Hyo Joon didn’t have any prefect duties to do that night, but he was still awake and for some reason unable to sleep. His tummy get growling loudly and he was afraid that he would wake up his dorm mate sooner than later. “Unbelievable…” He mumbled quietly to himself before removing the covers and getting up from his comfortable warm bed. He knew he should find something to eat before he would be able to get any sleep, so he had just decided to give up and go down to the kitchens. After dressing up he once more checked whether he had already woken up his dorm mate, but luckily (or maybe he secretly thought it was unfortunate, because wandering around school late at night with a friend did seem like a fun idea) the other male was still asleep, so Hyo just let out a heavy sigh and left the dorms behind him. The common room was empty as well which didn’t surprise him at all; it was past midnight already anyway.
The corridors were dark and quiet as well and only shadows seemed to be alive at that hour. None of the paintings were moving as they all seemed to be sleeping as well. Prefects were nowhere to be seen, but for sure they were wandering somewhere around the school. Hopefully no one would be at the kitchens though, because although he was a prefect (I love you Word for suggesting the word perfect here ♥, ‘cause Hyo really is that, LMAO) it wasn’t his turn to have a night shift, so he kind of wasn’t allowed to go anywhere from the common room either. Oh well… He could always just say he thought he heard someone leave the common room without permission or something and tried to follow them, but couldn’t find them anymore. Or he could just say that he thought he did have a night shift. He would be fine.
After reaching the kitchen’s painting and tickling the carrot he stepped inside quietly, first just taking a peek though, but the place was completely dead. Not a single house-elf was around either. Oh well, guess he should just help himself then. But what should he eat? He started to search through all the closets to see what he could find. After searching for a moment he came across a closet that was filled with ice cream which were kept cold buy some kind of spell he figured. He took one of the boxes (chocolate chip ice cream) with him before trying to find a spoon which he eventually did, so with a smile upon his face he lifted himself easily to sit on top of one of the desks and started eating the ice cream, obviously pleased with himself at the moment. Slightly he swung his legs that were hanging over the edge of the desk while happily emptying the box of ice cream. Yum! It probably wouldn’t take away his hunger completely though… But it would do for now. notes: open for any & all [:

WHEN ALL THE SHADOWS ALMOST KILLED YOUR LIGHT Rowan almost always had problems with falling asleep at night. She couldn't really discern what it was that kept her tossing and turning, only that it was nearly a nightly thing. Once, her sister Melanie had suggested that it was because Rowan was so high-strung she didn't know how to relax properly. At the time Rowan had scoffed and claimed she knew exactly how to fall asleep so that couldn't possibly be true but more and more often had she begun to consider it. Was she really so tense she didn't know how to sleep? This was how her nightly pity parties usually begun, with her considering her sister's suggestion about why she couldn't sleep. Then, gradually, it would gain momentum until either she cried herself to sleep or she was too exhausted to think about more hateful things about her. Tonight was shaping up to be exactly like every other night until suddenly her thoughts were inturrupted by the sound of her stomach growling. Great, the last thing she needed.
She knew exactly why she was hungry, too. She had had so much homework that night that she'd begun working as soon as she got back to her dorm and kept working right through dinner. At first she tried to ignore the pain in her stomach and sounds it was emitting until it all became too much and she gave up on all pretenses of sleep. Sighing audibly she rolled over and crawled out of bed, groping around in the dark for clothing. There was no way she would be able sleep like this and, as she had classes in the morning and therefore needed sleep if she was to deal with all of that. Rowan grabbed the first things her hands found and put them on, figuring that it was highly unlikely that she would run in to anyone at this time of night in the kitchens or corridors. Of course there was the risk of running in to a prefect on the way to the kitchens but, really, who wouldn't be sympathetic to student experience hunger pains? And if they didn't believe her story she would simply ask them to wait a minute so they could hear the evidence themselves.
Being careful not to wake her cat, Amelia, nor any of her roommates, she exited the dorm and then, just as quietly, the Sournois common room. There had been a few students scattered around the room but she was almost certain none of them would tell on her to either a professor or a prefect - it was the unspoken rule of Sournois. As she walked through the corridors towards the kitchens, she was cautious but not too worried about running in to anyone. However she was proven wrong when she walked in to the kitchens and stopped dead in her tracks. Right there in the kitchens was the exact kind of person she wanted to avoid, a prefect. She cursed silently in her mind at her luck, of course she would run in to a prefect now when she was so close to her goal of food. Glaring at the Cossu prefect she felt her lips purse in irritation as her stomach let out another loud growl of hunger.

Although he was a vampire and his senses were a lot better than normal humans he still hadn’t at all heard someone approaching the kitchens. He had been way too much in his thoughts and enjoying the ice cream that he hadn’t concentrate at all at trying to hear if someone was coming. It was too late to hide now. Perhaps he had kind of heard the steps, but his brains had just chosen to ignore them. He was in luck though, because this young lady wasn’t a prefect which meant that neither of them was allowed to be there, so they couldn’t tell on each other. Oh, but wait… she couldn’t possibly know that he wasn’t on duty that night. Besides the way she froze most likely meant that she knew that he was a prefect and now thought that he was going to take points away and whatnot.
But when they both were quietly staring at each other, suddenly the room was filled with a loud growl.
But no, he wasn’t going to take points away from her house (because he really couldn’t at the moment since he wasn’t allowed to be out either) and he wouldn’t even send her away. Instead he pointed at her with his spoon. “You have been neglecting your tummy? Tsk, tsk. Bad girl.” He shook his head before stuffing another spoon of ice cream into his mouth and calmly just sitting on the desk. “You must keep your tummy happy, ALWAYS. It goes above EVERYTHING in this world. Hurry up and give it something.” He half mumbled as his mouth was filled with cold ice cream. He didn’t know the girl and was pretty sure she wasn’t at least in Cossu, so that would leave Rouerie or Sournois. He truly hoped she would be a Rouerie then, because Sournois students seemed often quite rude and boy did he hate people who were rude to others without a reason (even though he was often rude himself too). “I won’t bite.” He added, hoping that the femme would understand that he wasn’t going to give her a lecture or anything about wandering around the schools at night nor was he going to start talking about the rules and such. Even if he would have been on prefect duty now… well, he still wouldn’t have taken any points away. This was because food was important, wasn’t it? He often snuck out to the kitchens too, not much elsewhere. If there was one thing he understood it was the need of food. So he just gave her a pleasant smirk before stuffing some more ice cream in his mouth.

I WAS THERE WHEN THE RAIN TAPPED HER WAY DOWN YOUR FACE At first, Rowan was frozen in fear of being caught. But then she noticed that the prefect was just as shocked to see another person up at this time of night but it just didn't add up in her mind. If he was on duty, why was in the kitchens eating ice cream? Why did he look as if he'd been the one caught red-handed? Her brow furrowed as she tried to make sense of the entire situation. But before she could, the prefect spoke. She jumped at the sound of his voice, having been too absorbed in her thoughts to be paying attention to him pointing a spoon at her. Watching him eat ice cream and ramble on about the importance of keeping the tummy happy, Rowan was unsure what to do. She didn't have particularly strong social skills on a regular day and usually resorted to projecting her shyness as anger. However, tonight was different. In all honesty, she was just too tired and unaware to muster up the usual anger. And, without her usual shield of seeming perfection, she felt vulnerable and not at all ready to pick yet another fight.
Rowan was spurred in to action when the prefect promised not to bite and her stomach, one again, expressing it's audible displeasure. "Hi, I'm, uhm, Rowan," she muttered lowly, awkwardly shoving her messy hair back. Wow, she was going to have fun whipping that bush in to shape later on. A blush creeped up the back of her neck and coloured the top of her ears red. Merlin, this was exactly why she didn't like people. They made her uncomfortable with their judgement and things. It was just so much easier getting angry than being this fumbling mess of embarrassment. "Would you suppose they have tea and licorice wands?" she asked as she cautiously approached the prefect. "You are, in fact, a prefect, right?" she inquired while jumping on to the desk next to him and pulling her legs up to cross them Indian-style. "Because you look strangely familiar and I'm pretty sure everyone knows all the prefects." She flashed a quick smile at him before biting down on her lip. No matter how hard she used to try, she would never be good at small talk and clearly that hadn't changed over time.

It seemed that the girl had noticed that she had caught him off guard, but she didn’t seem to figure out why he had also startled as well. Phew. She didn’t seem half bad though, so she doubted she would have started a fight about it even if she had guessed what was going on. She was actually really pretty. Like, really really pretty and that always made him feel awkward. Being around pretty girls. Beauxbatons was filled with pretty girls and he had somehow been lucky enough to get a chance to date Alegra, so guess he should have gotten used to it by now, but he really hadn’t. Luckily he was good at hiding his insecurities though and definitely wouldn’t let it show. Often when he tried to hide his real feelings he would just become extremely loud and hyper and act is he was extremely happy and nothing could bring him down. It did seem like the girl was a bit shy and therefore for some reason it made him feel a bit more at ease, because he knew he wasn’t the only one who was still trying to get comfortable. Obviously it was a bit awkward because they had just met for the first time.
Hyo Joon was often very oblivious to things and never cared how the other one looked. They could be wearing their underwear and he wouldn’t care! Well, ok, fine. If a girl came in wearing only her underwear he would pass out, that was for sure. Or just… run. Cover his eyes at the least. Anyway, he did happen to notice her messy hair, but hey, who didn’t have messy hair at this hour of the night? And he was one of those guys who actually liked it when girls had that type of messy hair when they had just woken up. Um, but no, he wouldn’t be mentioning. He better keep his mouth zipped. There were times when he usually accidentally blurted the most inappropriate things.
“Hi, I’m, uhm, Rowan,”
A smile formed upon his lips when he heard her introduce herself which meant that this was going rather well. No running away or telling the prefect to shut up (which did happen every now and then actually). It was sad, really, when people had to defy the orders of a prefect, because the prefects just were doing what they had to do. They were following the rules. But some humans had no respect for each other. This lady though seemed polite and there was nothing better than that. Except food. “Nice to meet you Rowan, I would be Hyo Joon, although just Hyo is enough.” It was somewhat dark in the kitchens, just a few candles lit the room, so he didn’t notice at all how the color of her skin turned a bit red. Well, just her ears and neck though. He watched as the girl approached him, asking about tea and licorice wands, and he couldn’t help but to think how just a few months ago he would have ran away fast if this had happened. That was because he hadn’t trusted his vampire-self all that well yet back then and would have been afraid that he would have attacked the girl. “I bet! The tea is actually in the cabinet right next to you.” This he knew because he often came there to drink tea himself when he couldn’t get any sleep. “And I’m sure I’ve seen licorice wands somewhere too… just a moment ago when I was searching ice cream myself.” He looked thoughtfully around as he tried to remind himself where he had seen them. “You can find pretty much anything in here! Except human body parts, ha!” He smirked slightly before quickly correcting, “Not that you look like a cannibal or anything.” Wow, this was going smoothly, wasn’t it…
He watched the girl sit next to him on the desk, a friendly gesture, and he tilted his head, smirked a bit and pointed his spoon towards the ceiling. “You’re correct, I am one.” And God knows how he got that position with the way he often enjoyed breaking the rules himself. But should he tell her the truth? She didn’t seem trustworthy… maybe. Not that it mattered if she would later turn her back on him and tell everyone that he was there when he wasn’t allowed to, because he could always cover it up somehow. But he let out a sigh, looking a bit unsure while looking down at the ice cream and poking it with the spoon. “In all honesty, I’m not on duty tonight.” Perhaps this would make her feel a bit more relaxed too, although she had moved to sit next to him so that also should mean that she wasn’t exactly afraid of prefects. Oh, but hopefully she didn’t think that he didn’t turn her away just because he was worried for himself getting caught. “Not that I would have taken any points from you and told you to leave even if I was. Being hungry is a serious problem and it needs to be taken care of.” He shrugged, looking all serious for a moment before turning to look at her playfully. “Right?”
And that's when he remembered where he had seen the licorice before. "Ah!" He placed the ice cream next to him on the desk before hopping down himself and walking over to one of the closets and taking a peek inside before seeing a pile of licorice wand boxes. He took one of the boxes, came back to Rowan and offered the box to her before sitting back on his spot on the desk. "There you go, miss."

❋ Rowan took the smile she was given after introducing herself as a positive sign of where the conversation was going and couldn't help but briefly smile herself. It'd been a long time since she'd last really gotten along with someone and hadn't felt like her every move was being watched. She just normally had a very conflicting personality, not particularly enjoying the company of other as it usually brought on the expectations of others and their judgement upon her life. There probably was once a time where Rowan was as blushing and shy as she was now, here in the kitchens, but that time had passed. She'd learned the hard way that life tended to eat people up and chew them out as misshapen forms of who they once were. Tilting her head, she considered the prefect next to her, Hyo Joon apparently. The name was a little strange but that was probably because she'd lived a fairly sheltered life. First, on her family's estate in a small town near Versailles, where she'd lived among the rich, white, and retired wizards of France. Then in the Muggle school she'd gone to before attending Beauxbatons which had be almost catered to the rich white people of France. There had been a few girls of different skin colours with exotic names but, really, she'd never gotten to experience other cultures until coming to Beauxbatons. It was very interesting seeing how people from different sorts of cultures came together.
"It's nice to meet you too," she offered politely, if a little timidly. Although, she was fairly certain she knew him from somewhere. She had, after all, been able to identify him as a prefect. "Although, I've seen you about. Usually around Cossu, my younger sister's in that house. I think that's how I knew you were a prefect." Brushing her hair out with her fingers she thought more thoroughly on the matter as it was one of those things that you just had to solve or it would sit in the back of your mind forever, simply irritating you. Rowan was irritated enough on a good day, she didn't really need and errant thought annoying her further. Such thoughts had distracted her to the extent that she hadn't really been listening to what Hyo Joon had to say about the tea she wanted or the kitchens until suddenly he was talking about cannibals. Furrowing her brow she asked, But what if I am a cannibal?" then grimaced at her bad attempt at a joke. She was hardly the funny one in the Elliot family and her fool attempt at joking with the prefect make it clear that she simply was not practiced enough in delivering jokes. Her brother, Alder, whom was probably the funniest person she had ever met, had once told her the half the job of telling a joke was the set up for it. Then he'd given her a wet willy and run off laughing. That was the general gist of how interactions went with her family.
Rowan nearly laughing and clapped her hands in joy when Hyo Joon confirmed that he was, indeed, a prefect. However she wasn't the kind of person to do that so instead she bobbed her head in assessment and turned to the cupboard next to her to look at the selection of teas. "It's always nice to be right," she commented while her eyes skimmed the multiple containers of tea, looking for one that interested her. Usually she would go for orange pekoe however she was mostly fond of fruity white teas. Over the summer, she and her sister, Balsam, had essentially made it their mission to find the best fruit tea and eventually they gave up and just drank all the tea they could as they'd all been so good and neither could choose just one and, had they been able to, it probably would not have been the same one and just caused a fight. She smiled at the memory, it'd been a good one. "Tsk, breaking the rules? Hardly prefect behavior," she ginned, glancing over her shoulder at him. Her sister Castoraralia had been a prefect, headgirl even, in her day and would have shuddered to just think of another prefect breaking the rules they were trying to enforce. Thinking this only made Rowan more and more fond of the boy.
Rowan jumped down from the desk where she'd been sitting to search for a kettle and water to boil the tea. She tended to use magic to boil the water as she was very finicky about the temperature the tea had to be at before she would drink it and the whole ordeal was just easier that way however, she still needed to put the water in something. Kettles just made the necessary magic easier. "Right, a problem that must be amended with licorice wands," she nodded, grabbing a kettle and bringing it over to a sink to fill with water. "Really, I don't understand why people eat anything else." She said this with in a very serious tone however it was clearly another attempt at humour. Hyo hadn't received her previous jokes very badly and she only hoped it would continue. Telling jokes was fun, she could understand why Alder did it so often. Every time she got a little thrill. She'd just made her way back over to the desk with the kettle and had bent down to grab her wand out of its holder attached to her thigh (which was always problematic when she wore shorts such as the cotton boxers she now wore) when Hyo suddenly leaped up. Following his movements with her eyes, she wondered what he was doing but understood as soon as be brought her the licorice wants she requested. Pleased, Rowan gave him a full smile, teeth and all. She'd already smiled more this night than she had since the term had begun and now Hyo was getting her rarest smile of all.
Taking the box she ripped open the packaging and, with record time, shoved nearly half a licorice wand in to her mouth. She wasn't particularly fond of candy but she loved licorice wands with a passion. "Thank you," she told Hyo around a mouthful of licorice, probably making a really unattractive sight but, right now, she really couldn't bring herself to care. She felt more at ease than she had in a while. Hyo Joon was a pretty cool person and pretty cute as well and he had a way of not seeming to be making opinions of her. Better yet, he didn't deign himself to share his opinions. See, opinions were her nightmares. Having grown up with so many almost-perfect sisters Rowan just could not help but fell insignificant and these feelings were was reassured by the people who compared her to her sisters, the professors told her how her sisters had done better, the people who gossiped about the Elliot family and how they were so talented - oh hello Rowan what do you do again? As if her self-worth could be measured by what she was able to do instead of who she was. So eventually who she was became just as disappointing as what she was able to do. "I think I might just have to shrink you and keep you in my pocket," she informed Hyo Joon as she continued eating, "You make me feel better about people." As she started a new wand, Rowan wondered if she'd come off as joking or if she'd seem crazy and just cringed at what she'd said. She just never could get the whole talking thing right - always saying the wrong things or not enough or, in the case especially, too much.
(I swear I didn't plan on making this so long .-.)
