Duelling Tournaments

I think that a great event that should happen every 2 months or so is a Duelling Tournament!

Involvement
Not every single person can sign up, but maybe start a Duelling Club and then everyone in the Duelling club competes? Or, if there is so many people in the Duelling Club, a certain amount of people sign up to the Tournament, and whoever is the last standing wins.


Consistency
Someone could type up spells that can only be used, like, we can't have people doing the Killing Curse on each other! If someone uses a spell that is not on the list, the opponent wins. If someone fired a spell at there opponent, and the opponent doesn't block it after a certain amount of days, then the that fired the spell wins.

Maybe we could use points in duels? What I mean is, everyone starts off with 5 points, and certain spells cost points? An advanced spell might cost more then a simple spell, like Expelliarmus? If someone doesn't have any points left, then they can't fire any more spells, and the opponent could fire a spell and they win?

Or, you could team up two people to duel, and you still have a spells list, but this time you keep firing spells at each other until one person wins? But that could mean the duel lasting forever, but what do you all think?

I pmed MM this idea, and she wanted me to post my idea on here to ask what you all think? I think it is a very good idea, and most sites don't do Duels, and everyone likes duels.

On a side note, there should be a sub board where you plan friendly duels with each other, and another sub board where you can do the duel but still following the rules? Someone could referee it and determine who wins.

I think that as Beauxbatons is a magic school, there should be more dueling! There is quidditch, which was made after dueling.

i do think this could potentially be a great thing to have, but there's a few things that might need to be taken into consideration.

i think the points idea is a good. but perhaps instead of taking away point, people gain points for certain spells. there could be a list made of spells people could use and their point worth and then a list of spells people can't use and perhaps a negative point worth if people happen to rp that out (which i hope they wouldn't because we would want this to be a positive experience for people). perhaps if someone didn't block a spell correctly, that person would lose points and the person that cast a correct spell against their opponent would get those points. so at the end, whoever has the most points would win. i think it would be better to just have one on one. it might get a bit cluttered/complicated to keep up with two duelers vs two duelers.

on that note, we would to take in age and year regarding experience. seventeen year old students would know more spells over twelve year old students and since students can gradually get to a second year, third year, etc, they get taught more advanced material over first years. if this dueling club would go through, we'd have to pay careful attention to who's going against who. people wouldn't/shouldn't be able to pick their partners. lastly, there's the whole god modding issue. everyone would like their characters to win and it would be easy to say, "jane cast expelliarmus and disarmed her opponents wand" and have your charcaters fly through their duel with flying colors. there would have to be some way to enforce a way for your characters to mess up from time to time or this won't work out to well in my opinion. we could use a word count system. we could say that at 700 words, someone would have to not block something that was cast at them. for example. the first post was three hundred words, the next person posts a three hundred word count and that would mean the third post (the first poster) would have to lose some points because she was the one that reached 700 words for their thread. we use something like this with quidditch on another site i'm on (but it's for whoever gets the snitch and a whole other story that would take forever). of course 700 is just a totally random number and could be changed since some people on here have posts with well over 700 words.

so there are my thoughts. i dunno if any of the admins have figured out how the quidditch games are going yet since there are a few spots open so dueling might be second to quidditch to get going. i know i'm a bit biased when i saw i would love to see some quidditch up and running first. but like i said, this is a good idea, it just needs to get a few flaws figured out.
