[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] that pain is just a simple compromise
... Pulling her hair to one side Jae Na sighed lightly in relief. The cool breeze felt nice as the sun beat down openly on her skin. Despite the impending autumn season that heat had been at an all time high lately. The trees, whose leaves hadn't stuck around even with the warm weather, were starting to go bare so she was offered no shade. Pencils sat discarded by her side ranging in dozens of colors. There hadn't been a need for her to bring them after all as she'd stuck to her plain black charcoal pencil as usual. Smoothing out a few of the harsher lines she held the small picture out, looking it over with criticizing eyes. She was far from talented at drawing but after years of practice her ability to draws trees and building had grown.
Setting down her things and wiping her hands she stood, stretching out the aches in her back. Students sat lazily around the courtyard. Laughter and happiness rebounded off what walls were there. Her eyes landed on the lake that glistened under the glare of the sun. Smooth waves glided back and forth on the shore. Her first days at the school had been much more than she'd expected them to be. Honestly, the fact that she was away from her crazy family was enough for her. Grinning happily, Jae Na gathered her things together and dumped it all into her bag. Falling back onto the bench she let out a squeal of excitement. "No annoying siblings and their children. No one to tell me what to do or how to do it. Life is good today." The downside to everything was that she'd yet to really introduce herself to anyone. She had plenty of time of course but there were so many students it was a little intimidating to go up to someone.
Laying her head back she gave the soon-to-be task a shrug. Like all things, she was sure that she would do them eventually. All in do time. Massaging her still aching hand she opened one eye as students filtered in and out, chirping jokes and loud mouth demands to one another. It must be nice, she wondered to herself. |

Following a meager three hours of sleep, Rowan could barely stand to pull herself from bed. She was much too tired for the whole doing things today. Instead, she ran her fingers through her hair, threw on a pair of jeans and a simple light blue button down and laid back on her bed with Amelia. Amelia was a great companion, was always there by her side when she needed her (like now). But Rowan was used to doing things with her day - going out and taking photographs was her usual thing but she also enjoyed wandering and just experiencing the world as it went on around her. She didn't often participate in it but it was, generally, much more exciting that laying in bed was. Which was why she made up her mind to do something. Rolling off her bed, she gently placed Amelia off to the side and straightened out her attire. It was pretty uncommon for Rowan to be wearing jeans and she refused to be caught with cat fur on them. A quick swish of the wand later and she was out her dorm room door, long brown hair swinging behind her. She wasn't sure of what exactly she would do, her camera currently being out of commission. And here was only so many times you could wander the grounds of Beauxbatons without become tired with it all. They were beautiful and grande but after years of seeing them time and time again, she could do for spending her time elsewhere.
Elsewhere, as it turned out to be, was the courtyard. Not only was it outside, where Rowan usually liked to spend her free time, but it wasn't somewhere she went often. For the most part it was full with students. During the warmer months, students were known to spread out in the courtyard with their books, spending the day taking in the rare sunlight and lazily completing their work. As for the cooler months, which they were beginning to get on in to, it was more hustle-and-bustle. Students coming and going from all parts of the castle and grounds and even the shops, passing through the courtyard to greet their friends. But she didn't think it would be too bad today, that there would not be s many people that she would want to leave. It was partially a gut feeling she got but she'd also hear from her sister, Magnolia who had a view of the corner of the courtyard, that it wasn't nearly as busy right now for some odd reason. Probably because all the students were trying to get their fill of exploring in before it became to cold and the class work became too much to allow such fancies. Or at least that was why Rowan spent much of her days exploring - she was never sure when she would get another opportunity to do so.
Coming upon the courtyard, Rowan was pleased to find that there was very few students there, compared to how many there usually was. Laughter filled the air but it wasn't much more than what would be found in a park on a Sunday. It was the perfect early-autumn day and Rowan was glad she'd made the decision to come, especially when she spotted that she wouldn't be the only student keeping to themselves. All throughout the courtyard there were people sitting along doing various things. Some read while others took in the linger warmth of the summer. As for Rowan, she wasn't quite certain what she would be doing as she sat cross-legged upon a bench and brushed out her hair some more, something she usually did when her hands had nothing better to do. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,300,true] that pain is just a simple compromise
... The fact that a person had sat down and had yet to introduce themselves to her took Jae Na by surprise. Sitting there awkwardly she dropped her hands into her lap and crossed one leg over other. There they sat, silently. It was really strange for her seeing as most people would at least offer the other a good morning. Obviously Jae Na could have extended her greetings first but one look at the girl next to her and she thought otherwise. She didn't look mean or anything but she certainly didn't look inviting either. Titling one head to the side, the cossu reached to her side and pulled her book towards her and flipping it open.
Turning her head slightly she gave the brunette a tiny smile before returning to the sketch. Though her hand was still a little sore she didn't want to do anything else and it seemed strange for her to just get up a leave. Plus, she didn't really have a place in mind to go seeing as she'd been there first. If the girl was bothered by her then there was nothing that could be done. Jae wasn't about to give up her spot. Peering out from the corner of her eyes she wondered if the girl next to her was going to do anything besides sit there. Rather than ask her though, Jae Na kept to herself, black pencil gliding over rough parchment as she continued her drawing.
"Hi." she said after a while, not looking up from what she was doing. She said nothing more, offered no other inkling that she was to partake in conversation. Whether or not her bench companion would reciprocate the gesture was up to her. Jae Na would simply keep to what she was doing. She'd offered her polite greeting and figured it would be enough for most people. Her mother would be happy at least and she was safe from being referred to as rude. |

It didn't necessarily occur to Rowan the need to introduce herself when she sat down, not being one to desire engaging in small talk. She had come to the courtyard with the intention of calmly relaxing outside and that was precisely what she was going to do. Brushing her fingers through her hair, she leaned her head back and smiled at the feeling of the sun warming her face. France was hardly the warmest country so Rowan enjoyed the warmth when she could. The brunette would have been happy simply leaving at that but she could sense the unease of the person next to her and glanced over at the girl just as she sent a polite smile. Her lips pulled down in a frown and wondered what was so complicated about desiring silence.
Rowan figured that her point was made when she resumed whatever she was doing. Intrigued, she sat up briefly and glanced at whatever was occupying the other girl's hands. A drawing, or something. Determining that her curiosity was satisfied, she settled back to her original position of head tilted back. However, this time she idly ran her fingers through her hair, tugging out the occasional knot found in her hair. Despite being fairly smooth and straight, it tended to knot easily (a real annoyance while getting ready in the mornings). Rowan was pulled from her calming motions when the silence was broken. Rowan rolled her eyes and sat up yet again and looked at the other girl in disdain. Really? "Hi," she returned curtly. She honestly hoped this conversation wouldn't last too long. (sorry about the delayed and short reply!)
