Rachele stood in front of the entrance to the stables. She clutched the bag that held her sketchbook and wand close to her as though clinging to them would keep her grounded. To most, the stables were not really a big deal to enter, but this was the first time she was going to try any interaction with the horses since she had changed. Before then she had loved to ride and spent much of her time with the horses either enjoying a ride or sitting and sketching them. That had all changed once she had. It worried her that the horses might be able to sense that she ate animals and not want her near them anymore. That was why she was standing in front of the stable rather than going in.
After what felt like hours but was really only about three minutes, she walked into the stables. The smell hit her, and while it might not be the most pleasant one in the world, to her it was like a breath of fresh air. It had been so long since she last stood in here. Cautiously, she walked up to the nearest stall to take a look at it's occupant. Almost immediately, the horse whinnied and moved itself to the furthest part of its stall. This made Rachele bite her lip as her fears appeared to be confirmed. However, she decided to keep pressing on. Maybe the horse did not like anybody.
A few more had the same reaction, but just as she was about to give up on the whole idea and accept the fact that she might not ever be able to ride or sketch horses again, her eyes went to the names on some of the stalls. They were ones she recognized from before. The ones she'd gone up to earlier were ones she had never met. Perhaps her old friends would remember her. Slowly she went up to the stall that held her favorite horse, Demeter. The horse looked up, and for a moment she showed signs of moving away. However, when she looked into the girl's eyes, she seemed to see that it was the girl who used to sketch her all the time. With that, she walked up to Rachele and allowed her to reach through and stroke her.
In that moment, Rachele felt completely euphoric. This was fantastic. Carefully she opened the gate and entered speaking gently to her friend. Inside was a bale of hay, and she immediately settled herself down on it. From her bag she fetched a treat and held it out. It was taken with an approving noise from Demeter. Then, Rachele took out her sketchbook. She quickly paged over the ones she'd been working on of people. Their faces flashed by until she came to a blank sheet. Then, she turned her attention to sketching Demeter. The gate she left open in case a quick exit was needed or in case she felt like trying to ride. However, that would really be more fun with someone else.

... Kicking up the very last of fallen, winter soaked leaves Tinley chewed on her lower lip deep in thought. The thoughts that plagued her were not of anything philosophical or meaningful. In fact some might think of her thoughts as a bit childish so she was thankful there wasn't anyone around to talk to. The grounds were shiny in the sun as it had rained that morning making that grass glisten blindingly. So far the day had been quite nice, extremely enjoyable even so her usual walk was accompanied by grins and humming. Approaching the stables Tinley took a deep breath in. Besides the pungent stench of manure, she could smell the soft earthy tones the horses gave off.
Walking over towards the entrance of the small shed that sat next to the stables Tinley made a big deal of pulling on some boots, bumping into the doors as she did. All at once, buckets and cleaning equipment came crashing down. Throwing her hands up over her head she waited until the noise died down before muttering an "Oops" before gently closing the door. Squeaking along in her shiny black wellies she elbowed the doors open, throwing them back and announcing her presence. It didn't go to waste either as a person, a girl, was already sitting inside one of the stalls. Her head was barely visible over the wall but Tinley was sure. Slowly reaching up, she approached one of the horses and waited patiently. After a few minutes of slight hesitation it approached her cautiously.
As the horse nuzzled his nose into the palm of her hand she waved her other at the girl, clearing her throat as she did so. She didn't to disturb whatever it was she was doing but it seemed rude if she didn't say anything. Patting the horse, she smiled at it before walking over to her silent company. Leaning on the gate she swung on it awkwardly clearing her throat more loudly. "Uh..." she began, trying not to startle her. That obviously didn't work out. "Hi!" she shouted, finally grabbing her attention. |

Sitting comfortably in the stall, Rachele was quite intent on the work in front of her. With her new speed, she got through sketches very quickly, normally. However, she consciously tried to slow herself down. The enjoyment she got out of doing sketches was something she wanted to savor rather than just blow through. Her mind had just settled into a rhythm when the sound of things crashing down reached her highly sensitive ears. Her head whipped around to look towards the entrance, but she didn't sense any danger. More than likely it was some student grabbing something from the shed outside. She supposed it could also be two students in the shed, but that didn't seem as likely. It wasn't the best place for such things.
Once again she settled herself in, but another noise drew her attention. It was the sound of the doors to the stables opening. She didn't look up though she did note the person out of the corner of her eye. Though she was curious about the girl, she didn't want her to think she was staring at her. The girl went up to a stall to pet a horse not far from where Rachele sat. As she looked at her sketch, she began to debate whether or not she should stand up and introduce herself or something of that nature. However, just as she was about to stand she saw the girl waving and heard her clear her throat.
Noticing the girl approach, Rachele took a quick glance at her. She was a very beautiful girl, and she was obviously friendly since she was coming over to a complete stranger. Rachele liked that. Fortunately she hadn't been doing her normal random things that might be a bit embarrassing on a first meeting, so she wouldn't scare the girl right off. She smiled back at the girl swinging on the door while simultaneously putting her sketchbook down. "Hi," she said standing as she did so. "Sorry, I get a little too into what I'm doing sometimes." She moved forward a little to extend her hand out to the girl.
"I'm Rachele. Umm...do you come her often?" Since she had not been to the stables in quite some time, she was unsure of who might be a regular. She was glad of the company though. The horses were nice, but they couldn't really answer her back. "Did you want to have a seat? The hay bales aren't bad." Her hand indicated the bale on which her sketchbook sat. "Or if you'd prefer, I can magic us something a little more comfortable." For a moment, Rachele wondered if it was a little awkward to already be asking the girl to have a seat with her. The girl had come over to her though, and she got a good sense from her.
Note: It's totally fine. I liked your post.

... "When I can." She said, smiling and reaching out to grasp her hand. She was incredibly strong, stonger than Tinley would have guessed for a girl her size but then again she learned to not judge people by their outward appearance. Especially not in this world. "I find myself not being able to control my, er, footing." she said referring to her previous incident in the shed. She'd seen this girl before but couldn't pin point exactly where. It could have been in the halls, perhaps going to or in classes, or even the Great Hall. One thing was for certain, she was incredibly pretty and seemed really nice so far.
"Thank you! The bales are fine." she assured her, taking a seat next to her. "Um, I'm Tinley." Her conversations usually started out this way mostly because it was better than her sitting there "uming" and "aahing" all over the place. Looking around, she noticed with amusement that a horse was staring at them almost as if it was feeling just as awkward as she was. It's coat was silky smooth, brushed to perfection. It turned sligthly, it's large black eyes shaded by enormous lashes. "Gosh, horses are incredible creatures aren't they?" Holding her hand out she waited patiently for her to approach. When she did, Tinley smiled. She was warm not only from her own body heat but from the bright sun that had been streaming through the gaps in the roof. Using one of her most hated lines (she didn't even use it on Klaus) she patted the horse gently and cleared her throat, "Do you come here often?"
Looking over, she nodded once at the girls notebook. "So you draw?" From what she could see it was of the horse itself, and quite good. "Not to be nosy or be a snoop but that's really good." While she didn't want to prejudge her, it was unlikely that she could be in Rouerie mostly due to her never really being anywhere near the common room. Cossu was a big possiblity due to her being obviously artistic but so was Sournois. She'd seen many of them have serious freaking skill. |

Rachele smiled back at the girl. Yes, she was quite friendly, and hearing that she came here was also nice. It was something they had in common which was always a good place to start. "So this might not be our only encounter then," she responded with a soft smile. So this girl had been the one to cause the noise in the shed. She hadn't said it directly, but it definitely seemed she was hinting at it. "I've had my fair share of experience in that department." Before becoming a vampire, Rachele had often lost her footing. In fact, she'd been downright clumsy most of the time. Now, she still had her moments, but it wasn't the same as before.
She nodded her head and relaxed a bit. Yes, this girl was someone she could easily get along with. "It's nice to meet you, Tinley. I think I've seen you around." Her mind couldn't quite place where she'd seen her, but the place was fairly large. It could've been anywhere. The vampire's eyes turned to look at the horse, and she smiled affectionately at it. "Yes, they are. Some people don't think about it, but they have their own individual personalities just like we do. They're just as fun to get to know," she said. Then she quickly cleared her throat. "Sorry, I kind of tend to do that. I really love horses." It seemed that Tinley was fond of them too, judging by the way she was interacting with them. That made Rachele feel warm inside.
A smile crept to her face for a moment at the use of the line, but it worked for Tinely. "I used to. This is my first time here in some time." She didn't tell the girl why, but that wasn't exactly something that Rachele tended to broadcast. She doubted that the girl would've cared, but it didn't seem right to talk about just yet. "However, I do intend on coming here a lot more now that I've been back. It's hard to stay away." It had been hard for her to stay away from this place. Riding and horses had been so much a part of her life, and staying away, even if it was for a good reason, had been quite difficult.
When Tinley mentioned the notebook, Rachele nodded. "Yes and pain occasionally though I do like drawing better." Had she been able to blush, she would have at the compliment. "Thank you. You aren't a snoop though. It was just laying there. If you'd like you can look at the rest. Most of them are people." Inside, the pages were filed with people both from her past and from her present. Some were of other things, but people were more fun. She wasn't sure whether the girl would actually look, but she felt that she could share the book with her. That was saying something since she didn't often share it. "You don't have to though," she hastened to say in case the girl didn't want to.

... Tinley nodded once, certain the girl was right about their many possible encounters. "This school is so big and students are always coming and going so it's hard to remember when, or if, you've met someone or not." She was babbling so obviously this meant good things in terms of their friendship; Tinley often only talked a mile-a-minute if she enjoyed the company of someone. So there they sat, talking about the magnificence of horses and their incredible personalities. "I guess it's easy to forget that sort of things in a place where everything is so," she paused to think of the right word, "different?" Horses, as beautiful as she thought they were, were often forgotten in favor of more majestic creatures like a Unicorn.
"Horses are too awesome to not get excited about." she reassured Rachele agreeing fully with her sentiment. It seemed that no matter the time spent away from the lull of the stables the girl felt at home, she felt comfortable which was a great thing. It seemed that at times (not all the time mind you) she was catching people in a less than relaxed mood, so being able to talk to Rachele where she felt happy was just fine with Tinley. "Oh that's good. More people ought to have their own sort of 'chill out' places." If she had to choose her own it'd probably be the Astronomy tower or the Oak Tree despite their major popularity amongst the students.
"Oh I'd love to!" She thumbed through the pages, stopping every now and again to admire something. "Wow, if I could draw like this there wouldn't be a bare spot of wall in my room." Artistically handicapped and her never ending gracelessness prohibited Tinley from being anything close to creative. The only thing she'd ever gotten a compliment on, artistic wise, was her acting and the deepness of her voice but that was a whole other topic.
"I take back what I said," She said looking up at Rachele, "These are fantastic." |

Rachele liked Tinley. It was a rare thing for her to take so quickly to another female at least in a friendly way. Yet, here she was talking to Tinley and fully enjoying the time she was spending with her. It was different but not in an unpleasant way. In fact, this might be her first close girl friend. That would be nice especially since they seemed to share a lot of things. It wasn't just the stables that were relaxing her; Tinley was also relaxing and easy to talk to. Yes, this definitely seemed like a positive thing.
"You're right about that," she agreed with a slight laugh in her voice. Her eyes gazed over to the horses. "They really are nice though. No matter what, they are always themselves. I could probably learn from them sometimes, you know?" She was probably just chattering again, but she decided to simply take that as another sign that she was truly comfortable with Tinley. Still, maybe that sort of thought was a little out of left field. Honestly, she was never sure when she went off into or if she was still in safe city. That always made things a little more interesting.
Her body relaxed again when Tinley assured her that horses were awesome. There was another thing they agreed on. Another thing she liked was that there wasn't any real awkwardness in their conversation. Pauses had happened, but she hadn't felt any discomfort in them. Instead, they were natural. "I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, there are those people who can't seem to relax anywhere." She used to be among them. "What about you?"
Tinley started to thumb through her sketchbook, and though she had given her permission to do so, Rachele still felt nervous about her doing so. It wasn't really something that she let people see. Of course, she was often her worst critic. "Thank you," she said softly. "You know, if you ever wanted one, I'd be happy to draw something for you." When Tinley looked up and deepened her compliment, Rachele was sure that had she still been able to, she would've blushed crimson. As it was, she offered a shy smile and another thanks.
"My offer is genuine," she told her. "I could draw you something." She smiled and then looked back over at the horse. "You know, you're actually the first person I've met here at the stables."
Notes:: Gah, not as long as I would've liked but hopefully alright. Sorry it took forever.

... "We could all take a leaf out of their book once in a while." Tinley thought silently as she gazed over at the large creatures. Soft streams of light illuminated different areas on their bodies and she smiled. "I think humans are just more afraid to be themselves around others." She said with sigh. Finding the time to be yourself seemed to be the most difficult task as the years went by. However not once in the last few minutes had she felt to be anything but herself in the company of her newest friend. Yes, the were friends as far as Tinley was concerned. She had already heard her acquaint herself with several grooming supplies only moments before. If there anything Tinley wished to hide from anyone, it was her uncanny ability at being extremely clumsy. It was like a disease. Thankfully her thoughts were swept away as the conversation picked up again.
Leaning back Tinley nodded in agreement with Rachele. "I suppose that used to me." She wasn't sure when she stopped caring about a lot of things. Not in a bad way but in way that she stopped...obsessing and just let things go. That's when she learned to relax. It also helped that she'd made friends out a fair amount of interesting people. Looking back down, Tinley eyed a few more of the drawings smiling as she stopped at a particularly pretty one. Grinning at the offer Rachele had just given her, "I might take you up on that one day. A Rachele original!" she exclaimed happily.
Glancing up she did notice that not many people spent there time here. "Maybe it's the smell that keeps people at bay?" She told her jokingly. "Or they just don't realize how peaceful it is." Handing back the book of sketches Tinley removed herself the bales of hay and crossed over to one of the horses. Holding her hand out again, she waited until her gesture was accepted. "It's probably a good thing not many people come here. Otherwise I'd never get any time with this old guy." One of the oldest horses, his face held all signs of time. Gray was riddled through his mane and his eyes began to gloss over from age. Nonetheless, Tinley adored him as did most students she concluded. It was difficult not to fall for his wise eyes and understanding face. It was like talking to an old friend. "Would I be guessing right in saying you've already met?" |

"That is definitely true," Rachele murmured. She was that way herself. She was not really good at being her complete self around others. The vampire thing made that especially hard. When you were called a monster long enough and by the right people, you started to believe it. That wasn't to say she was fake around others; they still saw her, but it just wasn't always the full her. That was another surprising thing about this meeting; Tinley was actually seeing her. Alright, so the vampire thing wasn't really something she had shared yet, but she didn't feel the usual anxiety about saying what she was if asked. That in itself was more than she could've asked for in a meeting like this. "Sometimes certain people make it easier though. Too bad we can't bottle that feeling."
It surprised Rachele a little to hear that Tinley used to be one of those people. The girl just seemed so relaxed and easy going that it was hard to think of her another way. Still, they had just met, and Rachele did not know her full past. "Same here," she said simply. It had taken a while for her to relax after her parents and turning, but eventually with the help of others she'd manage to be a little more free again. Like with many, she still had her moments, but at least she didn't get stuck that way anymore. She got the feeling that being around Tinley more would assist even more with that. She just seemed like she'd be one of those people that Rachele could turn to if she needed to calm down or needed someone to talk to. It was a rare feeling to have this early on.
"Feel free. I always try to make time for drawing, and it would be a lot of fun. Really though, anything you want just let me know." She smiled happily at Tinley's happiness over the idea. This girl's smile was so incredibly infectious, and it made her feel happy just being near her. It was a shame they had never met here before. "Do you have any hobbies?" she asked randomly. They had touched on one of Rachele's but had not talked at all about Tinley which Rachele wished to remedy. Besides, she was also curious about the other girl.
This was a fair point and one that Rachele wouldn't have considered; perhaps she was just too used to the smell for it to bother her anymore. "I would say that is a very good possibility. They do have spells for that though, so maybe if they freshened it up a little, more people would come." Of course then the stables might not be as relaxing as they were. Still, the horses would have more company. "It would be a shame if that were the case. I suppose people could also be afraid of horses." Rachele accepted the sketchbook back and stood as Tinley moved to the horses. Seeing the interaction brought another smile to Rachele's face; she would have to remember to draw it later.
"You two seem close," she said. Rachele had been around the old horse before, but he seemed a little more wary of her now. Not that she could blame him. Still, he was one of her favorites, and she almost always brought something with her to give him when she came to visit. "You would be right," she admitted. "How did you guess?"
Note: No worries. I thought it was fine.
