take me to where you are
The young girl was currently where she often was, haunting the stacks in the library. She walked idly down the aisles, her dark eyes scanning the various titles before her. Maelys was a quiet girl, always feeling more at ease in the company of books. They were straightforward and didn't play games with her mind. In addition, they helped make her feel connected to her mother. The woman had read her bedtimes stories whenever she was home while Maelys was a girl and, considering how rarely she saw her mother, it was these memories she cherished the most. It was the only time she had really spent with the person she admired most. So, she read books. She thirsted for the stories of character spun from the imagination of others, the knowledge of the inner-workings of the world, becoming emotionally connected to someone she could always come back to when she felt lonely. Smiling, her gaze fell upon the exact book she was looking for. One disproving the theory of zombies and any possibility of their existence. Her mother had written about it in her last letter and Mae looked forward to reading and writing a review of it in her next letter. She had read a few of the author's previous works and she had to admit that he had a very distinct voice - something she could admire in a person. Maelys was certainly someone who found no joy in word games, she was of the mind that if you had something to say, just say it and not worry about how it is worded. This trait was one she got from her grandmother, the woman who had really raised her. For, you see, Maelys' mother was a single mother who refused to give up travelling around the world and her research for anything, not even her child. Therefore, Maelys had been left in the care of her Nana.
Maelys climbed up on her tip-toes to snatch the book off the shelf, cursing her short stature as she often did, and grinned when she reached it. Mission accomplished. As she returned to her feet, she held the book close to her chest and felt the thrill she always did when faced with getting to read a new book. There was just an endless amount of possibilities when it came to books and she loved that. Nothing was impossible in books but, ultimately, things usually work out for the best. Happy endings were Maelys' favourite as she figured there was plenty of sadness in the world already, why have it in a fictional world as well. With her latest read in hand, she then went on the hunt for an armchair to settle into. Frequenting the library as often as she did, Maelys liked to change things up by reading in a different chair every time. It was a little lame but that was how Mae was, she found joy in the little things. She was someone who appreciated things like the gust of wind through a window and, for the most part, was able to see the light in a dark cave. While reading was a sort of an escape for her, it also taught her to not let the small things bother her. She walked carefully through the library, as she always did. While she did not put much though into her movements, it was clear that Mae was comfortable things as she just seemed to flow like water from one step to the next. Someone might say that she had an oblivious sort of grace. Her lips quirked up as she took a step back and glanced down the row of books she had just passed. She thought she'd seen a comfortable-looking love seat and she'd been correct.
Maelys approached the seat with a slight bounce to her step and sat down and let out an ahh of contentment. Comfortable seating was yet another small thing that made her inexplicably happy. Toeing off her sandals, the brunette curled her legs into her body, wrapped her knit cardigan a little tighter around herself, and began reading the book. As she read, her fingers toyed idly with the rip in her jeans (and how had that happened? she'd wondered this morning when she had pulled them on) and her head gradually tilted to the left as it always seemed to. She was just becoming comfortable and absorbed in her book when the sudden sound of footsteps broke her concentration. Tossing her head in the direction of the sound, her eyes brightened in curiosity.
