty much the majority of the school and spent a few hours in the kitchens baking and making sandwiches. Finally dry, she brought herself to do her make up and get dressed. Finally, she picked up her jacket, pulling it on and partially doing it up before picking up her sunglasses and pushing them onto her face, covering her eyes, pre-empting the brightness of the grounds now that a few hours had passed since the cold chill of the very early morning when she had last been outside. She picked up her little looking hamper, smirking slightly as she thought of all the different things that lay within it as she made her way from her dorm, through the school and outside. Heading towards the peak, Mórrígan could already hear the voices of several people having already arrived and only two of them she recognised by sound – Mathew himself and Kabriel. She braced herself slightly as she got closer to the crowd, a bright smile spreading across her face as she took the sight of everything before her. Well, look at Mathew turning out to be the secret party organiser. Who knew the Cossu had this sort of thing in him? She lifted her free hand, the hamper hooked over her other arm, offering a quick wave to the group, focusing mostly on the two people that she knew. “I'm sorry I'm late!” she greeted brightly. Sure, there hadn't really been much of a specific time to show up, but everyone else seemed settled and she was just wandering in. “I brought more goodies though,” she explained sweetly, lifting the hamper briefly, being careful not to shake it as she didn't completely trust it not to make everything fall around inside before setting it down. “Don't let the size of it fool you – it's one of mum's,” she went on, glancing towards Kabriel, knowing she would understand. “A regular Chamber of Secrets, that one,” she joked, laughing a little awkwardly. She nervously rocked back and forth on the heels of her boots as she took in the other three people, smiling sweetly, tucking one hand behind her back and lifting the other to wave politely. “Morrigan Masen,” she introduced simply. |

”If only you had been so lucky.” Mattie muttered out, ”I’ve never had a complaint about my lap before.” his lower lip jutted out in a form of a pout. His mix matched eyes softened at her, ”I’m hurt.” Mathew let out a few forced sniffles and a fake tear wipe. Hearing them talk about clothes, made the man in him zone out. He liked to remain in style but it was never a discussion he was willing to have. Once he heard his name being mentioned his attention focused again. Dear Gaia! Now Kabes had Meera calling him by that infernal name.
When Kabes followed ”I’m always good” with a giggle, he knew that he was in more than he bargained for. Kabes making a promise and then laughing was never a good sign. Mathew’s eyes never wavered off his cousin’s interaction with Rachele - his orbs tracking each motion and his ears catching each phrase. She promised to be good, however, in her mind ‘good’ was subjective.
His cousin was… special. Yes special was the right word. She was a bundle of pent up excitement and joy and all things happy. Kabes was the epitome of sunshine, bunnies and rainbows complete with pot of gold at the end. Sometimes she was more than the laidback young man could handle. He tried to keep up with her train of thought but, it was a futile task. There was no following her tangents.
After Jarod introduced himself and informed him that he had heard wonderful things about him, Mathew scoffed. ”If I were you, I’d get a new informant.” Throughout school, Mattie was not especially known for behaving – in any sense of the word. He created chaos in his pranks and in his, let's say… ventures.
Introductions were in order he supposed. It was only the appropriate host thing to do, was it not? Now that Morrigan was here, it seemed like the right time to do it. Pointing in order to each person, he briefly stated ”Obviously, this is Kabes.” he retorted while his cousin pent up her energy ”Rachele. Meera, Jarod and of course, the wonderful, Morrigan.” He stepped from his partner in crime to visit with Morrigan.
There was never a hug excluded from his greetings. He enjoyed them far too much to neglect that part of him. Mathew’s bulky arm swung carefully around Morrigan’s neck. He knew that though she seemed frail and breakable, she was more durable than she looked. He pulled her in for a light quick hug, ”Glad you made it.” He nodded his head only for a moment before taking the basket from her arms. It was quite a bit heavier than he expected it to be.
”You can put your stuff on the blanket over there.” Mathew pointed with his head for Jarod to deliver their goods to the blanket as well. The young Cossu carried Morrigan’s basket to the blanket before accessing their loot. Everyone brought such delicious food to try out. The grumbles in his stomach seemed to roar at him while he stared at the plates of food. ”I vote that we dig in, eh?” he pleaded with them. ] As any teenage boy, eating was ninety percent of what he did, the other ten percent was divided between sleeping, girls, and mischief making. Tapping on his stomach with his open palm ”I don’t know how long I can keep the beast at bay.” He sent a quick wink Rachele’s way. She was the only person who knew how funny that joke truly was.

Well then, I’ll be the first. Meera said with a smirk, batting her eye lashes at Mattie. She couldn’t help but laugh at his feigned disappointment, lips forming into a pout as he wiped an imagined tear from beneath his mismatched eyes. I suppose you’ll just have to let me make it up to you later. She added with a quick shrug. Meera knew that it wasn’t his actually his intention to keep her there through the remainder of their get together, but she was willing to play along – for his sake if nothing else. She offered a bright smile as Kabes continued, teasing Matthew with his newfound nickname, elaborating that mattiecakes were the most delicious cakes. You really shouldn’t be complaining, Mattie. Kabriel is complimenting you after all. They must be the best, considering you’re involved. Flipping her coppery locks over her shoulder she skipped into the field. The ground filled with new life was soft against her bare feet and Meera couldn’t help but be elated with her surroundings.
Meera found herself overwhelmed by the sound of Kabriel’s laughter and had barely turned to meet her friend before she was encased in the girls arms. The girl had followed in suit skipping through the fields before meeting Meera with a proper hug, one that sent them both tumbling into the flowered fields. She let herself lay their momentarily soaking in the sweet spring air before opening her eyes, the pair’s hair interwoven in flames of gold and red sunshine. I’m quite alright She said in quick response to Kabriel, following suit by rolling onto her stomach. If she had it her way, she’d have laid there all day, the scent of new grass and spring flowers entwining right beneath her. Nothing about this day could be more perfect, it was almost surreal. Don’t be sorry, I rather enjoyed it. She said, turning her eyes on her fellow Cossu. Besides it’s not a proper picnic if someone hasn’t taken a tumble in the grass. As a child her favorite part of a picnic had been playing in the outdoors. If there were a hill about she’d always taken to rolling down its soft incline.
As the raven hair girl and her friend approached from the distance Meera lifted herself from the ground, clearing her skirt of any earthly remnants. She followed close behind Kabriel, but did not offer up an introduction, instead offering a slight wave of her hand. While she’d no complaints about meeting new people, she was glad that Matthew had invited Kabriel. Meera had never done as well in the presence of other females; she tended to be more comfortable around males, likely for their easy going nature. She was glad to know that she’d have more than one person to relieve the tension of the first meeting. Though she couldn’t help, but throw in a friendly quip as the new boy noted his pleasure at meeting Mattie. He really is right, your sources may be misinformed. Mattie here is a regular ball of trouble. She teased.
Meera found her attention drawn from the pair as another girl approached them, while Meera didn’t know her she was not unfamiliar. Upon giving her a moment’s notice she was pretty sure that she was head girl, or something of the like. Matthew’s final introduction only served to confirm her assumptions. So it was Morrigan, Rachele, and Jarod – they would be easy enough to remember. Nice to meet you all. She said sweetly, watching as Matthew moved to give Morrigan a hug, following suit as he had with all the others. She made her way to the blanket with the others, where she’d already piled her additions – the butterbeer and pumpkin pasties. I’m actually starved, so I’ve no complaint with digging in. She settled herself into the blanket, laughing at Matthew’s comment, making room for the others as they all settled in. I’m thinking food, then maybe something a little more adventurous. We’ve got to make the best of this fine day!

[atrb=border, 0, true][atrb=style, line-height:80%;][atrb=style, width:350px; padding:10px; background:#ffffff;] BEEN EVERYWHERE AND BACK TRYING TO REPLACE EVERYTHING I Kabriel couldn't notice how wonderful everyone seemed to be. She honestly loved seeing and meeting new people and she knew she had inherited the classic Lilly lack of keeping one's mouth shut. Mattie knew firsthand what she was thinking when she had spotted Rachele. Without even her knowing it, she was already plotting her speech to lure the two into her infamous closet. However, all of this was subconscious, so perhaps the Cossu was innocent after all - one would really never know. She smiled at Rachele and blushed a bright red at her comment, "Really?" she smiled at Rachele, "I've been wanting to meet you too! Mattie, why keep us apart? Didn't I even tell you I wanted to meet her?" she stuck her tongue out at her cousin before wrapping her arms around his torso and beaming at his guests. Rachele was incredibly gorgeous, with her dark hair shining in the sunlight. She was a beautiful sight really, and Kabes couldn't help but wonder what her cousin had gotten into before she arrived at Beauxbatons for her turn. Mathew seemed to be a rather popular guy when she got here, and it became even more apparent that, similar to her parents, he actually had a life. Shocking at first, but now Kabes was beginning to warm up to the idea. Unlike Mathew however, she wasn't protective over him because he was older and had more things to teach her. It was somewhat comforting to know he had her back, but sometimes she wished she could put him through the same thing. Lovingly, of course.
Kabes glanced at Jarod and extended her slender arm to him, appearing more like her age than before. "I'm sure you'll think of something," she laughed before tucking some hair behind her ear, "But in the meantime, can I call you Rod? Or Roddy? I like calling someone by the last part of their name. But Rachele's name is too pretty to shorten," she added, glancing over at her. The two looked as though they had known one another for a while, and even though Kabes had only met them for a few moments, she could tell that she was going to adore them. She was having a hard time believing she hadn't met Rachele sooner, especially considering Beauxbatons had only so many students and she had been in her year once. It was all so surreal, meeting people she hadn't had the pleasure to before. But of course, everything was new to her and she was enjoying every last minute of it! Meeting new people always managed to be a highlight of her week. Just as she thought that was everyone, she spotted another figure approaching from the woods and her face lit up like a firework.
She immediately let Mathew go and wrapped her arms around Morgs' shoulders, her smile never faltering as she squeezed her cousin tightly. What were the odds that family from both of her sides were here? It was definitely a fun little way to spend the afternoon. She glanced at Meera, beaming happily. "This is going to be SO MUCH FUN!" she said exuberantly, giving a little twirl and patting down her skirt, shifting the weight on her feet from one to the other. She was loving everyone so far, even Jarod and Rachele (who she kind of already loved before, but it wasn't like she was going to let her know how much she wished her and Mattie would... well, nevermind). When Mattie wrapped his arm over Morgs' shoulder, she couldn't contain herself any longer. "Eek, family time!" she wrapped her arms around both of them briefly and when she let go she was flushed with happiness. She was becoming more and more giddy by the minute, sure that Mattie would never let her anywhere near the butterbeer. No worries though, she'd probably settle for her baguette and cheese any day. It was one of her favourite picnic snacks with her family after all. And who better to share it with than, of course, family?
Kabes followed Meera back to the picnic blanket and sat right beside her, resting her head on the girl's shoulder. She smiled at the company who was approaching and immediately opened up her picnic basket and brought out sliced bread and cheeses, all neatly wrapped. She laid them out in front of her and turned to Meera, "Mind if I have a butterbeer before Mattieface cuts me off?" she giggled, sitting up and adjusting her position so she was on her knees, watching the whole bunch. For once, she would be taller than her cousin (even if he was going to be sitting down). She pat the spot next to her for someone to join her, smiling up at all of the friendly faces. "Adventuring after? Psh, yes! I'm definitely looking forward to that portion! How about hide and seek?" Of course, Kabriel would suggest that, knowing full well that her childishness would ultimately reach a new level. Getting a bunch of older kids, even family, to play a children's game with her? What was she really expecting? As she ripped off a piece of bread she turned to Jarod and asked him, "How long have you and Rachele known each other?" she smiled as she smeared some cheese on the top and took a bite.

SUCH A WONDERFUL THING
[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 355px;]Mórrígan laughed ever so softly as Mathew took it upon himself to introduced the gorup to one another, more amused at his reference to Kabriel than everything else obviously. She smiled brightly at the other people that she didn't know, nodding slightly as Meera addressed the rest of them. “Absolutely – it's very nice to meet everyone,” she sort of paraphrased. She jumped ever so slightly as Kabriel shifted to wrap her arm around her shoulder.
She laughed sweetly as her cousin got quite excited all of a sudden, right in her ear, her hand lifting to rub it for a moment. She beamed up at him as he approached her, leaning into his side slightly when he wrapped his arm around her. “I wouldn't miss it for the world,” she replied brightly, her smile broadening slightly as he moved away from her and directed people as to where to put things. She shook her head as she turned back to Kabriel.
“Family time for you maybe – we're not related,” she observed, gesturing between herself and Mathew. She laughed slightly again as she heard the sound of Mathew's expectant stomach, rumbling as he sifted through all the different things people had brought with them. It had just seemed rude not to bring anything. She shook her head slightly as he continued to speak. She herself would probably dig in once everyone else had. She was kind of hungry, but she didn't want to jump the gun.
When she wasn't moping, she was constantly hungry and she had always had the wolf to thank for that. She was like a bottomless pit for food and she never seemed to change no matter how much she ate. If she ate too little, sure, her ribs decided to make their début and her hands started to get a little bonier, but losing weight when you weren't eating properly was sort of the standard thing. She needed to get used to eating properly again or at least as properly as she did before.
Mórrígan shook her head when Kabriel requested a butterbeer. “Are you really sure that's a good idea?” she inquired, a curious eyebrow raised as she observed her young cousin. She folded her arms over her chest as she continued to watch everyone else, a happy smile settled on her face. She didn't want to spoil the younger girl's fun, but it didn't seem like she needed anything else to exacerbate the hyperactive and bouncy mood she was already in.
“Well, I'm so glad that I'm dressed for adventuring,” she joked, laughing lightly. She never really did the dressing properly like a girl, which was how she had ended up in a really pretty dress topped off with boots and a hooded leather jacket. She proceeded to shake her head at the idea of playing hide and seek – Kabriel Lily, eternal child. Then again, she reminded herself, she was still quite young and there was nothing wrong with that. |
