PHANTOM SHADOWS ON THE FLOOR There was a crackling sound at her feet. She looked down and saw that it was fire. She moved back but was met with more fire. Slowly, the embers formed a circle around her. Just as the flames were going to touch her, she woke up. Her eyes looked up into complete darkness. At first, she believed that she had died but she saw that it was only night. Her bright blue eyes darted over to her best friend's sleeping form. She let out a relived sigh. Ever since her friend came back, she was afraid that she would lose her. How many people would she have to lose until she reclaimed her fortune? There was a long path ahead of her and she didn't know if she was going to walk it. Luckily, she didn't have to decide yet. The only things on her list were completing school and avoid being recognized. She had to say that she had done a pretty good job. No one had recognized her except for Professor Smith and Scarlett.
Noir looked over to the other side of the room and saw an empty bed. She quickly sat up and looked again. The brunette let out a hiss of frustration. She warned the girl that if she set one foot past the line, she was out. Noir got up out of bed and quickly threw on some decent clothing. She hastily slipped on her boots, grabbed her wand, and headed out the door. Quietly, she moved out of the common room. Not long after, she heard a crashing sound come from the dungeons. She rushed over to the source of the sound but found nothing. It was most likely Alexis. Most people didn't venture down into the dungeons at night unless they were in Sournois. The reason was probably due to the fact that the dorms were near the dungeons and it was an easy walk. Noir pulled out her wand. "Lumos," she whispered, not wishing to be heard.
She was a prefect. It would be bad for her if she got caught. She heard the faint sound of a footstep. It was in the direction of the catacombs. Noir lifted her wand higher so it could light the way. When she caught Alexis, the girl was definitely as good as dead. She'd be getting an earful from Noir. It was a fine example, wasn't it? She wondered what the younger kids would do if they heard of this. She just hoped that the children would be smarter than to follow in Alexis's footsteps. It seemed as if the whole world went darker when she entered the catacombs. She raised her wand a little higher. "Alexis, come out," she whispered. It was a vain attempt at finding the girl. There was no way that she could hear her. The catacombs were huge so it would take a long time to find her roommate. She wanted Alexis to disappear but not like this. She would probably get a bad reputation for not warning Alexis not to leave after curfew. Noir took a deep breath. She had to stay calm so she would have a clear mind to give Alexis a lecture.
As far as she could see, the catacombs were a dark place. There were rumors that there were corpses lying there. It only proved to be true when her foot collided with something hard. She stooped down to get a good look at it before jumping back. It was a skull. Noir continued to move on, a little spooked by the skull. Who knew what dark thing lied beyond the catacombs? She just hoped that they wouldn't find her first. Noir's grip on her wand tightened. She had to be careful not to lose it since there was no way back up without it. Even if there was sunlight, it wouldn't reach the catacombs. The place probably laid miles underneath the palace. Suddenly, she heard another noise. Noir lifted up the wand in her hand. She saw a flash of red. It was Alexis! Noir rushed over, aware of the loudness of her boots clacking against the stone underneath. "Alexis, what in Merlin's name are you doing here?" she hissed, her voice showing evidence of her anger. OUTFIT HERE TAGGED ALEXIS NOTES I HOPE THIS IS FINETEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! Alexis woke up shivering. Why did Sournois always have to be so cold? Sometimes she wished it lied in the towers. Cossu and Rouerie did. How unfair it was. Alexis sat up in her and looked around her dormitory. Her two roommates, Rose and Noir were still asleep in their beds. It was now 1:00 A.M.
Alexis stood up and slipped on her red slippers. She headed out of the dorm and into the common room. Alexis sat on the armchair closest to the fire in the corner. That fire really had no effect on the temperature of the room. It was always way to cold. Alexis was startled when she heard footsteps approaching. They were coming from the dorms.
Alexis decided to hurry and go to the catacombs. Students rarely went there. Perhaps this would be a fun experience. Alexis tiptoed into the dark large room, when she felt something on her foot. She looked down to see a skull under her foot. How did that get there!? Beauxbatons these days. Letting innocent students out past curfew step on a skull.
When Alexis sat down in a corner, she heard a voice. "Alexis, what in Merlin's name are you doing here?" The voice hissed. Alexis looked up to see Noir Beaumont staring down at her.
Alexis crossed her arms. "Waiting for you to leave" she said.

PHANTOM SHADOWS ON THE FLOOR She was beginning to regret her choice of going after Alexis but she unfortunately, had a sense of duty. As much as she didn't like the girl, she didn't want to see her decaying corpse among the numerous amounts lying in the catacombs. She ran one free gloved hand through her hair. She was also regretting not dressing warmer. The place was freezing. The Sournois chambers were bad enough with their level but the catacombs were worse. They were literally miles underneath the ground. Another bad thing that would happen would be if she got blamed for the whole incident. Someone would probably say that she was a careless person for allowing a roommate to venture into the catacombs. It wasn't her fault that the girl was a complete fool. The redhead made terrible choices and annoyed the wrong people. She also wasn't the brightest person in the world. Noir glanced at the walls around her. She was half tempted to take one of the skulls lodged there and chuck it down the path to see if it would hit Alexis. She took a deep breath. First, she would find her then give her a scolding. It'd be dirty work to injure her. She was a prefect after all.
More footsteps sounded from deeper in the catacombs. Noir ventured down further. By this time, she didn't care much about making any sounds. She was quite sure that no one was going to come down to the catacombs at this time. She was still very much aware of each noise that sounded in the catacombs. Minutes seemed to pass by without any sign of the redhead. Noir raised her wand higher, letting the light shine through the darkness. This was definitely not how she imagined her night to be like. She was supposed to wrapped in her blankets, fast asleep. No, the pesky redhead had to go looking for some trouble. The only good thing that came out of her nighttime exploration was that she wouldn't have to return to her nightmare. On most nights, she was able to fall asleep without any dreams. Some days, her nights were riddled with the cursed fire that destroyed her family. She shook her head. She had to focus on the task at hand. Instead, she turned her attention to what she would do once she found Alexis. First, she would drag her out by force because she was sure that the redhead wouldn't take too well with leaving with Noir. After they were safely back in their dorms, she would give her a lecture that would she would always remember. She didn't care if Scarlett woke up too. That was something that she was willing to risk. She was quite sure that her friend would want to have a few words with Alexis too.
The light seemed to catch on something red. It was Alexis. "Nox," she whispered, pocketing her wand. She looked down at Alexis with her hands on her hips. "This is what I get for walking through the catacombs to look for you?" she asked. "You wouldn't have cared if you turned into just another one of these rotting corpses?" she countered, picking up one of the many skulls that littered the ground to emphasize her point. She shrugged her shoulders. "I didn't want to come down here anyway but I probably would have been blamed for not stopping you from going down here," she drawled out. She threw the skull down, waiting for Alexis's next response. OUTFIT HERE TAGGED ALEXIS NOTES N/ATEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! OF CAUTIO 2.0

"Nox," someone had whispered. Alexis turned around. To her disappointment, Noir was still there. At least now there was no light. Alexis had no interest in lokking at Noir's face. "This is what I get for walking through the catacombs to look for you?" Noir asked. "You wouldn't have cared if you turned into just another one of these rotting corpses?" she countered, picking up a skull.
"I didn't want to come down here anyway, but I probably would have been blamed for not stopping you from going down here," she drawled out. This was going to take a while. She threw the skull down, startling Alexis. "I still don't see why you just had to come down here right now. Professors don't get very happy when their perfect little prefects break the rules" Alexis warned the girl.
"And I could easily tell them that you brought me down here" she threatened. A professor would definitely bust Noir, if she was caught. But Alexis was hoing to wait to tell. Only when it was absolutely necessary. Alexis sat on the floor and reached into her pocket. She pulled out her wand and pointed it at Noir. "Skidattle" she said.

PHANTOM SHADOWS ON THE FLOOR Unexpectedly, Noir laughed at Alexis's empty threats. She really could not believe that Alexis would actually believe that she was scared. There was only one word that could describe Alexis Jacqueline Janes at that moment and it was stupid. She prided herself in being a person who rarely showed her true emotions. Happiness was something that she allowed to be seen but fear was not one of them. Then again, she wasn't even afraid. Barely anything scared her anymore. She was quite sure that almost dying in a burning house was the scariest thing that could happen to her. Fire still unnerved her but she could mask the feeling pretty well. Her mother didn't give her lessons on how to be a proper pureblood lady. She stared down into the darkness. She wondered how Alexis was picturing her at that moment. Perhaps, the redhead thought that she was practically quaking with fear. Fat chance. Not even an eleven-year-old would be scared of the threats. It was a pathetic attempt, really. She had to give it to the girl. Alexis seemed to be a hopeful one. Maybe, someday her hopes would come true but this was not one of those days. No, she was not letting Alexis get the better of her.
She was a Beaumont not a Janes, whatever so-called "important" family that was. Noir pulled out her wand. "Lumos," she recited, the tip of her wand lighting up. She pointed it directly at Alexis, letting the light shine in the girl's face. She smirked at the girl's little threat. No professor was going to believe Alexis over her. The redhead seemed to have garnered up a reputation for making some trouble. The troubles weren't anything serious. It was mostly some trash about how the school wasn't "pure" enough for her. Noir was sure that Alexis would easily fit in with the Slytherin girls. She had played the part of haughty heiress in front of them. One of the reasons was to make her seem too unapproachable to them. Her only friend had to be Scarlett. She was the only girl who didn't give a thought to blood purity. It was ridiculous to care about blood. Hadn't that big Wizarding war in England proved that? She had been born in the midst of it but her family was pretty much safe in France. The Death Eaters wouldn't try anything on her family. They were purebloods and the Death Eaters wouldn't dare lay a hand on them.
"Are you sure the professors would believe you?" she asked. "Try it. I'm sure they would believe the girl who goes around harassing people just because of their blood statuses," she countered, her lips raising in her signature smirk. It helped that one of the professors was her godmother. Noir knew that Professor Smith would vouch for her. She raised an eyebrow as Alexis pointed her wand at her. "I refuse and brandishing your wand won't scare me," she answered strongly. "If you don't lower your wand, I'll be forced to disarm you," she remarked, tilting her head to the side. Noir raised her wand up until it was level with Alexis's. She was confident in dueling skills. Hogwarts was filled with clubs and activities so she had taken care to join some. She had been a member of the duelling and charms clubs. Not to mention the fact that her family library was filled with spell books. The spells contained in the book were of a sort that no person would ever imagine. She had a good memory so she could probably recall some of the spells in the books. Still, she made not that when she went back to England for a vacation that she would go around Knockturn Alley for some books. OUTFIT HERE TAGGED ALEXIS NOTES N/ATEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! Alexis was not pleased when the girl laughed. What had she done that was so funny? Nothing! Or so she thought. Perhaps she was funny. But that was a question for later. "Lumos" Noir had recited, the tip of her wand glowing in Alexis's face. "Are you sure the professors would believe you?" she asked. Alexis nodded her head. Of course they would! Why not? She was perfectly believable.
Apparently Noir thought differently, because next she said "Try it. I'm sure they would believe the girl who goes around harassing people just because of their blood statuses". Her lips were now raising in her signature smirk. Alexis hated that smirk. She then remembered something. Noir's godmother was a professor! But of course, that was one professor.
"I refuse and brandishing your wand won't scare me," Noir answered strongly. "If you don't lower your wand, I'll be forced to duel you," she added, tilting her head to the side. Noir then raised her wand. Okay, then. Dueling was the best thing Alexis was good at. She could often beat her neighbors back at home. Noir would surely be easy. "Shall we?" She asked Noir as she got her wand in position.

PHANTOM SHADOWS ON THE FLOOR Noir was hit with the urge to laugh. She had already done so but this time the need was a lot stronger. Alexis actually thought that the teachers would believe her over Noir. That was just golden. She wasn't sure if the girl had a brain. It was going to be a prefect's word against a simple student who was known for causing trouble. Looking from that point of view, it would be more probable if they chose Noir's words. She tilted her head to the side in that habit of hers. She shined the light directly into Alexis's eyes. "You know, it's kind of sweet that you think that the professors would believe you," she said, her voice taking a sickeningly sweet tone. She shrugged her shoulders. "If you wish to try it, be my guest," she told the redhead in a patronizing tone. That would certainly be a scene to behold. She was willing to risk a few points. It was a small sacrifice so Alexis could get into some trouble. After all, Noir wasn't the one at fault.
She was merely the person who came to guide the redhead back to her room. Sure, she'd probably get a few points taken from her for putting herself into danger to identify the noises that she heard but she'd be forgiven in the end for finding Alexis. Now, the only thing she needed to do was bring back the pesky girl without any bumps or scrapes. If Alexis lied then there was always a Pensieve. Overall, she had a pretty tight alibi. It would be amusing to see if Alexis could figure all of this out before she told a professor. If not, then she'd get to watch as the girl fumbled around with her story. Either way, it would make an interesting scene. Noir had always been a clever person who thought ahead. Otherwise, a person may just run into their own demise.
Watching as Alexis held up her wand, Noir smirked. So, she was] serious. Should she duel her or not? That was the question. She settled on the decision to disarm her. It was the quickest and simplest decision. No harm would come to either one of them. Now came the question about protocols. It was well-known that one should bow before their opponent before dueling. She glanced at her surroundings. The catacomb that they were in was wide enough. The only thing that she was hesitant about is if Alexis would bow before beginning the duel or cheat and fire a spell before doing so. Bowing would be proper. Noir was a pureblood and had no desire for forgetting her upbringing. Yet, there were ways around that. They didn't need to bow properly. Bending their heads would suffice. Noir shrugged again as her eyes went back to Alexis. "If you wish," she said, feigning a tired tone. She held up her finger in a sign to wait. "I believe that you were taught the proper rules of dueling," she remarked. "You are a pureblood," Noir pointed out. "First, we bow to each other," she reminded, bowing her head slightly. She waited as the other girl did so too. OUTFIT HERE TAGGED ALEXIS NOTES N/ATEMPLATE BY WE WERE INFINITE ! OF CAUTIO 2.0
