What the heck was she doing back here?
For two years, Leah Marie Gore had fallen off of the face of the Earth. So much had happened and changed since she had last walked on the grounds of this school. She had left a year ago after her mother passed away of cancer. It was all so sudden and it took her just as quickly as it had come. Leah had originally planned on coming back to Beauxbatons immediately. Her relationship with Rue Ribbery was finally hitting that point where she felt he very well may propose. She had her bags packed up the day of the funeral to go back and never return home. She had planned on maybe moving to Germany with Rue once they had both graduated and gotten careers. However, something happened that night. Something remarkable. She saw her father cry for the first time and deep within her heart, she knew she could not leave him. He needed her now more than ever. His beloved wife of over 20 years was gone. He had no one but his darling daughter to love him.
That was that. Leah moved back to the states with her father for a year. She attempted to go to a normal high school and have normal friends, but it just wasn’t for her. She missed her boyfriend, she missed her friends in France, and she missed doing magic. So she bid her father adieu and took the first flight back to France she could manage. She had written to Rue to inform him of her return…to tell him that she still loved him and, if he could find it in his heart to forgive her for having left so abruptly and for so long, that they may continue on as if nothing had ever happened. He did not write back…
So here she was, wandering the grounds of Beauxbatons alone. She had wanted to go in search for Rue, but according to the students, he hadn’t been seen in weeks. Leah looked around at the familiar sights and inhaled deeply. Beauxbatons hadn’t changed in the slightest. Of course, there were new and unfamiliar faces; over two classes had recently joined the school of magic. She wrapped her cream colored sweater a little more tightly around her thing frame. It was winter in France right now. The first snow had not yet fallen, but there was a chill in the air. It was a beautiful day so far; only a few clouds spotted the sky. Christmas would be here soon and it would be the first away from her family in a long while. What reason did she have to go home now? What did she even have to look forward to anymore?
Leah sat down on the cool grass, crossing her legs in front of her and staring out into the distance. This was going to be a long year if she didn’t meet new people…or connect with the old ones.

[atrb=border, 0, true][atrb=style, line-height:80%;][atrb=style, width:350px; padding:10px; background:#ffffff;] THIS YEAR TO SAVE ME FROM TEARS, I'LL GIVE IT TO SOMEONE Kabes ran a hand over her shiny gold shirt, laughing as some of the threads got caught in her fingers. She tugged them out and flattened her shirt again. She hadn't worn the specific top of what seemed like forever because she had kept it at the bottom of her trunk to save for when the holidays came around again. It was a gold top with a peter pan collar, what else could say holidays except for a holiday sweater (which was draped not so lovingly over her desk chair)? Of course, the weather was beginning to get more and more chilly, but it wasn't quite time for her to start wearing gloves. Kabes decided to make the most of the last few days of warmth (a relative term since it was starting to get more frosty) and decided to pop on outside to check out the weather situation. She pulled on her boots over her jeans and flattened those out as well. Making sure she had her wand, she tucked it (tip down) into the side of her left boot and stuffed her gloves and scarf into her bag. Among other things she stuffed her wallet in there just in case need be she had to head down to village. On her way down the stairs, she made a mental checklist of everyone on her Christmas list, making sure she hadn't forgotten anyone on there. Thankfully, she had everyone she could remember at the moment who was around at the school (and Lily, who was her closest friend of all, who had gone off somewhere). Her brothers were all accounted for, and she knew that Lysander couldn't make the trek alone, so she had sent off a couple of the school owls carrying the packages off to her family's home a little further south near Marseilles. As she walked down the stairs, the beautiful ice ornaments hanging on the massive Christmas tree down in the great hall all glittered their welcome to her, and little fairies darted around carrying everything from fake snow, holly, pieces of chocolates, and even mistletoe (getting people to kiss was always a bit of holiday spirit around these parts, Kabes had discovered). She giggled when she spotted two awkward first years who were holding hands get caught by a fairy carrying the "dreaded mistletoe" and laughed even more when they blushed. It was adorable and Kabes wished that she could remember the feeling of awkward embarrassment when that happened. Perhaps it would happen to her and Ivanov, although, she had never been embarrassed about their PDA situation since it was mostly under control and never happened. Continuing her cheerful, holiday-go-lucky attitude, she stepped out into the cold and saw even more students who seemed to be taking advantage of the day as she was. Most stuck around the palace where the gardens had been transformed into something beautiful, the roses being preserved in crystals that appeared almost ice like... she could only imagine how many couples wanted to wander in there. She smiled at seeing the trees, some of which had lights strung about them. She herself wanted to take a look at the lake, which she knew wasn't frozen over. Perhaps it would freeze in the next little while, her desire to go ice skating was overwhelming and she absolutely couldn't wait. As she padded her way down toward the lake, she spotted no other students around, to her surprise. Perhaps they were all at Moonstone bridge, or even wandering down to the village since it was such a beautiful weekend day so close to Christmas. As she drew even nearer, she spotted one lone figure sitting by themselves. Dark hair was the first thing she noticed and as she approached, there was something oddly familiar about this person. Kabes was soon right behind them and stood there for a moment or two, teetering back and forth on her heels before she chirped up, "Hi!" when the girl turned around, Kabes smiled, "Oh, Leah! I haven't seen you in forever! Where have you been? Were you away? I hope everything's OK at home. Ohmygoodness, I don't think we spoke much, and I don't even know if you remember me but ohmygosh, it's been forever." Her mouth ran a mile a minute, her cheeks slowly getting a pinkish colour. She stopped for a moment to catch her breath before flinging her arms around the girl's torso and adding, "Oh, welcome back!"

Leah wondered when the hell her life had decided that it was time for so much to change. She had been so comfortable with the way things were. She was finally on the mend with her parents after they had been so mad at her for marrying so young. Her parents didn’t even show up to her wedding with Daniel. They didn’t even send a card…they were so mad and disappointed in their daughter. It wasn’t like Daniel was a bad person—I mean he was a vampire, but he’d never hurt her. He had even refused to change Leah until she was 18 and absolutely sure that being a vampire was what she had wanted. He treated her like a princess and she loved him with her entire being.
Then life was like “NOPE! YOU CAN’T BE HAPPY, LEAH!” and a pack of werewolves killed her husband while he was on a hunt. She still remembered receiving the news and feeling a kind of numbness run through her body that she had never felt before. That was when Rue Ribbery showed up in her life. He completely brought life back into the little Muggle girl. He had made her feel a love that, she regretted to say, she had never felt with Daniel. Rue was the perfect gentlemen….she had even gone with him to Germany during break one year to see where he lived. That year she had spent with Rue had been the best in her life and she never thought it could be possible that all of it could be ruined. She wanted to marry him…
Then life once again slapped her in the face by diagnosing her mother with cancer. Leah had to leave her life at Beauxbatons behind her, including her boyfriend, to care for her mother. Within the month, her mother had passed. Then her father needed her and, before she knew it, a year had passed without her even talking to Rue. She had finally returned and she was happy thinking that maybe she and Rue could finally move on from everything and possibly marry. And there was life again, taking Rue away from Leah too and not letting anyone know where he was.
Leah wondered if maybe she should write to him, reach out to him. All she wanted to do was run to him and tell him that she was sorry for leaving and not writing. She knew he would understand, but she just wanted to know that he still wanted things to work between them. Damn, Leah hadn’t had to worry about boy problems since before Daniel had shown up. She felt kind of weird, sitting here and obsessed over a boy. But she did want to see Rue and she did want things to just continue on like she had never left last year so abruptly. She missed her boyfriend and she missed the wonder of what may be coming for their future…
Hi!
She had been so deep in thought that the squeak of a female’s voice left her startled. She turned around slowly, noticing Kabriel Lilly, a good friend of hers from back when she was here for good. At least life didn’t feel the need to change everything on her. Kabes through her arms around Leah’s tiny little torso, and Leah let out a laugh. Kabriel never could slow down her talking. ”Of course I remember you,” Leah said with a smile. ”I’d say I’m glad to be back if it wasn’t for the fact so much has changed” she added with a sigh. ”How have things been, Kabes? It’s been a year since I’ve seen you last.”

Jeebus, where have I been? Like... stuck in my head? It feels like it's been LONGER! I missed you!" |
Kabes squealed excitedly, clapping her hands together as she got back her balance and settled down on the grass beside Leah. The girl hadn't seen Leah since way back when, before many people had to take time off for personal reasons. It was all such a sad time, she decided, having family members pass away, or having friends disappear for no reason. Kabes was glad a lot of that was coming to an end. She beamed at the idea of all of her friends returning to Beauxbatons. Many of them already were, she knew, and she couldn't have been more happy than she was now. These friends of hers really were close to her heart and she was grateful to know that they still remembered her when they returned. Many of them left shortly after her arrival at the school in the first place, and when she left... well, that had been because her mother had adopted a few farm animals and needed a little help getting them ready for the harvest season. Of course, since most of her brothers were away and doing things with their lives, Kabes had volunteered her time and hadn't stayed too long. Maybe a month or so, and then she had returned to the school. She knew what Leah meant - having everything at Beauxbatons change so much. Even during the span of a month, it seemed like lots had changed. Lily and Otis, for instance, had grown even closer if that were possible, and many of her other friends had also departed - either for an extended break, or problems of their own. Looking back, she realized she missed many of the faces who had made her smile brighter than the sun. Like Donnie Malone... she missed him so much, it killed her a little bit. He was one of her best friends and she was going to miss spending time with him... but some people had places to be and things to do. Kabes, at the moment, had everything conveniently placed around her back at school. She tucked some hair behind her ears, "Well... I'd like to think not much changes, but of course... I'm not often right about these things!" she laughed, "I'm pretty off actually... probably. I think lots has... but things are changing again! For the better, I think." she nodded happily, glancing over at the Lake and smiling at the reflection of the clouds as they floated wordlessly through the sky. They looked like cotton candy and everything just seemed so hunky-dory up there. Kabes was jealous of the birds now, being able to fly up so high in that heavenly world that was hiding above the clouds. She imagined there to be a whole new world of creatures and beauties... not to mention, loads of cotton candy. Unlike her little girl dreams though, note everything was pink. But there was definitely magic. The young girl hugged her coat around her and then remembered her bag. "I have sweets!" she declared quickly and happily, "Look!" she pulled out a bag of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and grinned, "Want one?" she opened it up and pulled out a bright green one. She tossed it in her mouth and immediately winced as it was sour apple. "Oh, ouch! This is really really sour!" when the taste disappeared, she smiled cheerfully and shook the contents of the bag around, picking out a pink one. Those were the sneaky ones... either cinnamon or strawberry... or even fruit punch! It was always a mystery and she always tended to mess up which one she wanted. Well, she was going to take a risk this time! She tossed it in her mouth and began to chew, realizing with a cheerful smile that it was strawberry. "So, how've things been with you? You've gotten more beautiful, if that were possible, by the way." she nodded. With Kabriel, saying things that seemed so cheesy and clichéd just sort of came out, and she tended to say those things with a straight face as to not confused the hell out of people. "But GAH! I'm just so happy you're back!" she shook with glee and clapped her hands together again, some beans slipping out of the bag as she did so.[/div] IT'S BEEN SAID MANY TIMES, MANY WAYS || LEAH
