touch me and then turn away and put your hands into the flame
Thirty minutes then. He said, offering her a curt nod as she turned on her heel, an amused smile playing at his lips as he watched her. His eyes followed her all the way out the door, up until she disappeared, her dark chocolate hair waving out behind her. The last words she’d spoken had left his mind reeling. Arden was right, it was that air of mystery that was keeping him around – he was genuinely interested in getting to know this girl. He wanted to know her. Raif had been genuinely surprised when greeted with the personality that hid behind that shy face of hers. He’d known that he’d wanted to speak with her the moment they’d locked eyes so fleetingly in muggle studies – if for no other reason than to add another lovely face to his tally. Raif wouldn’t deny the fact that he liked to spend his time in generous company, but it wasn’t just her stunning features that had drawn him in so eagerly. He’d laughed and nodded in agreement when she’d said there’d be no need for a date had he known everything about her, but somehow he thought even in that case he’d want to be in her company. Drawing his gaze from the door where it still lingered, Raif realized a few faces has turned on him curiously. Pulling his hand from his pocket and glancing at his watch he realized he must have been standing there for a good five minutes, barely having moved a muscle. Offering a complacent shrug he stepped forward with purpose, walking straight out the doors and making a deliberate turn towards the kitchens.
Considering that Arden had been so adamant about hiding her house, Raif was glad that a trip back to the Sournois quarters wasn’t necessary for him. It would have made for an awkward exit should he have to wait for her to first scurry off to her own house, before making his way to the palace towards his own. It might have been more awkward if she truly was a sournois as had been his growing assumption. He’d hate to spoil the meeting by running into her there. He was well suited for a night out, clad in dark jeans, blue shirt and tie, and fit with a fine cut gray jacket – a striped hankerchief in his front pocket. It paid off to be so well dressed. Smirking he slid his hands into his pocket as he continued through the halls, barely watching where he was going. The two weren’t going to be dining in the dining hall, but they wouldn’t be at any of the nearby restaurants either. The pub, while one of his favorites wasn’t ideal for a first date and he’d never been to particular about the tea shoppe – he had something else in mind.
Break had just come upon them and with it, fine weather. He’d no intentions of spending any of the evening indoors, feeling pressured by the close conversation of other guests. As he came upon the oversized painting of vegetables, he lifted his finger to tickle the carrot, quickly grasping its handle and stepping inside. Glancing quickly at his watch he breathed a sigh of relief, realizing he still had a good fifteen minutes before they were due to meet. He couldn’t imagine what she’d needed those thirty minutes for, but he had decided not to question. He wouldn’t complain, she’d wanted to take the time to doll herself up and he wasn’t going to be the one to disallow it. I need a basket, he told the elves, eagerly rushing to him with trays of various assortments, and dinner for two. He added quickly. He didn’t tell them what to pack, because he knew given their personalities the elves were likely to fill the basket with enough to feed twice their number. All that was important was that he get it. He watched as they scurried about, before finally handing him a finished basket. With a nod and a quick smile Raif turned and was out the door. The entrance hall his next destination.
It was empty when he reached it, just as he’d been expecting. 6:57 – only a few minutes longer. Placing the basket at his feet he leaned back casually against the railing, closing his eyes as he waited. He couldn’t have been sure how long it was until he heard them, the gentle footsteps traipsing their way across the lobby. And here I was worried you wouldn’t show. He said with a laugh, not yet bringing his gaze down to meet her own. He stood in his place waiting for her to approach. Picnic at the park? He asked, finally bringing his dark gaze down to meet her own.

you are the piece of me, I WISH I DIDN'T NEED CHASING RELENTLESSLY |
[/div] Arden couldn't help but glance back as she left the library, spotting the boy and smiling before heading down towards the dungeons. He was surprisingly respectful over the fact that she wanted to keep some things to herself until the last possible moment. He'd probably know her house, something so trivial and silly, by the end of the evening if things went as well as they had in the library. To be honest, she was a little stunned because she barely knew him at all, other than being a face that she passed oftentimes in the corridors. It was kind of satisfying, she thought as she turned a corner and found herself at the entrance. She pressed the talon and spoke the password before entering. The door closed behind her as she made a beeline past the dark, velvety couches towards her chamber. She opened her door and shut it softly behind her, her legs shaking a little. Wait, what was happening again? She looked this way and that before heading towards her vanity. She leaned down and checked her face, prodding it for whatever reason to make sure she wasn't going insane. Under normal circumstances, Arden definitely wouldn't have agreed to going out with a boy she didn't know. Especially one who acted like Raif did. She took a few moments to brush the thoughts aside and wondered if he'd really care if she just stayed in her room and stood him up. It wouldn't be the first time she had changed her mind last minute, but this was a little different. Being at a school she kind of enjoyed, she didn't really want to mess anything up. Besides... it was only one 'date' of sorts and didn't really mean much to either of them. Right? She walked over to her closet as she began to strip down and sorted through some of the dresses she had hanging on racks. She kind of wanted to compliment his appearance, his attire being a more casual way of a formal outfit. If that made sense. She rifled through a few more dresses as she planned out some accessories in her mind's eye. She found herself a dark blue dress, reminded of the look of his shirt. But at the same time, it wasn't the same shade so it wouldn't look like she was trying, she hoped. She quickly pulled it on and grabbed a colourful belt. She was rushing a little since she didn't have that much time to prepare and she didn't really want to be late. If she were to be late, she would simply just cast it off and thinking that since it was late she might as well not go. She wasn't sure why she was talking herself out of this boy, but she half wanted to rebel against herself and do it anyways. It's similar to the voice of reason when you're doing something you knew you shouldn't be doing - Arden was very good at ignoring it. As she slipped the belt around her waist and cinched it, she looked down at the bottom of her closet and around her bedroom floor where shoes were scattered. She didn't want to look fancy, but she kind of wanted to look nice. Converse with a dress like this seemed a little silly and childish. She kind of wanted to look her age for once. She grabbed a pair of wedges, celebrating this new found warm weather and slipped her feet in them. As she sat on the bed, staring at her reflection in the mirror she exhaled slowly, trying to prepare herself for whatever she was doing. She had to just make sure this was what she wanted to do. It wasn't a huge deal, she thought again, but at the same time... what if Raif wasn't like how she thought he was? Then what? She found the boy attractive, sure... but she wasn't sure where this was even going. She groaned and fell back against the comforter, rolling onto her stomach and reaching for her pillow. She had about fifteen minutes to kill now, so she just stared at the clock on her bedside table until she had twelve minutes remaining and hopped up. She walked over to the vanity again and touched up her makeup, applying a light pink gloss to her lips before grabbing her school bag and tucking everything away in there, after removing her school books and notes. She stared at herself in the mirror, her chocolate brown locks cascading down over her shoulders and sighed once more. It didn't look like she wanted to back out at this point, considering the small smile that appeared on her lips moments before she turned the brass handle and left her dormitory. Smiling from ear to ear, she walked through the common room. Unbeknownst to her she received a few double takes of other students not quite recognizing her on her way out. She was thankful her shoes weren't high heels that clicked along the stone floors since those were the most annoying type of shoe according to Arden. As she finally freed herself from the common room, she spotted him leaning against the railing. He seemed so calm, she noticed as she judged his stance. Perhaps he was thinking. She stood in the front hall looking around for someone - anyone - to walk by, and she realized that they were alone because the rest of the student body were enjoying their dinner in the dining hall. She slowly walked up behind him and couldn't help but smirk at his comment. "Believe me, the thought had crossed my mind," but a small smile appeared shortly after. "Was this not worth the thirty minutes of loneliness and sorrow without me?" she asked him sarcastically, her hands brushing against the sides of her dress. "Picnic at the park, it is," she agreed, looking down at the basket. She had to hand it to him, he was prepared. TAGGED: raif donovan NOTES: gah cuteness ♥ [/div]

touch me and then turn away and put your hands into the flame
"Believe me, the thought had crossed my mind," Lifting a hand to his chest, his eyes opened wide, feigning shock— his gaze finally falling on the dark haired beauty. Well miss, consider me appalled. He was struck in awe by the very site of her and he was glad that she’d given him the perfect opportunity to cover it up. When Raif had seen her last, a mere thirty minutes ago, he’d been firmly under the impression that she couldn’t be any lovelier and he’d even gone so far as to tell her so. Standing here in front of him, a vision of blue, she’d proved him wrong. He hadn’t truly considered the notion that she’d stand him up, in fact he’d been certain that she’d show. Why wouldn’t she? He kept his stance, leaning comfortably against the banister of the grand stairwell as his eyes took her in. It would appear he hadn’t been the only one who’d taken the change of weather into consideration. She was clad in a simple blue dress, sleeveless, leaving her shoulders bare matched with a pair of white wedges – which had served her height. Her attire while much darker than his own, was a charming match. A slim grin spread across his lips at the thought. Though I suppose had you decided against the date I could have just snagged the next passerby. He teased, though it wasn’t entirely true. Though I’m glad that you thought I was worth the effort.
Raif offered a simple nod, his grin widening as she spoke, sliding her hands along the length of her dress. I must admit, you clean up quite well. He had to give her that. Don’t worry, there’s no need to tell me I look dashing. He might have changed, but she’d told him a trip to the dormitory wasn’t really necessary. Besides he’d had other arrangements to sort out. Picking up the basket, he offered her his arm. He raised a brow at her, taking a moment to consider the night’s events. While he wasn’t particularly surprised, he hadn’t been on the impression that he’d be walking out these doors with a girl on his arm. He’d have been happy to have just spent the night conversing, but somehow he was pleased with the turn events. Now instead of an evening alone, he’d an opportunity as this delightful beauty, one that seemed to be surprising him with each passing moment. He hadn’t foreseen it, but he would never be one to complain about an evening in the company of a beautiful woman. She’d shown up and that was really all that mattered. It wasn’t likely it would add to much, but that wasn’t to be a bother.
You so easily dismissed my first plan, He started, taking a step towards the doors, stopping to pull them open and gesture her through, That I thought I should make this one a little harder to resist. Pulling out the stops was something he was familiar with. He wasn’t navigating unfamiliar waters; he knew that girls liked those things – thoughtful things. Besides, you said you wanted private. This way we won’t have any of that irritating background noise. It’ll be just the two of us. Raif preferred the idea of a more solitary setting, it would give him more room to operate. Beyond that, he just preferred being outdoors. He was glad that she hadn’t objected. The evening had been full of spontaneity, but still it had flowed effortlessly. We’ve a bit of walking to do. Be glad that you’re in good company. He said slyly, offering her a wink.

you are the piece of me, I WISH I DIDN'T NEED CHASING RELENTLESSLY |
[/div] Arden cocked her head, laughing. He looked absolutely dashing, not that she was surprised. He did look the same as before, but there was something different about him. Maybe it was the fact that he was going to be her escort for the evening... and it was just them two. That fact was probably impacting her view of him at the moment. Without a soul in sight, she felt as though she was getting to know him better already. In a way, of course. "Good to know you wouldn't be without company," she sighed before adding, "however, good company is harder to come by. Whilst my company is the hardest of all." She grinned at him, tucking some hair behind her ear as she spoke. She felt a little more nerves perking up in her stomach and a flutter of emotions that she choked down. She didn't particularly think this was anything special. He was just some other boy at the school and, being a realist, she knew that nothing would probably come of it. It was more than likely that the two would go out a few more times and then call whatever this was quits because no relationship really, truly lasted forever unless one believed in soul mates being your best friends for life. And Arden definitely didn't trust those silly beliefs. She thought that life was life and no one was really meant to be with someone. All they could do was go with the flow and see where it took them. Hence the date, very go-with-the-flow-esque seeing as it was all very last minute. But that was the way Arden liked things and had no interest in changing it up.
"I do, don't I?" she laughed, toying with the hem of her dress again. She only changed her clothes. She didn't really much feel like taking a new purse and replacing the contents of her old school bag into her new bag... it seemed tedious and useless. So she kept the same bag for the sake of consistency and because she was really incredibly lazy. Arden wasn't too into fashion, she only had simple pieces of clothing in her wardrobe. Mostly t-shirts, flannel and cardigans. Nothing too fancy. Nothing fancier than jeans for her legs. So to her, she was dressing a little too nicely for whatever evening was planned. Hopefully this wouldn't end up at the Grub Pub... the awkwardness that would ensue was deafening to her. "Oh, but I feel obliged to tell you how stunning you look," she joked sarcastically, "Almost as good as myself." she added with a smirk as she took his arm. She wouldn't have minded staying in the school for this date, or just sitting around the common room eating some spaghetti or what not... but of course, going out would be nice as well. She just sort of wanted to talk to him, figure out what made him so interesting to her and why she continued to get to know him after she figured he was so very cunning. She was sure he knew of her house by this point, her attitude gave it away on occasions. But still, she was enjoying how he still played along a little, humouring her. Without her notice, it made her heart flutter a little.
"Irresistible? You just raised my standards," Arden smiled at him. "I hope this is one stellar evening you have planned." She graciously walked through the open door, thanking him as he let her through first. The evening was warm, but she could tell it would cool down soon. She sighed, as she saw the setting sun over the tops of the trees in the Enchanted Woods. She glanced over at Raif briefly, before returning her focus to the route ahead as he led the way. Perhaps they'd be going to eat in the woods at Moonstone, or walk to the peak? So far, Arden's curiosity was piqued. "I do like private, how keen of you to remember," she taunted. She snuck another glance and quickly looked away as her breath caught in her throat. His silhouette against the sunlight was as dashing as she had previously thought. In her mind, she couldn't help but wonder if this boy was different than he let on. She wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, so it would all come down to how the evening progressed, and she had to admit she thought they were both doing rather well. Punctual, sarcastic and casual. Things Arden liked. However walking... well, Arden did enjoy Quidditch but she wasn't into walking too much. She furrowed her brow for a quick instant before being a little happy with the company. It was true, she was in good company but she had a feeling he wouldn't let her forget that. "Now I'm keen to see where we'll be going! A walk... are you sure you're not planning on taking me into the forest and killing me?" she joked. Hey, at least she'd look good.

touch me and then turn away and put your hands into the flame
I generally find myself in good company. He said, turning his dark mahogany gaze on her. At least, he liked to think he was in good company, the best of company really. He couldn’t think of any that outmatched his sournois company, though some might go so far as to call him biased. Raif only surrounded himself in company that intrigued him, it wasn’t often that he submitted himself to anything less. He’d been jaded with the boring sort of his father’s company throughout the long years of his childhood, he’d since found himself more intriguing company. Oh, is that so? Watching her tuck a lock of dark hair between her ear, he smirked. Because you didn’t seem so inclined to turn me down. He teased gently. Of course, he hadn’t really given her the opportunity to turn him down. Raif knew how to be charming, particularly so when he was met with a level of intrigue and Arden was intriguing to say the least. Perhaps, she was just another girl. Arden was hiding her house and shrouding herself in mystery – but there was a reason and he didn’t think that it was just her playing coy. But we could always chalk it up to my ever so charming personality. Raif said, sending a casual wink in her direction.
Her face brightened at his compliment, agreeing as she toyed with the hem of her dress. He’d not been lying when he had said the words. Of course, Raif had always found her attractive even from the fleeting glances they’d shared in class. She’d always come off as one of those classic beauties to him – never trying too hard, clad in her jeans and flannels. Standing here before him now, she had that same beauty - only on a different level. It was no surprise that he was attracted to her. He’d not been sure what to expect considering he’d given her so little to go off of. In fact, he’d not even been sure of his plans till he’d seen her disappear from beyond the door. Quick thinking had always been a strong point of his. There were places on campus he could have taken her, but the night was young and he had wanted to give her the opportunity to cut it short. Given that break was upon them, they had little in the way of constraints. He also knew that carriages were making frequent trips into Paris, Joli Park was the perfect setting. Well consider me flattered. He said with a laugh, taking his turn to smooth his hands over his grey jacket. He always made it a point to look good, though it didn’t make it any less favorable hearing the words escape her lips.
A grin tugged at the corners of his lips as she took his arm, slim and delicate against his own – as if he’d achieved something in her return of the small gesture. He’d make a show of the evening, it was his specialty, but more important than the show was this girl. While he’d never seen much past her pretty face, he couldn’t help but be drawn in by her easy going nature. Perhaps, it was the challenge she possessed that intrigued him, but he couldn’t be sure. A woman of mystery needs an air of spontaneity, does she not? Raif queried, his eyes flickering playfully in her direction. She was not as mysterious as she liked to believe, but he knew there were still secrets hidden behind those sweet lips. Secrets she wouldn’t share so eagerly and ones not so easily detectable as her house. He’d chosen not to ruin her fun – if she wanted to play coy, he could play clueless. He stalled, letting her walk through the door first acknowledging her thanks with a slight nod of his head. The sun was beginning to slip behind the horizon, painting the sky with brilliant hues of red and orange, a stark contrast against the blue of her dress. Considering we spoke only short moments ago it would have been incredibly rude of me to have forgotten.
[b}I’d be more worried for my life if that were the case. You chose me as victim to your spell, not vice versa miss.
|
Speaking casually, he lifted his eyes on the pathway leading to the expansive castle gates. I was thinking we could leave the palace behind for a time. You’ve only to walk so far as the gates. We can take a carriage from there.[/div] [/div]

you are the piece of me, I WISH I DIDN'T NEED CHASING RELENTLESSLY |
[/div] Arden opened her mouth in a mock shock, a grin slowly appearing thereafter. She shook her head and stared down at her toes as they began walking. "Perhaps I didn't seem inclined to turn you down, but it was still a possibility," and then added, "an escape route, if you will." A teasing glance was shot towards him before directing her chocolate eyes to the road ahead. Hopefully it wouldn't be too chilly. As the spring air was upon the French grounds, it was hopeful that it would be so kind to their destination as well. She smiled at the thought of a calm evening, where things would pass by as smoothly as they were at that moment. Him, looking dashing and her the caricature of sweetness when in reality she was willing to bet good money that they were each the opposite. Raif seemed to be pulling off his role well, that of the desirable boy who seemed to be keeping an eye on Arden, the more socially awkward girl who, when her glasses (or in her case, her shyness) came off, became better looking than previously thought. And this was true - her confidence was starting to grow a little now that she was with him. She had never really been a shy one, never hid in the corner and became a wallflower, but wasn't ever the spitfire that everyone else seemed to be around here. She had yet to meet someone who would shy away from a conversation with someone they didn't know around here. It was kind of strange and at the same time comforting to know that people were outgoing enough to make an effort to make friends.
She scoffed once again, shoving him playfully with her arm. "What charm?" she laughed again. She was rather cheerful for her normal self. She was usually a little more subdued, a little less loud in her emotions. And yet for whatever reason she was becoming more like her sisters rather than remaining the silent one who sat there and took their abuse. Especially with the news that her sister would be working at Beauxbatons, she had a hard time imagining that it was for her best interests. Arden shuddered inwardly at the thought, attempting to put the witch out of her mind for the time being. After all, she didn't want the evening to be in ruins since things seemed to be going so well already. As she leaned slightly towards Raif, with her arm hooked within his, she sighed. "But spontaneity only goes so far, right? What if I turn out to be some kind of anomaly. A spontaneously boring human being," she chuckled, imagining the date leading towards an airplane and being thrown out the door. Quite the first impression. She smirked slightly at the idea, not quite putting it past him. Despite her slight mystery to him, he was certainly a puzzle to her. It seemed as though he was too confident with himself, but at the same time he was just as relaxed as she was about the whole ordeal. Who was to say it was a date and the two would really have to attempt to make things work out? Things seemed to be going just fine, in her opinion. Nothing too awkward, nothing too difficult to deal with. She couldn't help but feel a little safer with him, too. He stood a few inches taller than herself and she felt so at ease she nearly leaned her head against his shoulder before realizing that perhaps it might make things to intimate - something she was sure neither of them wanted.
"Ah, but wouldn't you want to be rid of me before I had the chance to killl you first?" she challenged, the playfulness following them as they left the palace behind them. Only as far as the gates? A carriage? Well, her interest was certainly piqued. At this rate, they could be going anywhere within a reasonable distance. The boutiques seemed a little out of the question, being so close, but Paris seemed plausible. She felt her stomach flip in excitement for the night and she smiled over at him while he looked on ahead. Again she pushed down her giddy thoughts and feelings, attempting to keep the evening on a rather stable ground. "So a carriage ride away. You now have my attention." she teased him as the two walked along the grass. The sun, as it set before them, seemed to bathe the two of them in light and she felt a little more comforted about what she was doing. Her choice, although bothersome at first, was beginning to pay off. "You're either going to take me far, far away and kill me - OR you really do have something interesting planned." Well you’d better be sure of that decision. He said waving a hand back in the direction of the palace, now looming in the distance behind them as they approached the gates. Because you’re running out of escape routes fairly quickly. While his tone remained jovial and the mood playful, he couldn’t help but to feel relieved that she had indeed shown up. He’d been sure she’d arrive at the foot of the steps, eager for the night ahead – never affording any other option. It had never really occurred to him that she might seek out an escape route even in jest. Admittedly he wasn’t used to girls turning him down and the thought of it had been enough to cause only a momentary falter in his confidence, even if it could not be noted by his long-haired companion situated on his arm. Until she’d spoken the words, he’d not have thought out any other possibilities, but here she’d clearly laid one out before him. While faltering, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the fact that she was entertaining his company as they exited the castle gates. It’d been what he’d wanted from the start, but somehow the victory tasted a little sweeter knowing she could have chosen otherwise. She was surprisingly intriguing, considering the way she portrayed herself, so calm and subdued in their classes. Though earlier comments still had him questioning the girl, for there was certainly more than meets the eye.
He grabbed his arm, rubbing this carefully with one hand. Careful there, miss. Raif noted sternly, turning his dark eyes to her own. You know how to wound an ego and possibly an arm. Let’s hope it doesn’t bruise, lest people start asking questions. He accused. He doubted she could actually hit him hard enough to even leave so much as a bruise, but he couldn’t help but follow along with her jovial mood. Charm was something that often came easily for him, but with Arden he didn’t feel the need to charm so much. The flow of their conversation was easy, something that did not occur so often. With males and females alike he often found himself charming his way through the awkward lulls in conversations, but so far there had been a lack of such silences between the two. Perhaps I’m not so much a charmer as people say, but it seems to be working out for me thus far. He said, ruffling his hair with a quick wave of his hand offering her a complimentary wink.
The silence was momentary, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. He smiled as Arden leaned in closer, her arms still hooked in his own. He queried the sigh which escaped her lips, wondering what had caused the slight change in behavior. He chose not to question it, forgetting about it almost entirely as she spoke again. He couldn’t help but to roll her eyes when she chuckled. I have a hard time believing you could be any such thing. Had that been the case we likely wouldn’t be where we are now. He said offering a curt shrug. Unless it turns out that I am too a… as you say, spontaneously boring human being. That sounds like a terrible contradiction. I hope you know. Raif spoke, realizing that they’d nearly come upon the gates. He didn’t chance a glance back at the castle, but he knew it to be looming in the distance and sometime soon the moon would be making its eventual rise over the high towers. He really did doubt that Arden was anything but boring, her interests were proof enough of that. Even further he hated to think of himself as anything, but interesting. Boring was not a category in which he found commonly appealing. He’d been joking of course, but he’d been right in his statements. Had he found her so appallingly boring it was very unlikely that he’d be making this trek with the dark haired beauty close at his arm. She was remarkably self-assured considering she’d been so closed about her intimate secrets, yet she’d told some of them to him. He wondered what else she would tell, or if she was like the rest – flighty in nature. He’d not be surprised, they often were and it suited him well enough, but he wasn’t quite ready to lose track of this one. Not yet anyway.
I’ll just say I’m not too concerned. He said, a sly grin crossing his lips as he lead her through the gate. He released her arm to open the carriage door, beckoning for her to enter. I’ll take the risk, as you did before me. Escape routes are all gone now, Miss Bingham. He teased as he placed the basket inside the carriage. The sun bathed the carriage in warm orange light and he watched her as he spoke, unable to wipe the grin from her face, glad to have captured his attention Joli Park, in Rue de Paradis. He said fainly to the instructor before turning back to her. I thought it was as good a place as any for a picnic. Don’t you think? He said shutting the door behind them as he seated himself into the emerald cushioned seats. I didn’t think you’d be so keen to kill me if there was an audience nearby.

you are the piece of me, I WISH I DIDN'T NEED CHASING RELENTLESSLY |
[/div] Something about Raif's easygoing smile and devil-may-care attitude drew her towards him. He was something she certainly wasn't (as much as she wished she was) - carefree. It seemed as though nothing in particular bothered the boy, except perhaps his constant badgering and teasing. But that seemed nothing more than innocent and flirtatious. And boy did he know what he was doing. Those brooding, dark eyes and his perfectly primed body moved in a way that extruded such confidence that even Arden had to avert her eyes as her heart pounded slightly. This wasn't to end in the way she thought, she realized. When the boy had bothered in in the library, she honestly saw him leaving her alone and allowing her to return to her work, forgetting him in the process. However, he persisted and she returned the interest finding themselves currently walking across the grounds to the school's perimeter where the carriages flew regularly, transporting students to any place they wish to attend. Older students had the luxury of leaving the grounds whenever they pleased, something Arden found liberating and wonderful - a beautiful release from the confinements of the school they were trapped in day in and day out. Shaking out her long, auburn locks she locked eyes with the boy and smirked. "That may be true, but you underestimate my ability to escape unwanted situations," countering the boy with her return seemed the only plausible way she would really answer him. Their dialog was nothing short of snips and jokes, something she found slightly amusing. There was nothing simply and boring about their talks, but rather a more fun and light conversation with little riffs and raffs to deal with.
She shrugged her shoulders innocently. "Oh? And what types of questions are you thinking of?" she asked him curiously, "Of course no one would dare think that this Sournois boy got damaged by some strange girl in his Muggle Studies class. Would they?" Challenges were always something Arden loved. She never shied away from a competition, especially one in which the contenders were worthy. Against her sisters, she found it all rather a joke but when it came to someone like Raif, she couldn't help but feel a little more dedicated in it. The challenge he presented... trying not to feel anything by the end of the evening, was her current predicament as she could be possibly feeling something inwardly with her feelings. But that, of course, was something she would deny until he decided to lose this unspoken of deals. Nothing would allow her to truly reveal her growing interest in the boy, as it would only be voiced in her jokes and gestures when she was with him. But to be honest, she didn't want to question the evening and turn it into something of an expectation, as those were what really ruined days and nights with thought and confusion. She was clear, she was concise and she had no desire to mess with her system.
"Boring spontaneity should never, truly be out of the question. For instance, a boring yet spontaneous person would suddenly decide to sit in the library when they normally go to lunch." She said, matter-of-factly, before adding with a return to his wink, "Or go on a date with some strange boy she met in such a boring place." Something about this boy had piqued her interest enough for her to realize that they had indeed made it all the way to the edge of the grounds. Suddenly, she couldn't quite realize that they were already at the great gates where students boarded the carriages. Time nearly flew and she hadn't once thought of how long it took them to get there. It felt like only a few moments they had been at the front doors of the school, meeting one another with heated gazes. Finally, floating down, a carriage of a light blue met them. As a true gentleman, Raif stepped forward and opened the carriage door. Once he placed the picnic basket within, she followed and took a seat on the plush cushions. Something about the carriages reminded her of the French. This made sense, them being in France, but it truly brought her back to the idea of such a royalty that was so frivolous and carefree - sort of like Arden, to an extent. She relaxed into the seat, kicking off her shoes and resting her long legs against the seat. "Escape routes or not, I have my wits about me." she teased, staring out the window as they took off. The flight was a little jerky, but after a few moments the awkwardness subsided.
"The Rue? Oh, the park." she nodded in understanding. "Not quite the style I would expect from you. I had half a mind that you were taking me to the Couru." This was true. Raif's cockiness and easygoing nature had led her astray, having her thinking of the Rue de Paradis' notorious Couru en Liberté which seemed to have the atmosphere that suited him. Although she didn't know him very well, so it was true that she had things she ought to learn first. She glanced over at him and smiled, seeing him bathed in some kind of light made her play with the joking idea of his 'godliness', certainly some idea that he had thought of once upon a time. She wouldn't put it past him to have possibly referred to himself in some form of the word. "Picnics are always pleasant. But don't fool yourself, I'm practiced in the art of murder." A sly grin followed the slightly dark comment, but she figured he'd either brush it off or turn the carriage around. Who said the girl needed the escape route when it was he trapped in a flying carriage with Arden? TAGGED: raif donovan NOTES: gah cuteness ♥ [/div]

touch me and then turn away and put your hands into the flame
Tucking a hand into his pocket, Raif let his gaze settle on his arm where Arden’s tucked around his arm. He smiled briefly at the contact, pleased to have found such interesting company, if interesting could even begin to cover the enigma of the girl walking alongside him. She was different than he had expected this girl, with her long auburn locks and shy classroom glances. Admittedly, he had planned on asking for her company as soon as he had crossed paths with her in the library. Raif had not expected though to be so intrigued by the dark eyed beauty. He found that to be the case more often than not. He’d shared dinner with a number of females that he could only now diminish to being a pretty face. Arden though was more than that and she had proved such a notion very quickly. She seemed timid enough, but having graced her company he was beginning to believe otherwise. His eyes locked with her own when she spoke again, shaking out her tresses, a smirk teasing her lips. Perhaps, I underestimated a lot. He said casually, a smirk forming on his own features. Tell me Arden, what sorts of unwanted situations have you escaped from? This way I can gauge my tactics. The nature was light between them, trivial really –a constant banter and while his question remained playful, he was curious. He wanted to know more of the girl who seemed so intent on keeping herself a mystery.
You’re right. I really have no reason to worry, now that I give it second thought. he said casually, his eyes darting in her direction. No one would believe I’d walk away from a date with a bruise, they’d more likely think it was an encounter with a werewolf or something. Raif laughed, offering her a casual wink. So shove away. Teasing he lifted his arm to her as though expecting her to push him further away. He was finding himself rather pleased in the sudden confidence she seemed to be exuding, opposed to shy nature she exhibited in class. He couldn’t be sure if this was her normal nature, or something that he’d brought on – which he admittedly found to be a pleasing thought. Generally Raif would go so far as to say he was pleasing company and not be bothered by the outcomes. If he was met with distaste he could usually find the fault in his company which suited him just fine, but he was glad in this particular instance that he’d not have to make such assumptions. While he had first been drawn to her because she was attractive, he as finding that there was more behind that mask – a certain air of darkness that he was finding strangely compelling. He’d had only one goal when he’d met her in the library earlier that day and it was to secure her company. Now that he had it, he wasn’t sure where he wanted things to go next. He had a habit of overlooking the bigger picture, but as for the here and now he was content.
So are you trying to tell me that you are one who acts out of boredom spontaneity? Is that why I found you in the library today? He asked with a laugh, having a hard time picturing the girl as boring. Some of the first words she uttered in their conversation having been surrounding her intrigue in the dark arts. Perhaps it was a boring place, but I can assure you I’m never boring. Raif said confidently and he meant it. He wasn’t one who liked to be overshadowed. He’d grown up in a wealthy pure blood family and had always been very secure in his fortunes. He didn’t have any particular ill will to his father, but Raif had always made a point to cast his own light in the family home. Being boring would have never allotted him the attention he received. He found that boredom was really only a state of mind, one that he never liked to associate himself with. He liked to think he was a bit more interesting, as was the company he kept. As they came to the carriages he swept aside, opening the light blue carriage door beckoning for her to enter. He had half wondered if she would back out at the last minute and decide she would be more comfortable staying on the grounds than traversing the city streets with a complete stranger, but was pleased when she stepped inside, seating herself on the soft cushions. Stepping inside behind her, he sat himself immediately across from her, leaning casually into the seat as the carriage took flight. It’s a nice change of pace, a girl with both wits and charm. I consider it luck. He said, a smile lighting his features. He knew she’d not meant it in such a manner, but he had no doubt that a girl like herself had her wits about her. If a situation ever arose, he believed that Arden could make a stand for herself.
Raif couldn’t even find himself offended when she spoke again, seemingly surprised at his choice of location. Her ideas might not have been so misconstrued. In fact, had their first conversation gone a bit differently he might very well be leading her by the hand into the Couru, He actually quite favored the place, the atmosphere fun and a bit risqué. Something in their banter though had led him astray. It wasn’t as though he found Arden less attractive than the other girls, but he had wanted something more than a night on the town, seemingly stuck in the others embrace. It was something he had done before and often, but he wanted to get to know her. He almost laughed aloud at the thought, considering it wasn’t something he’d been keenly interested in a long time, actually getting to know the girl. He felt as though he’d sight the evening if he didn’t have her more intimate company. Had I not sought to delve into that mind of yours, it might have been our end location, but I’m quite enjoying our conversation… seems a pity to lose it to a crowd. Offering a casual shrug, he countered her statement, realizing that he was just as surprised as she was. A killer now too? He said, raising a brow at her. I don’t know you’ve yet to even prove you’ve got what it takes to commit the crutacious curse. I can’t say as though I feel concerned… though perhaps we’ll find out.
