Sweet, maybe... Passionate, I suppose... But don't ever mistake that for nice.
~~~ The Book Nook was quiet today. No snotty nose kids shopping for school books and misplacing them some where on the shelf. It drove him absolutely bonkers when they did that. Caine was a tidy man. He liked things to be organized, especially his shop! Books were categorized in sections due to content, and then they were alphabetized. Everything had a specific location and Caine preferred to keep it that way. Then there was the other side of his shop that contained supplies for writing like inks, pens or quills, and paper in different forms. These were essential for students. Those picky students that liked to put their fingers all over things and try things out. He cannot account all the times he had to throw quills away or clean an ink mess. Crumpled pieces of good parchment or vellum paper would go to waste. Let's just say that Caine is a little OCD...
But today was very quiet indeed. Not usual since the new term began not too long ago. He expected it to be a rather troublesome, but it was delightfully peaceful. He was able to clean and organize the shop this morning. This meant he could spend the rest of the day looking over a catalog and possibly ordering more books that potential customers would be interested in. Caine could look into a book he's never read and begin. After all, he had plenty on the shelf and has only read about half of all he's got. He was particular interested in the sciences, space and time. One could say he's a bit of a nerd and could ramble a good session about games. Because he grew up as a muggle, Caine was accustomed to video games, comics, and the such.
What he wouldn't give to actually play on his xbox. "That would be something I wouldn't mind having here. All I need to do is hook it up in the backroom," he mused with a cheeky grin. It would kill time when the shop is going slow. But then it would be a hassle if someone were to find out and ask him all these nonsensical questions about the muggle world and what sort of sorcery is his gaming system. "Never-mind. It can stay at home." Yes he wasn't exactly born a wizard, but his parents came to accept that. His teenage years weren't normal when he went to school at Hogwarts, but after he graduated he returned home to Scotland and went to a muggle university. The rest is all mumbo jumbo, but he did lots of traveling before settling here and opening his own book shop.
I don't ever want to let you down, I don't ever want to leave this town Cause after all this city never sleeps at night "Drat the cold!" She cursed under her breath. As beautiful and serene the snow may look, it was terribly cold to her dismay. But she couldn't stay inside the castle much longer or she'd get castle fever. Jillian spent every waking hour of each day for the past month helping the Headmistress and Ruxandra with keeping the school up to date and tidying the castle. It seems that they were having some troubles in the dungeons with pests. Also it was just very untidy with slime and cobwebs. It was all maintenance work, but the job had to get done in some way. Couldn't always put the work on the house elves. They had enough to do with preparing meals, keeping rooms warm, and keeping the castle intact.
But the first time she's able to have some time and fresh air to herself, it snows the night before. A blizzard had came through the night and the the land as far as she could see was blanketed in snow and ice. Yes it was beautiful when she was indoors and looking out from her window, but once she stepped foot outside, all that wonder and sparkle in her eyes faded quickly. It was a quick trudge in the snow from the castle to the Boutiques, the closest area to do a bit of shopping and perhaps stop by the pub for a warm butterbeer....firewhiskey. Say what?! But it didn't surprise her to see that the roads were deserted. The students were smart to stay indoors. Also classes were in session at the time, which gave her plenty of time to spend on her own and uninterrupted by questions and requests from the students.
Jillian quickly entered the first shop she passed by and stomped her boots on the welcome mat. It was quiet and toasty warm inside. The place could do with more lighting, but she wasn't here to judge on looks and hospitality. She brushed the snowflakes off her coat and then slipped it off, hanging both her coat and scarf on a nearby coat rack. She straightened her dark red sweater and patted down her long blonde hair, but that didn't help much with the static. Turning around to get a full view of the shop, her hazel eyes glanced over heaping shelves of books, all neatly stacked and no sign of dust. She hardly expected any shop to be as tidy as this one, especially if it contained all these books. The school's library wasn't even this clean! So she was quite amazed by it's appearance. This shop must be owned by a woman.
~~~ He opted for the comic version and went to the back to go through his own collection and began reading. It brought back childhood memories, most of which he's fond of. He had a normal childhood, except for that one part where he began wizarding school. But he was able to separate his life between the magic and muggle. Most of his friends believed he went away to an all-boy's boarding school. So he had no problems with transitioning between worlds. Besides, all that mattered was getting through school and knowing how to use said magical abilities that could come in handy one day. But personally he liked to do things old fashioned and by hand rather than some flick of a wand. Unless of course it was useful to clean his shop up and arrange everything without having to use a ladder or deal with dust in the air. So much of it accumulates in a week!
When the front door opened, he quickly closed his comic and put it away. Caine cannot have it laying around in case something happened to it in his absence. He heard a person shuffle around and assumed it to be some student coming in to mess around. But as he entered from the back room, he looked at a fine and curvy figure with long blonde locks. She looked to be making herself comfortable already by making a mess on his floor with the snow she trudged in and brushed herself of. He frowned slightly and brought forth a rag to clean the floor with. He didn't want water spots on his floor because it would discolor and make it look hideous. These were nice wooden floor boards that he had done himself thankyouverymuch!
"Ahem," he cleared his throat, standing back up and tucking the rag in his back pocket. "Is there anything I can assist you with ma'am?" He asked just to be courteous Though he could do without helping her if he could help it. But it's really good for business and she looked to be a professor from the school. Now that he was getting a better look at her, he could see that she was actually very attractive and yet so... so... familiar in some way.

I don't ever want to let you down, I don't ever want to leave this town Cause after all this city never sleeps at night Well if no one was going to come out and greet her, then she would invite herself to have a look. After all, The Book Nook looked much small on the outside than the inside. That's the surprising part and it intrigued her very much. The stairs were the main attraction, and she couldn't wait to climb up them and have a look from above. Magic definitely had it's ups in this case and it never ceases to amaze her. She felt like a school girl again, exploring some new territory she has never come across before. She remembered those days when she first attended Hogwarts. Jillian wasn't the shy type and easily made friends back then. She spent most of her days being a social butterfly, but when the opportunity arised to explore the castle and it's grounds, she was up for an adventure!
Of course that was many many years ago and now she sees the same sparkle in her new students when they first arrive. That's what made her job so much better and worth sticking around for. But of course it can wear her down over time. That feeling just wears off in days and when she's alone, it's hard to take all that responsibility to herself. She's just lucky that Ruxandra is around while Olympe is away on business.
It didn't occur to her that she wasn't alone now and turned around to meet the eyes of the owner. So all expectations of seeing a woman and instead she gets a tall thin man who looks like he spends most of his time indoors with his nose behind a book. Typical nerd as a muggle would say, and she would know since she is one. But he looked quite handsome with those black framed glasses and vaguely familiar. But Jillian has met a lot of people in her lifetime so there is no way she would know him. "Hello!" She smiled brightly while turning around. "Oh I'm just here browsing. I don't believe I've really ever had the chance of coming inside here. So what kinds of books do you carry besides school ones?"

~~~ He felt a little shy for some reason, but the feeling wore away quickly. It wasn’t professional to shy away or ignore a promising customer. She looked to be of some importance besides the obvious that she’s an adult. Though the look that she had given him, the surprise across her face, he wondered if she expected someone else. Did he not appear to look like a person who should keep a book shop? Was she expecting some elderly woman or man, ancient with wisdom and wrinkles, to be assisting her around the shop? Caine was very capable of doing his job, which he enjoys most of the time when snotty little brats don’t go messing up the shelves and other merchandise that he has in his shop. She must be judging him! Well Caine could judge her too, if only he knew who she was and what she does around here. He assumed that she was passing through or was a shopkeeper nearby. He doesn’t really associate with all of them. Caine prefers to keep to himself.
But she appeared cheery in her greeting, so he was slightly taken aback. Okay maybe he was just overthinking things and she’s not that bad of a customer. I’ll just forget the look she gave me earlier. Caine was pleased to hear that this was her first visit to his shop. When a new customer comes to his shop, he usually offers a grand tour of his shop. The grand staircase is a personal touch that he added to the shop and it opened more space for people to go up and have a look around at many books. He had a lot to offer his clientele. One must satisfy his or her customers and that meant ordering more books on requests or just getting a hunch that some children will like these books or professors will recommend some reading material.
“Well then I welcome you to The Book Nook. I’m Caine and I have been running this shop for a few years now.” It really has been that long, but it seems like a short time. Caine spends the majority of his day busy and doesn’t realize how fast time just pasts him by. So the years just keep growing while he just keeps adding more grey hair and wrinkles, not really. “I’ve got all kinds of books. Some are on cooking, autobiographies, sports like quidditch, novels….you name it. And whatever you cannot find I’ll be happy to help. If I don’t have it here, then I can order it for you.” He wanted to make sure that he would bait her in so that she’d spend plenty of time looking around and possibly purchasing a book or two or perhaps plenty. “If you like, I can give you a tour. It would make it easier to find your way around for future visits.”
