[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true]Swatting away another oddly angled branch Tinley stomped through the wooded area. The sun was shining bright and yellow above, signaling the approaching late morning. Having risen only an hour ago she should have been more tired than she actually was. In truth she was actually extremely awake. The excitement had built up during the night and now it was threatening to burst out. Stopping at the top of the hill Tinley took a small breath of air, loving the feel of a slightly cold summer day. The feeling always brought her a sense of calm. Taking out her copy of their scavenger hunt list she clicked her tongue and read over it again.
Deciding it wouldn't hurt to start looking she bent down and began searching all the bushes she could. Everything else on their list certainly required more than one person so she set about looking for the most easiest thing. It didn't take more than 25 minutes either. As soon as she delved deeper into the area a large fluxeed sat sprouting from the soil. Carefully, she extracted it from the soft earth and tucked it safely away into her bag. "That's one found." She said happily, crossing it off the list. After folding the list up and sliding it into her front pocket, Tinley figured she better go and find her partner, whoever that was. His name was Nick Walker but she had never heard, met, or seen him meaning everything was meant to be a total surprise on this trip.
Jogging the rest of the way, Tinley hesitated as she neared the boys tents. Other people were already roaming around the encampment getting to know each other or studying their lists. She easily spotted the second tent in the clearing and sped up her pace. Stopping in front of the designated structure she cleared her throat and called out, "Hello?" |

Nick hadn't really wanted to get up. He really, really didn't. In fact, he wanted to stay in bed all day long and really enjoy himself there. For whatever reason, the day wasn't too fond of this idea and as the sunlight began to slither in through the light canvas walls of the tent, he was stirred conscious by the tickles it sent over his delicate eye lids. He groggily opened his eyes and rubbed away any gunk that had found its way there over the night, and sat up. The boys, he noticed, were in the same predicament as himself. He slowly wandered over to his bag where he found a fresh shirt to toss onto his bare chest, but instead flung it over his shoulders. It was hot, so he didn't quite feel the need to dress himself right away. Instead, he pulled on a pair of cargo shorts and ran a hand through his hair.
He yawned as he left the tent, toothbrush and paste in hand, and headed towards the tent set up for washing oneself. He vigorously brushed his teeth and ran his hands through his messed up bed-head once more before tossing some water on his face, waking him fully, and returning to the tent. By this point, he was the only one left (and assumed that the boys had found something better to do and what not) before he remembered that darned scavenger hunt. He had asked a few people who the heck Tinley Labonte was since he was still too new and knew absolutely no one at the school. They directed him to a feisty red head who, he figured, would probably try and come find him first. He sighed and stretched his arms, deciding perhaps to find something to eat. Couldn't go scavenging on an empty stomach, could he?
Rumaging through his bag though, he grabbed the folded scavenger hunt list and stuffed it in between his lips as he exited the tent trying to put on his shirt. But just as his vision was stunted, he walked straight into something in front of him. He froze, finished putting his shirt on and spotted a red who had just spoken a questionable greeting in the direction of his tent. He blinked a few times, regaining his composure before clearing his throat. "Am I right in assuming you're the Miss Tinley Labonte?" he asked curiously, "Sorry about that, by the way," he added, speaking of his barreling into her, "I'm not exactly at my best in the morning." he chuckled and extended his hand. "I'm Nick, which would mean we'll be competing in the Scavenger hunt together!"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] "What?" was all that could come out of her mouth before she collided with someone much taller than her. Rubbing the side of her face she looked up and into the face of her partner. "Nick Walker?" She questioned, still reeling from their collision. Almost immediately after he explained himself she smiled and offered her hand. "You would be correct. I'm Tinley, nice to meet you. Don't worry about that, I don't think anyone is graceful at this time in the morning." Chuckling she shook his hand before letting her arm drop to her side. So this was the mysterious person. She decided then and there that he did not look like someone that would strangle her. Maybe he just needed time to hear her stories though...Nonetheless she greeted him like she would any friend.
"I'm guessing that since you've obviously woken up only a while ago you might want to eat first. Mind if I join you?" That was another surprising thing about the day. Tinley had yet to eat which most people knew was one of her favorite past times. Holding out her arm she bid they walk towards the large tent together. Students filed in and out, some holding their breakfast still while others sat huddled with their friends of partners.
"Should be fun today, huh?" Tinley asked, referring to the hunt. "Oh! Before I forget, I've found one of the items already." She patted the side of her bag where the small plant sat. "I think fluxweed is the easiest thing on our list really. I figured that the others would require more than just one person." Hiking her bag further up her shoulders as they entered the large tent. "Did you have an idea where you'd like to start first?" She asked him. |
