[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] with a whisper, we will tame the vicious seas,
... Twisting a lock of hair around her finger, Cherri wandered around the bustling halls. Students were chatting and smiling now that classes had ended for the day. She didn't join them however finding herself slightly preoccupied at that very moment. She could have sworn she'd seen him, would have bet everything on it. It'd been quite some time since they'd had any actual contact, save for the occasional letter, and she'd forgotten how much a person could be missed. She only stalled her thoughts in order to oversee a gobstones game currently taking place outside the charms classroom. Sinking onto the edge of window she watched intently, laughing as a brown-haired girl lost a point and the stone spit a disgusting liquid into her face.
Waving goodbye Cherri moved away from the group and continued her deep thinking. It had been late afternoon, a few days ago when she figured it must have been him she saw. She had just been leaving her Herbology class after serving a rather unnecessary detention. He'd been walking in the opposite direction so the glimpse she'd gotten had been very quick but it was one she hadn't forgotten since then. He'd looked the same, perhaps a bit taller and definitely older for obvious reasons. Nonetheless, he was the same to her. It'd been possibly the longest relationship she'd ever had and, despite her young age, the most seriously heartbreaking. While things had been left on good terms with them remaining the best of friends time had unfortunately gotten in the way of it in the end and now they were in different places. At least she'd thought they'd been.
It seemed irrelevant for her to mention the name of the school she would been attending that year when she'd last written him so there was no way he'd come for her. Not that he would have anyway. No, the only solution she could concoct was that he'd simply come for the school itself. It made sense since that's what she'd come for as well (the school was rather impressive) and it was the most obvious of conclusion. While it was surprising to see him she was very excited. Santeri was probably her closet and most trusted friend. She could count on him for many things regardless of how much time had passed, and she allowed herself to be that for him in return.
Her thoughts morphed into memories and she smiled at some of the adventures they'd shared. Slipping past a group of students, she pulled open the door and stepped inside an empty classroom. Marching over to the windows, she wrenched one open, gazed outside and allowed her thoughts to take over her mind. |

A loud crack sounded through the air as a baseball shot into the horizon, where the sun had started to set. A moment later and there was a small 'plop' as the ball dropped into the lake beyond where the boy who hit it was standing. "I guess it would have been a tad better if someone was in the receiving end," Santeri commented, hefting the baseball bat so it tapped his shoulder as he stood there observing the lake, looking as relaxed as someone who was watching him would have been. He pulled his wand from his pocket - an important tool when it came to masquerading as a human, aside from it's usefulness - and slowly swished it; a wordless spell. A moment later the ball was zooming out of the water and into his waiting hand. "Well, another time then." He tapped the bat once more against his shoulder again before lowing it to his side, and then pushed the baseball into his trouser pocket. He half turned to glance at the school, which was now bustling with activity, signaling that classes were over. What a bad Rouerie he was for ditching classes. Again.
He started on up to the main school building, wondering what to do now with his time, it wasn't as if there was anything he had to do besides non-existent homework, and he didn't especially feel like going back to the common room either, which was rather sad as he didn't know what to do with his baseball bat and he didn't want anyone to think he was a thug just for carrying it around with him. Santeri sighed thoughtfully, his mismatched eyes looking upwards towards the sky, which was now overshadowed by the impending fortress of academics ahead of him. He paused though as something caught his eye, a person in one of the windows of the classroom block joining to the building mostly occupied by the school entrance. Both eyes widened for a moment as he stopped in mid-stride. It couldn't be. Without another second's delay he turned and started jogging quicker towards the school, until he ended up in a flat out run. He was actually pretty athletic and that was displayed by the amount of muggle sports he took up when he was out of school grounds, and despite his less than impressive stature as far as his height went.
Going at the pace he was moving at, and accidently shoving past several students and uttering a barrage of apologies in his wake, he skidded to a stop outside the room where he thought he saw the figure at the window. He couldn't help but hesitate for a moment before proceeding - he really could have been mistaken as his eyes may have been playing tricks on him, but he decided to take that chance anyway. Taking a deep breath and holding it, he rounded the corner, and then exhaled. There she was, there was no mistaking it after all. Santeri bent slightly to lean the baseball bat against the wall before taking a couple small steps forward. Yes, it was her, he'd recognize her anywhere, and knowing how long he lived, the time apart they'd spent had seemed so little. Of course that wasn't to say that they hadn't spoken during the separation. They'd sent letters here or there, and it was kind of amusing how her letters managed to follow him anywhere, no matter where his travels led him. It was as if this was going to be a bittersweet reunion between old friends, he could almost taste it.
"Cherri...?" he started tentatively, watching the brunette as she was still gazing out the window, seemingly unaware that she had company, though his voice would have alerted her if his footsteps hadn't. He took several more steps forward until he was at the window beside her, looking out of it himself, before side glancing at her. "It's been a while. Although strictly speaking it's been longer than that." He paused for a moment before smiling. "You look good though. Taller too." He refrained from saying 'bigger' in case that gave her the wrong impression, so 'taller' seemed like a good enough describing word for now.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] with a whisper, we will tame the vicious seas,
... Her eyes closed briefly as the footsteps neared. She had half a mind to tell whomever it was to leave her alone but the voice reached her ears before she could speak. She had been right then. "Santeri." It wasn't a call to him but more of a statement telling that he was actually there and she really wasn't going crazy. Unsure whether or not she wanted to see him was a question she had no time for. Instead she allowed him to stand next to her in silence for a few seconds while she thought about his words. "Taller?" she said finally, turning to face him. It was difficult to keep her mouth turned into a frown so she gave into her joy quickly. "A whole inch." She told him with a nod. "You look good, too. Don't tell me you secretly aged on me."
It was a strange feeling, she thought. Seeing him after such a long time. Their letters, though frequent, seemed next nothing as she stood next to him. His presence made her both happy and sad. Happy that she was seeing him again and sad that it was only now that he was next to her. They'd always made plans to see each other but something always happened. Time certainly wasn't a factor. At least not for him. Santeri would always have the time it was Cherri who would run out. "How have you been?" she asked him, twisting a strand of hair around her finger.
Looking over at him she noticed the baseball bat hanging limping by his side. "Still playing sports? That's good, I remembered how much you loved muggle sports." She selfishly recalled her own memory of taking him to a stadium to watch a football game. They'd argued about who'd win the entire game but it'd still be one of her favorite times. He'd even bought her a small flag which was tucked away in her trunk. Shaking her head she released a heavy sigh uncomfortable with the silence. "So," she said with much more happiness in her voice. "Beauxbatons? You never mentioned this as your next stop in your letter? Perhaps I missed it?" She teasingly bumped her shoulder against his. Regardless of how suddenly hopeless she felt it was nice to see him again. To know that he was actually next to her. |

He let her take her time to reply after speaking first. It was a comfortable silence and in Cherri's company he would have been able to just stand here with her for longer in the quiet of the classroom. Then she turned to look at him and he smirked slightly. He couldn't help himself, at this point despite how he had a sincere reluctance when it came to sharing his secrets with many people, she was one he trusted enough to confide in. "Well, you know, I might have a few wrinkles here and there," he said casually as he turned towards her, leaning on the windowsill as he did so. His answer couldn't have been father from the truth, and he had a feeling Cherri would have been extremely skepical about that answer too. It could even have been said that it was simply a joke wrapped into a serious answer. Sometimes - or a lot of times - he really hated the fact that time never aged him; it was a curse he'd been given from the get-go, never having the option to go back and change something or even to die to rid himself of it. His condition seemed to be much worse than a vampire's. Oh, but he never said anything or gave Cherri any impression that all this was on his mind. He didn't want to worry her; she most likely had her own problems to consider without dropping a bombshell like that into the mix.
"I've been... great." He was rather tentative with his answer, but as his letters held no sign of anything being wrong, it was always best to continue from where they left off. "How about you? I never really expected to see you... in a place like this at least." It wasn't exactly his own idea or anything to attend the school, and quite a lot of times he even wondered why he was even here himself. However, he arrived along with his best friend Niklas, who seemed so determined to find his long lost brothers of sorts. Santeri overall didn't especially mind, after all, he'd follow Nikkii to hell and back if that's what he wanted, plus he also met several other people around the school he got along with too. All in all, it honestly wasn't that bad, and the fact that Cherri was here too... well, it certainly made things all the more interesting, in a good way of course.
Upon inquiring about the bat, he followed her gaze and a slow grin spread across his features, multicoloured eyes flashing excitably at her. "Oh yeah! Some things never change, huh?" He turned and walked over to grab the bat's handle, which he had placed by the door. Then he walked back and assumed his former position at her side, just then leaning the object next to his foot. "Baseball. Kinda hard when you're the only one playing though." As a half blood he understood that she simply only thought of such things as 'muggle sports' and didn't particularly enjoy watching or participating in such things, for the most part anyway. She still went with him whenever he wanted to watch certain things live and even actually seemed to enjoy it at the time. Of course things worked both ways so he had to do whatever she wanted afterwards; he didn't really mind that so much. Suddenly the conversation changed though and he looked as sheepish as he felt, even as she seemed to have a lighthearted view on it. "Last minute plans," he told her simply. "I didn't actually know I was coming here until a raging mad vampire charged in this direction, and I was compelled to follow." He finished with a laugh. That was a pretty scary time but things worked out in the end, as most things did. He was more curious about what brought Cherri here though, and then he remembered something. "Oh! Right. Sorry about now being able to return any of your letters recently, I've been caught up with so many things..." He gave her a wary smile that seemed almost as if he was pleading for her to understand his reasons for not doing so. She was bound to forgive him for such things though, at least she had done so in the past. He wasn't quite so sure if anything like that had changed though.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] with a whisper, we will tame the vicious seas,
... His casual tone offered her another chance at a smile. Always the joker it seemed, but she was sure he words rang hopelessly in his ears. Most people wouldn't notice the joke was rather humorless. They stood in silence for a bit longer, each mulling over unspoken words. Snorting at his slow answer, she knew that nothing was as great as he'd lead her to believe but the brunette didn't push the matter. They stopped having secrets long ago but even they knew when certain things were better left unsaid, even to each other. She tossed his question about, trying to figure out what to say. "Oh, the education really. You know my mum, eccentric but always the scholar." It was a lie of course, since even a stranger could see how much she pushes off her studies. It was something she was often chastised on.
"One can only go on so many walking holidays with my parents." Cherri's parent, admittedly the strangest of pairs, were currently on holiday in Tuscany. Insisting that they needed to discover the exact location of a group of Centaurs. Something about the aligning of the stars along with some other gibberish she paid no attention to. Lately her parents had become more and more frantic about this, causing endless headaches for the only child. As much as Cherri adored them sometimes even she grew tired of their undying belief.
Stepping to the side Cherri turned her attention towards Santeri again, eyeing the bat with amusement. "Still, you must have gotten better at it after all this time." Often Cherri would find herself wishing she had paid more attention to certain things, especially during their time together. Like many Cherri had stupidly let her disinterest get the better of her and she tended to let moments pass by. While nothing could be done about their eventual separation she was sure the whole ordeal would have been much more bearable had she taken the time to form more memories than she had. Not that the ones she did remember weren't great but one, like her, tended to easily regret dumb choices. His explanation wasn't fantastic. It was vague and caused a twinge of hurt to scratch at her heart but Cherri smiled nonetheless. She did understand. It was no secret, to her anyway, that Santeri had a life she would never truly grasp. He had so many things going on both dangerous and incomprehensible so she wouldn't hold him at fault for anything.
"Don't worry about that." she finally said. Her voice cracked slightly as she tried to both whisper her words and sound as cheerful as she had before. "I don't know if I would have been able to answer them anyway. Distractions are often highly discouraged when you're trailing dragons on the British countryside."

Santeri wasn't too sure if the impending silences between them were uncomfortable or not, but it was all to be expected. They hadn't seen each other in so long and pretty much everything worth mentioning had been expressed through their letters, besides the most recent events. They knew each other for long enough that a lot of things didn't really need to be said, though it was every once in a while to divulge themselves in what seemed to be perfectly normal teenage banter, and so long as he was in Cherri's company that seemed to be required. And normality was something he desired every so once in a while, though since she knew what he was in was nice to drop that charade and be himself for the most part. Though these days he couldn't quite draw the line where his human persona lay and his demon side began. He focused back on her words again as she spoke, quickly and efficiently as if juggling his thoughts and listening to others without skipping a beat was second nature. Santeri smirked and nodded, knowing what she was getting at. "I know where you get it from, the longing of wanting to learn more, I mean. Quite the mommy's girl aren't we?" His voice held a tone of teasing to it. "But I suppose you'd still be quite a smart girl, extra education attending these places or not. School just isn't for everyone after all."
Over the years Santeri had actually attended several schools, trying to fit in and mingle amidst the masses. Though none of them had quite compared to this one, and in none of them did he become as acquainted with so many people as he did with Beauxbatons. He arched an eyebrow, both bright blue and hazel eyes gazing inquisitively at her. "I don't know, that actually sounds quite fun. Though to each her own I guess," he added, giving her a lopsided grin. It really did though; well, he was used to travelling, but the thought of going somewhere with ones parents, spending time with them and bonding over something... it wasn't something he particularly missed himself, seeing that he'd never actually done any such thing himself. "I'd actually suggest doing as many things with them as possible, you never know when something might happen that could stop all that." He quickly fell silent for a moment. Man, he was getting to sound pretty morbid here. Maybe it was his old age. "Sorry, that wasn't my place," he then went on to apologize, giving her a tentative smile as an add on.
Santeri watched her move and then shrugged, his eyes flicking downwards towards the bat and then back again. "Eh. I'd say I'm about average," he replied modestly. "If I had a partner who knows, maybe I could improve," he added, moving so he could playfully nudge her with one elbow before resuming his previous stance again. "But like most sports and games, it depends on the competition." He didn't really say much more on the subject on that. He didn't come here to bore the girl to tears on the mechanics of baseball or other similar competitive sports. He wasn't the type of person to force his likes on others, though over the years he met numerous people and grew to like various other things than just his basic jock-like activities. Things that were much more modern, things he couldn't grasp from the start like video games and other such technology. Ah yes, times had changed and reality was so much more different from what it was, just as the future was so big and unique too. He loved each of the timelines in very different ways. Though of course he couldn't explain any of this to anyone he knew; quite impossible really for multiple reasons.
Santeri narrowed his eyes at her, finally turning fully to look at her though his left arm leant partially on the windowsill. He'd caught the tone of her voice despite her trying to hide it behind a mask of cheerfulness. Clearly she was more distressed about it than she let on, or wanted him to believe. "You make it sound so simple, as if a simple yet small thing caught my attention for such a long time that it took for me to reply to your letters," he suddenly said after a moment of watching, his voice a soft caress as he spoke. "You know that I'd never hurt you if I could help it, though it seems that I've done that an awful lot over the years..." He chuckled slightly, the noise sounding almost bitter. He did have a habit of disappointing people, but Cherri being one of his closest friends... well, he did have a habit of wearing his heart on his sleeve too much, as some had told him. "I don't really know if you'll forgive me or not but..." He trailed off and sighed, raising his free hand to run it through his dark locks, seemingly looking thoughtful as well as tired - that mere shift in expression making him appear as if he aged a few years more than he was. He really wasn't too used to having conversations like this, but there was no way he was going to make excuses for himself now.
